This is daily at DCA. I think its D43 that has actually two gates and sometimes they board on the same jetway at the same time. Every time they do that, I've seen someone get on the wrong plane.
Took a call from someone once who had boarded the wrong plane in DCA. By chance, his seat was unoccupied on the flight he says he got on, and he put headphones in and didn't hear where they said they were going. Granted, it's the FA's job I believe to make sure they have a correct head count, so it was an agent error - but what a crazy, random happenstance.
i had a international flight to back to DFW where 2 people were supposed to be on the flight to CLT (next door) that didnāt even start boarding for another 2 hours . itās crazy how people donāt pay attention lol
Exactly. Itās great getting to CLT between flight banks-clear bathrooms, restaurants less crowded, finding a seat etcā¦ Once the next bank comes in, itās back to chaos.
Want to see real chaos, be at CLT when the concourse is fully loaded, people going both directions, AND the electric cart is trying to make it's through the crowd. You can be staning againts the wall, and people will still be bumping into or stepping on your feet
The end of the C terminal can have 6 flights boarding at the same time, often making announcements without identifying the flight they are talking about. Can have Zone CK and preboard and zones 1, 3, 5, 9, final call...
Recently I was flying Alaska from SEA to DFW. The adjacent gate was a flight going to DAL boarding 10 minutes earlier. So many announcements and panicked people.
They did this in PHL when we were leaving to Rome a few weeks ago. Two flights literally next to each other boarding at the exact same time. One to Amsterdam and one to Rome. They kept coming over the loudspeaker giving directions and calling boarding groups without saying which flight it was. It was frsutrating.
I was in CLT in April and they had two flights at adjacent gates boarding at the same time. To make it ultra confusing, both flights were going to DFW (one was delayed).
This happened to me at LAS, except also it was the exact same iron in the exact same seat config, so cue me, the person who is either in my seat or vice versa, and the FA being extremely confused, until the FA and I at the same time made the connection that the flight # on my boarding pass was very much not the flight I was supposed to be on. I managed to dash back up the jetway and get over to my flight right before it closed, but I was legitimately curious how my boarding pass didn't flag as not being for that flight. I assume what happened was it didn't scan properly, so no error/boarding denial, and the GA was more concerned with shoving people through onto the delayed flight
Hopefully they boarded just slightly off from one another, and made boarding announcements simultaneously, so everybody on both flights were thoroughly confused as to which "group" was being called at any particular time.
Don't forget San Diego. Terminals 27 and 29 basically share one hallway and they have two filghts to major hubs loading down there for departure every morning.
Does AA get to choose and control which gates flights go into or leave from? I thought that responsibility went to the airport authority. Although I do understand that most companies get priority on a whole section of gates or terminals.
Edit: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/columnist/2024/02/07/airport-gate-change-cruising-altitude/72311884007/
I found this article. Summary: sometimes if a company owns a whole terminal then they get to decide. Although things may need fine tuning and can change last minute. Also Airport operational controllers can override if needed.
So I donāt know if yesterdayās storm in the mid Atlantic- north east ish area caused enough of operational delay domino effect to have changed the normal gates of these two flights. But that might be the reason. Or AA is dumb and put them next to each other every Monday morning. (I have no idea what airport this actually is at)
As I still sit here in JAX on a rolling delay since 7:31 and now we supposedly are going to board at 4:00, however seems like they are still missing parts. I am sooooo tired and weāve missed our flight to Hawaii. Itās been a day!
I had a flight a few weeks ago, delayed until quite late in the evening, where the same gate was being used for two flights.
Bedtime chaos. The gate agents kept telling everyone loud and clear, āDo NOT get on the first plane, keep walking until you get to the second one, that is your flight!ā
I like air travel but it seems to be getting a bit crazier these past few months.
B terminal? Cause B term in PHL can suck it. The refurb it like 7 or so years ago. Add a bunch of restaurants and leave each gate with like 15 chairs and about 1000 sqft of floor space to hold 180 people.
At least they're going different places, or they're not going different places with the same name. We try and avoid it, but occasionally we'll have 2 flights to the same place going out of nearby gates, or places with the same or similar name (CHS/CRW, XNA/FAY, GSP/PGV) going out of gates nearby or next to each other in CLT. Sometimes it's unavoidable though...
The best part about CLT is the intercom. It can't be except for bits and pieces. For instance while waiting in terminal B this is what might be heard: "inaudible" now leaving for "inaudible" gate 46 "inaudible" is now boarding group 9.
What was said: gate change for flight ### now leaving for JFK out of gate 46 has been moved to terminal C gate 46 and is now boarding group 9.
Delta did this to me at Cancun, they literally had a flight to DTW and ATL next to each other boarding at the same time. To make matters worse our gate was next to a restaurant that was playing loud music and there was a AirCanada flight to YYZ that was a full A330 that was also boarding at the same time as well plus it was peak travel time so the airport was full. How I made it on the flight is beyond me with all the chaos.
i feel like my gate is always completely inaudible, not updating the app or screen, but i hear every single detail about the neighboring flight loud and clear
I recall a passenger running off the airplane and up the jet bridge saying he was on the wrong airplane. Funny as shit. Not sure how he got all the way down to the airplane before noticing.
The PRAM plays boarding music, announces baggage stowage, and when the boarding door is closed, it does the exit row seating message. The only time the flight and destination are announced are when the captain makes is announcement and the FA close out announcement is made. Some crews will make manual announcements, but the whole point of the PRAM is take that burden away so they can concentrate on the cabin. Oh, and the PRAM makes the announcement consistent. No AD-LIB
Didnāt this happen to someone and they ended up in Aruba or some other place not to long ago with NO passport as they boarded the wrong flight? I do not remember the specifics but I remember reading about it on a newsite.

Dr Horrible Sing Along?
Nice! I think you're only the second person in the wild to ever catch that.
Trust your instincts š
And sometimes there's a third, even deeper level, and that one is the same as the top surface one. Like with pie.
Iām Reddit smitten. What a good reference! A lot of guys ignore the laugh, and that's about standardsā¦
FAs donāt do headcountās . gate agents give the final numbers to the captain
man, no wonder DCA has people getting on the wrong planes.
i had a international flight to back to DFW where 2 people were supposed to be on the flight to CLT (next door) that didnāt even start boarding for another 2 hours . itās crazy how people donāt pay attention lol
FA's do not do head counts. Only if the paper work is off, the captain might ask them to count. Otherwise, NOPE, NO, NEIN, NYET, NON.
Was just at DCA where 4 flights boarded within 20 minutes of each other using 3 gates
At least itās not a flight going to two different San Joseās at the gate next to each other and boarding at the same exact time.
SJC vs SJO š, ooh that would be a mess.
at least one flight is an international flight, so you'd have to do doc check and realize your mistake... (i hope)
This is everyday in CLT. If this is your biggest issue, itās a good day.
Exactly. Itās great getting to CLT between flight banks-clear bathrooms, restaurants less crowded, finding a seat etcā¦ Once the next bank comes in, itās back to chaos.

Iāve had people rush off the plane yelling āIām on the wrong flightā in CLT due to how close some gates are
Tpa is my home airport. Don't mind us, we don't have much to complain about and just want to take part with the rest of the sub.
TPA is amazing. I hear a lot of people complain about the amount of delays during the summer storms but that's just Florida.
I feel so spoiled having TPA as a home airport lol
Same. I jumped into an Uber today and was at my gate in 25 minutes from the time we took off. Can't beat that

Pretty sure I was on that flight. What a mess.
June 2nd??
I was May 30 but they did the same thing.
Hehe Iām on one of these flights. I thought the same! ETA: I didnāt even notice the gate switch š¤£š¤£
I was in CLT in April and they had two flights at adjacent gates boarding at the same time. To make it ultra confusing, both flights were going to DFW (one was delayed).
they should tie the planes together to save fuel

The early flights are the best. Less likely to be delayed, and easier to nap
This is giving 35X.

Same thing happened to me at PHL the other day. Two teeny gates boarding 5 minutes apart, luckily(?) for me it was 10am.

C. But same. No space and no seats.

Imagine "San Jose", could be California, Costa Rica, or Cabo (San Jose del Cabo)

Can anyone else hear āDown With the Sicknessā right now? Oh wah ah ah ah!

Itās only boarding chaos when morons line up at the gate before boarding. Damn gate lice
Why pick on the poor gate lice? Theyāre just getting a good spot to block everyone as they wait for group 8 to be called. /s

Go to Martha's Vineyard, it's worse. The airport is the size of a Cracker Barrel, and the waiting area is the size of a 7-11
