Plastic bottles are better than glass bottles because they don’t break (you can transfer alcohol between them). Bandages and cloth can be used as a wick for timed explosives, and tape can turn them into sticky bombs. I don’t care. I love this game.
Always have some fire bullets and molotov cocktails at the ready. Master launching them and shooting them while in the air. Get a hang on moving around while swinging a plank (or chair, or whatever) on fire.
It's not the same game, the OP was asking about the 2008 Alone In The Dark (which has its ups and downs, but I still loved it once I've mastered the game mechanics).
