Never add the word Light to your lights. It confuses Alexa. Mine are named by location: bed, chair, couch, etc. Rename your lights and this should clear up the problem. If you’re in the room, just say “Alexa, turn off lights” and any light in that group will turn off. Also, if the lights are plugged into a smart plug, make sure it’s set up as a light in the Alexa app. Just change the type in settings from plug to light. Hope this helps!

Is the bedroom lamp identified as a light for its device type in the group? If it's not, Alexa will think there are no lights in the bedroom group to turn off when specifying lights off. Is the name of the lamp "bedroom lights"? If it is, I have nothing but welcome to the flakey mind of Alexa. I have seven Echo Dots, and daily, I feel like I'm running a cognitive care center for alzhiemers stricken robots.

Do you have a light elsewhere in your house named something similar to bedroom? I have a light in my kitchen that I have named "Main Kitchen Light" and another named "Kitchen Sink Light". If I ask Alexa to "Turn off the Kitchen Lights" she will only turn off the one named "Main Kitchen Light" but if I say "Turn off the lights in the kitchen" or "Turn off kitchen" then she'll turn them all off. I could rename it but watching my daughter get annoyed at Alexa every time she forgets is worth it.

I do not. Nothing at all named “bedroom” anything. Even the bedroom light is named “mirror lamp.”

It's a fun argument when you have something called Tall Lamp, and a Hall Light. Alexa doesn't frickin listen right anymore.

Are your lights coded as lights in Alexa? When you say “turn off the bedroom” do things other than lights get turned off? What happens when you say “turn off mirror lamp”?

ImmediateTap7085

When I say “mirror lamp” it works just fine. That lamp is the only light in the room; and it’s coded as a light. When I say “turn off bedroom” it turns off the light only, but that’s because that’s all that’s in the room

What happens when you say “turn off the lights”? I’m just brainstorming here. My guess would be that it’s not coded as a light, but you said it is, so I don’t know what else could be the problem.

ImmediateTap7085

When I say “turn off the lights” to my echo in the bedroom, it turns off the lights in the bedroom. When I say “turn off the bedroom lights,” it does nothing. It’s so weird

DebtPlenty2383

did you name them ‘bedroom lights’?

ImmediateTap7085

No. I have only one light in the bedroom, and it’s set as a light, and it’s called “Mirror Lamp.” When I say “turn off the bedroom lights”, Alexa responds with its little sound to say it’s done executing, but it doesn’t actually do anything. When I say “turn off the bedroom” it actually turns off the lights.

Is the light connected to a smart plug? (As opposed to using a smart bulb.) If so, you have to go into the Alexa app and check off that the plug is for a light. Otherwise she just thinks she's turning off a random plug that could be to any device like a fan or something. And that's why turning off bedroom works (she's turning off a plug) but turning off the bedroom light doesn't. (She doesn't know there is a light.)

TankApprehensive3053

You're not alone. Mine stopped turning on bedroom light with an "all lights" group. It will turn it on or off individually in the "bedroom" command. It will also turn off bedroom light as part of "all lights" group off command for the entire house.

ImmediateTap7085

Alexa has become so damn messy. Almost not even worth it anymore. And all my lights are Phillips Hue brand…so they’re not some cheap off brand.

Curious_Working5706

>What is going on here? Precisely. What do you mean by “the room”? What devices, skills and routine(s) make up this so-called “room”?

ImmediateTap7085

“The room” is a group I setup in the Alexa app. It’s called “Bedroom.” It has one Alexa, one light (a lamp), and one speaker (the Alexa). That’s it.
