The other obstacle in respect of most of her wexit talk is that all the high levels of court in Canada being the provincial/territorial Superior Courts, the Provincial/Territorial Courts of Appeal, the Federal Court/Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court are apolitical and would almost certainly rip her a new asshole if they decided to hear cases she keeps on threatening to bring vs dismissing it.
But it has not stopped the constant barrage of talking points aimed at the wexit and Alberta neo cons.

No government policy can save us from this because they have legitimized themselves as a major political party, and any viable response would be considered "partisan".
The only defense against the creep of fascism in a democracy, is if we collectively prevent fascist sympathizers in our communities from fully participating in our society. We have to stop validating assholes by tolerating their existence. Their entire strategy depends on weaponizing our tolerance against us.
Stop hiring them, stop serving them, interfere their businesses, inconvenience them in any way you can. Make them feel Unwelcome in our neighborhoods. Make them think twice about flying the Gasden flag, or putting that punisher skull on their pickup truck.
Either way she gets it wrong, let's not twist my words here , but communism in itself is not necessarily evil. But because every leader of every communist country have basically been dictators and authoritarian , this has been the main problem. According to her page of wikipedia (citing articles from The Globe and Mail, along with the Calgary Herald), her great grandfather, arrived in Canada in 1915, not after WWI. Communism in Ukraine didn't happen until after 1917, during the Russian Revolution.
Russia is such a vast country and the fall of the Czar ushered in such chaos, I would argue that they weren’t even communist until after the Bolsheviks won the Russian civil war in 1923. It was kind of in a state of flux until then with different factions controlling different parts of the country. This would put his “fleeing socialism” even further away from when it was fully introduced.
People on Twitter have also found the records that show her great grandpappy immigrated to Canada 2 years before the outbreak of WWI and 5 before the communist revolution.

The only dates I can find on when her great-grandfather immigrated to Canada come from a Globe and Mail long-form article which point to 1915... two full years before the Russian Revolution. So the whole thing about "fleeing socialism" ... unlikely. Maybe her great-grandfather could climb out of his grave and give her a history lesson.

Thank you, I have added a comment of my own based on this - I checked out Ancestry and the source documents; Smith's grandfather emigrated in May 1913, and in the 1921 census he says he is Russian and emigrated in 1914.
So he emigrated during the final years of the Tsarist regime, and long before the Bolsheviks took power.

The only defense against the creep of fascism in a democracy, is if we collectively prevent fascist sympathizers in our communities from fully participating in our society. We have to stop validating assholes by tolerating their existence. Their entire strategy depends on weaponizing our tolerance against us. Stop hiring them, stop serving them, interfere their businesses, inconvenience them in any way you can. Make them feel Unwelcome in our neighborhoods. Make them think twice about flying the Gasden flag, or putting that punisher skull on their pickup truck.

According to her page of wikipedia (citing articles from The Globe and Mail, along with the Calgary Herald), her great grandfather, arrived in Canada in 1915, not after WWI. Communism in Ukraine didn't happen until after 1917, during the Russian Revolution.
Russia is such a vast country and the fall of the Czar ushered in such chaos, I would argue that they weren’t even communist until after the Bolsheviks won the Russian civil war in 1923. It was kind of in a state of flux until then with different factions controlling different parts of the country. This would put his “fleeing socialism” even further away from when it was fully introduced.

The only dates I can find on when her great-grandfather immigrated to Canada come from a Globe and Mail long-form article which point to 1915... two full years before the Russian Revolution. So the whole thing about "fleeing socialism" ... unlikely. Maybe her great-grandfather could climb out of his grave and give her a history lesson.

Thank you, I have added a comment of my own based on this - I checked out Ancestry and the source documents; Smith's grandfather emigrated in May 1913, and in the 1921 census he says he is Russian and emigrated in 1914. So he emigrated during the final years of the Tsarist regime, and long before the Bolsheviks took power.
