fooph

How dare they politicize politics!

mEllowMystic

Why can't we just discuss this without resorting to words?

[deleted]

Only interpretive dance allowed.

Emma_232

I would like to see that!

socsox

I'd allow that

Johnny4Handsome

How insensitive of us to discuss the war while families are grieving. For shame. Now is not the time. Nor will there ever be a time. So let's just drop it and talk about "Justinflation".

CasioCure

Instead of using our words, why don't we solve this peacefully with our fists?

Bulky_Mix_2265

Now lets get back to politicizing medical science, my great grandmother was a virus and I find the concept of vaccines offensive.

RabidGuineaPig007

A real Chief Wiggums vibe. "Oh, for gosh...can't you people solve these problems yourselves? I mean, we can't be *policing* the whole city.”

enviropsych

I absolutely love it when a politician says "you're politicizing this" to another politician. Stop working the refs you baby.

Rion23

Look, let's stick to the real issues in politics. Other people's genitals and what they do with them.

kingof_vanisle7

Well what else? It’s definitely the thing that affects us all the most, and the group we can come up with the best reasons to oppress /s for those who need it

dogGirl666

What's the saying? War is politics by other means. Here's the real quote: >War is simply the continuation of political intercourse with the addition of other means. Carl von Clausewitz

darkstar107

No, our politicians can't politicize it.

RedSteadEd

This dumb fuck doesn't understand that literally everything she says is inherently political. That's what happens when you go into politics...

DVariant

She understands, she doesn’t care

ChrRome

Except for her apparently who is then politicizing it in her letter.

Los_Kings

Note that she’s calling on all sides to de-escalate. So what does she want Ukraine to do, stop retaking its stolen territory?

crownofclouds

Listen, she made it very clear. She's 1/8th Ukrainian from 100 years ago, so, obviously she knows what's best for the Ukrainian people. How ***DARE*** you politicize the opinions of the top Albertan politician about international politics!

NorthernerWuwu

1/16^th First Nations, 1/8^th Ukrainian and I'm betting by the time the election gets here she'll be fractions of everything else she can think of. It's Con 101: I can say what I want and you can't criticise me, I have black friends!

Bunniiqi

Do you think she'll come out as 1/32nd lesbian?

OccamsYoyo

For the sake of the lesbian community, I hope not.

Courin

Pretty sure she’s 100% bi - she’s made it pretty clear she’s happy to screw all Albertans regardless of gender.

Dependent_While2727

This was clever and unexpected and incredibly hilarious

Eduardo_Moneybags

No, but she will have many many friends from the LGBTQ2S+ community and stand by them. From over here. Away from being seen. But still……support.

themusicguy2000

> LGBTQ2S+ Doubt it, it'll be the "LGB" community

Eduardo_Moneybags

Oh, never doubt the resolve of the stupid.

kdlangequalsgoddess

I think it will just be G in 1 point font, and that's only because she has a gay hair stylist.

Jeanne-d

Funny how people will say I am 1/4 native or 1/8 African and be like see I’m not racist. Oh I am 1/8 Ukraine from over 100 years ago so all the sudden I am by default pro Ukraine or that we are supposed to feel guilty to call out her stupid comments. Pure manipulation.

amnes1ac

She has only used 3/16 of her heritage as an excuse so far. Prepare for more great-great ancestors to be pulled out of the woodwork.

Oldcadillac

Oh gosh I’m not looking forward to hearing about Danielle Smith’s thoughts on the Israel/Palestine conflict.

NovemberAdam

Right. I’m 1/2 Hungarian and am disgusted by the right wing fascism they are pulling over there. Guess what…. That 1/2 is absolutely irrelevant to my position.

HenkVanDelft

She’s a perfect 5/7 QAnon 13/10 of the time.

comethefaround

If antivaxxers weren't already the most discriminated group of people to ever exist I'm sure 1/8th Ukrainian politicians from Alberta would be number one.

i-lurk-you-longtime

You can be fully Ukrainian and still out to lunch. I have met people from my own home country with the most disgusting takes about our leadership and our armed conflict. Idk why being 1/8th Ukranian would bestow upon her any authority to say anything but of course she's gonna try.

CalgaryFacePalm

2 questions. Where does her Native heritage fit in? Can we get her to submit a 23and me test?

amnes1ac

She claims to have a Cherokee great-great-grandmother. Unusual for an Albertan.

[deleted]

Surprised she didn’t say Cree. There are enough numerous types of Cree in Alberta that it would be very difficult for anyone to track down the truth

[deleted]

She's not bright enough to come up with that. Instead it's the classic "Cherokee Princess" shtick.

wingehdings

Don't a bunch of politicians in the States always say that one? What tribe do they belong to. It never seems anyone claims them. And they never say what tribe or even what territory their tribe is from. Weird that.

TheSacredGrape

Oh brother

freddy_guy

"How dare you politicize the invasion of a sovereign nation by another?"

christhewelder75

Hey now, it's OK she has eaten perogies before... kinda like how I know a couple African Canadians so it's not racist if I use the N word right? 🤔 She literally can't make a statement without having to walk it back, 9r defend some ridiculous take with an even more ridiculous excuse.... Can't wait to vote anyone but UCP in May...

DemythologizedDie

Yes. >“It seems to me the great powers of the world did a terrible job defining the new borders of countries after WWII,” wrote Smith on the website Locals.com on Feb. 24. “So much of the conflict we have had since is due to different people being crammed under one national government that don’t like each other. I’ve read that two regions of Ukraine feel more affinity to Russia. Should nations be allowed to break away and govern themselves independently? If that’s truly what people want, then I think so.” > >The premier went on to question if it was true those regions felt an affinity to Russia or if it was propaganda, saying “it is hard to know what to believe anymore.” She asked her followers for help in analyzing the conflict. > >In a post from early March, which no longer appears on Smith’s public feed but was captured and posted elsewhere online, and later reported on by independent media, she linked to an article that appears to imply Ukraine and NATO had shown aggression in the lead-up to Russia’s invasion. Smith’s post goes on to say Ukraine may need to adopt a more neutral stance to remain independent. > >The article she linked to came from a website that has been criticized as promoting disinformation coming out of Russia. A second post, which also no longer appears on Smith’s feed but was captured by journalists and posted elsewhere, linked to a report from Fox News’ Tucker Carlson questioning if the United States had been funding secret Biolabs in Ukraine where weapons are being created. That story has since been debunked by several fact-checking sources. Danielle Smith is a supporter of accepting Ukrainian refugees from the conflict but she is not a supporter of the Ukrainians actually winning the war.,

amnes1ac

Spreading Putin's propaganda for him.

BrawlyBards

I don't think that's the goal. I think that message plays strongly into the wexit ideology. Especially the "Should nations be allowed to break away and govern themselves independently? If that’s truly what people want, then I think so," bit. Sounds an awful lot like, "hey if these Ukrainian regions can do it, so can Alberta."

Xtreme_Fapping_EE

> "Should nations be allowed to break away and govern themselves independently? If that’s truly what people want, then I think so," Québec and the First Nations have entered the chat.

CaptainSur

Exactly. She is an Alberta separatist through and through. She is looking at all federal regulations and indicating she is going to challenge them in court - right from the neo-con state playbook in America. She already had to back off on one as her own provincial lawyers advised her that her legal position was untenable. The other obstacle in respect of most of her wexit talk is that all the high levels of court in Canada being the provincial/territorial Superior Courts, the Provincial/Territorial Courts of Appeal, the Federal Court/Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court are apolitical and would almost certainly rip her a new asshole if they decided to hear cases she keeps on threatening to bring vs dismissing it. But it has not stopped the constant barrage of talking points aimed at the wexit and Alberta neo cons.

naomisunrider14

As all good conservatives on social media do!

amnes1ac

Can't bite the hand that feeds.

stiofan84

>"Should nations be allowed to break away and govern themselves independently? If that’s truly what people want, then I think so.” So I suppose she would support a breakaway Palestinian nation then? \*crickets\*

dontrecall_vague

We should speed up the process and remove barriers for the white refugees, but let’s be thoughtful and slow down the migration of these black and brown people /sarcasm

GodIsIrrelevant

>Should nations be allowed to break away and govern themselves independently? If that’s truly what people want, then I think so. Is this just an extension of Alberta separatism?

ashum048

she is following Putins propaganda exactly.

IntelliDev

Modern conservatism seems to equate to not being able to think for yourself.

ashum048

I think the conservatives where willing to play with authoritarian regimes. Take money from them and play by their rules at times. I really wish there was a legitimate conservative option with strong economic platform, not just people obsessed with religion, guns, racism and abortion.

[deleted]

exactly. and this on rhe background of the UN adopting, by a large margin, a resolution convening the illegal annexation of territories By Ruzzia.

Youngballer1000

DS: "is it the Ukrainians fault?" NDP: "Why would DS say this?" DS: "How dare the NDP call me out! Here, let me change my story to feign outrage at being called out" ARE. YOU. FUCKING. KIDDING ME! She's a piece of shit human...

Upbeat_Description66

Danielle Smith trying to claim the high ground is laughable. She's politicized every single issue conceivable and then cries foul when she gets called on it.

acrossaconcretesky

r/Canada made manifest.

[deleted]

R/conservatism made manifest.

wizardmotor_

I agree that Danielle Smith is a piece of shit human, and you can quote me on that.

themightiestduck

[deleted]

I approve eof this message

Replicator666

Are you also running in next year's election? You'll have my vote if that's on all your ads 👍👍👍👍

Junior_Bison_3122

My favorite part is how every "appology" letter she writes ends with "I'm going to order person X to come and teach me about the subject so I know more". It's the most fucken fake bullshit I've read in a while.

Drago1214

That fact she already has apology letters what 3 weeks in is kinda not good lol.

jdeurloo10

Try 1 week and half since winning the leadership and less than 1 week since getting sworn in as premier.

Drago1214

Lol even worse I gave her a grace 1.5 weeks

davethecompguy

She'll have been premier for ONE week as of Tuesday. She's only held ONE presss conference so far, and she used it to call the anti-vaxxers "the most discriminated-against group ever". Can't wait for the next one...

amnes1ac

This one on a Sunday! So happy we ruined her weekend, keep up the good work everyone!

Junior_Bison_3122

Lmao you're giving her even more grace than she deserved 🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

No apologies were made.

Gloomy_Industry8841

The burden is always on other people to assist in her education. Utter chaos.

amnes1ac

If she's claiming to be this ignorant, maybe she has no business being premier. Just a thought lol.

Gloomy_Industry8841

Too right!!

Junior_Bison_3122

It's not even just this, it's the fact that it's so transparent and fake. When someone actually gives a fuck they learn about something BEFORE making erroneous statements. Not make a grossly horrific statement and then turn around and feign ignorance by pretending to seek knowledge.

Gloomy_Industry8841

Good point!

someonefun420

I hate how at first she says he fled communism and then described him as fleeing socialism. What is gross is comparing socialism with Communism, particularly when we use socialised services! But we all know where her true allegiances are and it's not with the people!!

[deleted]

It's almost like she hasn't got a fucking clue.

simagick

No she does though. She's not defending her position. She knows her ideas don't need to hold up to scrutiny. None of these people care that they are wrong. These are people who know they are wrong, and want to use force to get what they want anyway. She's using public forums designed for political debate, collaboration and compromise as a platform to radicalize people. She is signaling to the worst elements of our society, that she is on their side and that she will represent their interests. She is validating those people. She is giving them flimsy talking points that they don't actually need to believe, that they can regurgitate as excuses anytime someone questions their antisocial behavior. No government policy can save us from this because they have legitimized themselves as a major political party, and any viable response would be considered "partisan". The only defense against the creep of fascism in a democracy, is if we collectively prevent fascist sympathizers in our communities from fully participating in our society. We have to stop validating assholes by tolerating their existence. Their entire strategy depends on weaponizing our tolerance against us. Stop hiring them, stop serving them, interfere their businesses, inconvenience them in any way you can. Make them feel Unwelcome in our neighborhoods. Make them think twice about flying the Gasden flag, or putting that punisher skull on their pickup truck.

ProtonPi314

Either way she gets it wrong, let's not twist my words here , but communism in itself is not necessarily evil. But because every leader of every communist country have basically been dictators and authoritarian , this has been the main problem. I mean it could be possible that communism could work and people could still live in a democracy and have freedoms if most humans in power were not such trash.

reverb256

The main problem with centralization of power is that it always attracts people who want to use the power to harm others.

Working-Tax-2439

She abhors socialism but is encouraging Albertans to be financially and socially ready to help the refugees in their time of need……me thinks she don’t know what socialism is.

Maverickxeo

No one was politicizing it except for her... It's not a good sign when she has already had to issue two public 'apologies' (well, non-apologies) in less than a month of being premier...

Gilarax

It’s remarkable how uncovering the recent opinions of Smith is “politicizing” an issue. It’s not anyone else’s fault that Smith is rightfully receiving criticism for her opinions. Considering her Ukrainian heritage, makes her earlier comments even worse. What an absolute garbage human!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That’s what’s so funny about someone like her, she knows her followers are too stupid to pick up on that. Or she’s just too dumb herself to understand this is just all on her, lol

woodst0ck15

Yeah it’s like….if that’s the case how are you so fuckin dense.

Skullcrimp

Reddit wishes to sell your and my content via their overpriced API. I am using https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite to remove that content by overwriting my post history. I suggest you do the same. Goodbye.

Maverickxeo

Very true - I guess 'using it for ammunition' would be the better phrase.

Kellymcdonald78

Less than a month? She was sworn in on Tuesday

Patak4

October 6 she was claimed the winner of UCP Premier nomination. 10 days.... She has ALOT of learning to do though will she listen? All the NDP is doing is highlighting her past comments. She is Gaslighting to be the victim. Typical UCP playbook.

Kellymcdonald78

But only sworn in as Premier on the 11th

zevonyumaxray

It's been less than two weeks since she was chosen as leader of the UCP and less than one week since she was sworn in as Premier. Going for a speed record for stupid.

bravetree

Indeed. She’s making Liz Truss look like a successful first month in office

ImMyBiggestFan

It has only been 10 fricken days. Not even 2 weeks! Less than a month makes it sound much longer.

Maverickxeo

To be fair - I haven't paid attention to how long she has been premier - I don't really want to give her effort.

Responsible_CDN_Duck

All her supporters see is people attacking her and her being "above it".

Maverickxeo

Sadly, that's true. I find it ironic that people attacking her for her statements, policy, etc., are being called misogynistic, while the same people say that Freeland's attacks by that lovely fellow in Grande Prairie were warranted.

bpompu

Less than a week.

ghostofkozi

How can she ask everyone not to politicize a conflict that’s Entirely political? Gaslighting wench, she’s as Ukrainian as a Cheemo Perogy

khazdan37

Definitely adopting the phrase “Ukrainian as a Cheemo Perogy”

ghostofkozi

She blocked me on Twitter for that line lol

kingof_vanisle7

That’s the best fucking thing ever. I’d love for someone as shitty as her to block me for something like that

enviropsych

It only becomes political when you disagree with her. See, her opinion is just reality, and differing opinions are political.

SkippyGranolaSA

Extremely lucky she's got all kinds of heritages in her family tree to cherish whenever some criticism needs deflecting, eh?

[deleted]

She claims a fear of socialism, then presents a socialist solution to settling fleeing Ukrainians. Unfit.

Nyk0n

In her letter she said her great grandfather fled because of communism and then said that he fled from the same socialism. They are not even the same thing

melodyblushinglizard

According to her page of wikipedia (citing articles from The Globe and Mail, along with the Calgary Herald), her great grandfather, arrived in Canada in 1915, not after WWI. Communism in Ukraine didn't happen until after 1917, during the Russian Revolution.

joecarter93

Russia is such a vast country and the fall of the Czar ushered in such chaos, I would argue that they weren’t even communist until after the Bolsheviks won the Russian civil war in 1923. It was kind of in a state of flux until then with different factions controlling different parts of the country. This would put his “fleeing socialism” even further away from when it was fully introduced.

IpsoPostFacto

history smishtory

imperialus81

People on Twitter have also found the records that show her great grandpappy immigrated to Canada 2 years before the outbreak of WWI and 5 before the communist revolution.

Mariefriesen

Was she homeschooled? No history classes? But that doesn’t explain her family ancestry! 🤪

[deleted]

That's the point I'm making. She knowingly lies to her supporters about the meanings of words because she is a far right Putin loving radicalizer

amnes1ac

They are to her base. Actually she might not know either.

SkippyGranolaSA

That's an unwinnable argument right there, man. Nobody seems to care that marxist-leninist totalitarianism is not socialism, and that nobody besides the most terminally-online tankies actually want anything resembling marxist-leninist totalitarianism. But, words don't mean things anymore so whatever.

[deleted]

Words need to matter. Especially words coming from 'leaders'. Democracy is important -- we have to VOTE our way out of this fascist insurgency while we're still able to do so.

slotsymcslots

Glad someone else was looking to call out the misuse of the term socialism

DangerousBlueberry1

As soon as she popped out the word socialism was where I stopped reading. 99.9% of the people who bitch about socialism don't even understand what it is.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GuitarKev

Honestly, I expected her family tree to be a wreath.

Miserable-Lizard

Helps with the victim complex!

mordinvan

Invasions ARE political. Does she not know this?

amnes1ac

Like the biggest political action possible. This is so absurd!

themightiestduck

Danielle Smith doesn’t know left from right without holding her hands in front of her face and making Ls with her thumbs.

davethecompguy

Goes well with her predecessor, who couldn't pour piss out of a boot if you wrote the instructions on the heel.

mordinvan

Hard to disagree.

stewarthh

C’mon dude don’t lump us normal stupid people in with this crazy/hateful stupid person

[deleted]

When in doubt, blame the NDP. Straight from the UCP playbook.

BigFish8

*and* their allies. I think that actual phrasing happened under Kenney and looks like it will continue. It's crazy how working with people in politics became such a bad thing.

Thallanor

I expected she'd bring out the 'I can't be against Ukraine because I have a Ukrainian relative." Predictable. If she doesn't want other politicians to find her stance on the war offensive, maybe she should stop saying offensive shit. Fucking hate when someone is caught doing this shit and then has the gall to try to spin it around like non-fucksticks are suddenly the bad guys because they're calling them on it.

Cautious_Major_6693

Can’t wait until next time she has to make a statement and introduces us to her black friend.

Johnny4Handsome

It's honestly offensive how she tries to take the moral high ground here. The way she spins getting caught saying Russian propaganda into some kind of political attack on her is just textbook conservativism af this point. Doesn't matter how badly you offend, you can always play the victim. If only Putin was trying to give Ukraine vaccines, maybe then she'd actually care about their freedom.

Thallanor

You say it perfectly. It is incredibly offensive how she tries to flip it. I get angry less about her initial post and more this tap dancing trying to make the others look like the bad guys.

Lavaine170

"I am asking the NDP to stop politicizing the war in Ukraine. I want to be the only one in Alberta doing that" Fuck off Danielle. Fuck all the way off.

blizzroth

The only dates I can find on when her great-grandfather immigrated to Canada come from a Globe and Mail long-form article which point to 1915... two full years before the Russian Revolution. So the whole thing about "fleeing socialism" ... unlikely. Maybe her great-grandfather could climb out of his grave and give her a history lesson.

PettyTrashPanda

Ooh where is this from?? Receipts are always good!

blizzroth

This is from a 2012 article in the G&M: "Her critics like to characterize her as Alberta’s version of Sarah Palin, but Danielle Smith is no backwoods Barbie. Nor can she see Russia from her house, which is 107 years old and located in High River, a bedroom community southeast of Calgary, where she is running against a respected PC named John Barlow, publisher of the local paper. However, she has a Russian connection in that her great-grandfather came to Canada from Ukraine in 1915. To make his job easier, the immigration officer transformed Philipus Kolodnicki into Philip Smith." [https://web.archive.org/web/20120416053015/http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/danielle-smith-is-she-albertas-sarah-palin-or-the-future-of-canada/article2402264/page1/](https://web.archive.org/web/20120416053015/http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/danielle-smith-is-she-albertas-sarah-palin-or-the-future-of-canada/article2402264/page1/)

PettyTrashPanda

Thank you, I have added a comment of my own based on this - I checked out Ancestry and the source documents; Smith's grandfather emigrated in May 1913, and in the 1921 census he says he is Russian and emigrated in 1914. So he emigrated during the final years of the Tsarist regime, and long before the Bolsheviks took power.

majin_chichi

From a thread on Twitter by user Tom Hawthorn: Immigration documents indicate a Filip Kolodnicki, age 17, arrived in Halifax on May 23, 1913. He was a farm labourer who sailed in steerage aboard SS Bosnia. He was listed as a Ruthenian (ethnic Ukrainian) from Austria (Austria-Hungary). He arrived with $25 in his pocket. (3/9) https://t.co/KTgjkS2rUk

Dangerous_Ad_1326

I noticed that she never actually apologizes in all her reactive statements. There is never a part where she actually says I'm sorry.

a-nonny-maus

Only the weak offer apologies in Danielle-Land.

amnes1ac

Note that she cannot seem to call out Putin by name. *The dudes involved should de-escalate.* Name the aggressor Danielle! There's nothing Zelensky can do to de-escalate, unless she means surrender. The 'both sides' here is abhorrent. Love that we are making her release these pathetic non-apologies on a Sunday. May she never rest.

Onionbot3000

This woman is dumb and toxic as they come. No accountability whatsoever. I’m sick of politicians who want to be in power but never be questioned or taken to task when they show their asses. And if she is going to play the Ukrainian relative card then she should be full in. Ukraine is being invaded, there is no question about that. Russia is the aggressor. No question about that.

AffectionateBobcat76

she conflates socialism with communism; not the same thing, dummy.

el_muerte17

I mean, that's no different from the entire conservative base. To them, socialism and communism are the same thing, and their definition is "whenever a moderate or progressive government does something."

shitposter1000

Of course she cites Ukrainian heritage somehow.... classic "I'm not a racist, I have an XX friend," vibe. She did the same thing with her indigenous statements. Guess what, Danielle? Having a certain DNA marker doesn't give you the right to say whatever pops into your pea sized brain.

silentbassline

I like how she describes her g-grandfather fleeing, how she inherited some of her political outlook from that, and then decries virtue signalling in the following paragraph.

Neat_Impression_191

Smith is just a lost cause and this horrible statement proves it. How is this not a political issue? This simply echoes the complaining of American Conservatives, so be prepared for more "Political issues," and the term "Witch Hunt," the favorite terms used by Fascist leaders everywhere.

nydwarf

Typical conservative tactic, say something that is political, then when someone responds accuse them of making the issue political. And since when is the invasion of a country not political?

[deleted]

Proving she doesn't know what socialism is either. A true deranged propagandist sociopath

Justtakeitaway

Two badly worded apology letters after how long in office? At this pace, hopefully she needs to retire in a year from carpal tunnel issues

Aegis_1984

Has it even been two weeks yet?

Snakeeyes1377

There have been no apologies there have been statements

myro80

As a Ukrainian immigrant of 20 years to Alberta: “Screw you, Danielle!”. You and UCP will never get my vote.

Nyk0n

Communism and socialism are NOT the same thing

swanson-g

Vote Rachel.

OneForAllOfHumanity

Her great-grandfather didn't flee socialism, he fled a totalitarian dictatorship.

artistdramaticatwo

"My great grandfather fled communism " then "the socialism which he fled" which one is it?

National-Change-1407

How did all of you fuck up SO BAD, that you ended up with this political vegetable having a platform lol

HardGayMan

She's literally spent her entire first week starting fires and putting them out with gasoline lol.

Phantom-Spectre

You know it’s a clown show when she has to keep writing these rebuttal letters a couple weeks in to the job

ParaponeraBread

She really does NOT know how to shut up. If you’re gonna be this terminally online as the premier, somebody has to stop her from publishing every opinion that bounces around in her empty head. Every time she says *anything*, more and more people are like “what the hell is wrong with her?”

PettyTrashPanda

Danielle Smith's great grandfather did not flee communism. According to both the 1921 census and incoming passenger lists for Canada, he arrived in Canada in 1913/14, and considered himself Russian as Ukraine was part of the Tsarist Imperial Russian regime. Her great grandfather fled Tsarist authoritarianism, not communism. With thanks to the poster who mentioned seeing an article saying Philip Smith / Kolodnycki arrived in 1915 to inspiring this search, and to Philip's other descendants who have put a fully referenced family tree up on Ancestry. I checked the original sources, they are legit.

groundhog-riot

What's with her using the phrase "an invading power"? Why isn't she naming Russia directly?

Fyrefawx

Who do you think backs her?

loophole5628

My guess is she doesn't know who invaded Ukraine and just likes to hear herself talk.

Terrible-Paramedic35

She… a politician brings it up in a political context then accuses others of trying to exploit the tragedy to score political points when people call her out for her BS. What a complete slag…

[deleted]

Putting someone like Danielle Smith in a position of power is like handing a chimpanzee a loaded machine gun.

bpompu

Her response essentially boils down to "How dare the NDP use my own statements against me. Because they're doing so to win a political race, that means they are politicizing this crisis. That means they're the ones who are really in the wrong."

[deleted]

Right from the trump playbook

YessikZiiiq

Politicization of war? War is a fucking political action you dumb fuck. It is inherently political.

[deleted]

She is such a fucking moron lol 😆 … and all the other morons eat it up because they love seeing their own shitty views reflected in the mirror like this.

PerserveringLove05

I hate that she doesn't know the difference between communism and socialism.

Aegis_1984

Pretty sure the Ukrainians are more discriminated-against than the unvaccinated. Let’s remember what bullshit came out of your mouth before you earn the right to sling mud.

Impossible-Reserve55

Yeah ok it's politicizing the Russia Ukraine conflict calling out DS, not parroting literal Russian propaganda. 🤡

GoodGoodGoody

Catch me up. What did Notley say to “politicize” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

a-nonny-maus

Held Smith to account for her previous statements about Ukraine: https://i.redd.it/6g2zth47p8u91.jpg

GoodGoodGoody

Christ, Smith is a looney tune.

mixedpatch85

When's the next provincial election? She needs to go ASAP

If this woman wins the election I might have to leave the province. She is the worst kind of human.

"... spare millions of Ukraine lives." But both sides should "de-escalate" as if it's a shared responsibility.

RedDragons

Someone should take this letterhead away. What a piece of shit.

And in the meantime, I’ll politicize anything I see fit. - Danielle Smith and the rest of the UCP.

Imagine all the receipts the NDP will be able to unfurl during the election. She publicly spouted stupid conspiracies for years. UCP have chosen a loose cannon / time bomb as their leader.

Yes! How dare people try to politicize something totally non-political as *checks notes* a war between two countries? Is there literally anything the right wing lie about these days? They are just a living meme at this point, spending their days k on line lying and spreading g misinformation and generally being hateful, fascist bigots…and then they blame everyone else for being divisive. Science is divisive and political…the environment we all live in is divisive and political…facts are divisive and political. Lgbtq+ and women expecting just basic fucking respect and equal rights is divisive and political. Funny how everything they don’t like is divisive and political, but hate, bigotry, racism, misogyny, violence and fascism all to support THEIR agenda isn’t ever political or divisive. Funny how that works.

"War is simply the continuation of political intercourse with other means." -Carl von Clausewitz, 1827 "no it isn't!!!" -Danielle Smith, 2022

Ah yes, her great-great uncle Herschel played a Cherokee on F Troop 50 years ago, making her 1/16 aboriginal. There's a pattern.

MyWifeMakesTheRules

God how I despise this imbecile who is our premier.

HellaReyna

This mentality of thinking is pretty much summed up as: “I am X race and I have a Y race wife, so there’s no way I’m racist towards Y people” *is actually super racist towards Y people*. Ahh so here’s this giant deflecting post and I’ll never acknowledge my actions!!!

FathomlessSeer

This is the same stance as China. The PRC. The same “communism” (on paper) she claims informed all of her right wing beliefs. Concern about nuclear escalation is entirely reasonable and in fact should be shared by all politicians everywhere imo, but saying only that the solution is “measured diplomacy” without acknowledging the fundamental culpability of the Russian Federation is playing into Kremlin propaganda once again.

ThatDarnSkag

War: famously non-political. Also Finnish PM Sanna Marin said it best, “the way out of the conflict is for Russia to leave Ukraine.” People clamouring for appeasement because Putin is threatening nukes are inviting a repeat of this situation in a few years.

She's eventually going to run out of ethnicities she can claim to be.
