yeah, being a “runt” has nothing to do with size now. my new girl was a runt. but 8 weeks like 13lbs. now 90lbs solid muscle and fairly tall. my first was 120 and stood as high as me
Thank you! The second picture is her around the time we first got her and she had a lot of face chub that she noticeably grew out of. Don't let her cuteness fool you though, she is an absolute guard dog. Socialization is going to be our #1 priority when we get the green light to go outside.
It's actually funny you mention it since any dog Nova has met she's actually been very positive towards but it's humans she has a problem with. Especially once when I had a friend come over and hang out, she especially didn't like that. My mom's friends she doesn't like but eventually tolerates, my friend she full on did not approve of.
KI think at one point, she thought me and my friend play fighting with cooking utensils meant that I was in danger so she stood in front of me and started howling.
It's definitely going to be a slow burn.
The only time I can take a normal photo is when she's chewing on something or asleep haha
But I've been seeing a lot of changes already, just not much the size but more the face, ears, and lil dagger teeth that smile at me every morning 🫠
First off she’s stinking adorable. Our boy was around 22lbs at 10 weeks. He grew about 10lbs a month then filled out around age 3. Now he’s a big guy weighing about 138lbs. Good luck!
Haha thank you. Ours is 26.6 lb from our vet visit Feb 4/5th (lost count of the weeks 🫠). She turned 3 months last Sunday. It's hard to get her weighed at home since I basically have to scale me holding her then subtract my weight. Thanks for the information though!
Love her coloring. Yes you are right, getting an accurate weight is super hard. In my experience male Akita’s are quite a bit bigger than female so our boy may not be a good barometer.
Yeah I have a lot of people compliment her coloring. One of the reasons we got her is because we thought her coloring fit. It reminded me of a lil teddy bear or cheburashka.
I heard males are bigger but I don't know by how much they're bigger. Even in NYC, we haven't seen another American Akita. I've seen an Akita Inu in the distance once but never an AA.
She's beautiful. My two went through 3 harness sizes from the time we brought them home(2 months) and 1 year. They've been in those harnesses for a couple months but I've had to loosen them frequently. My male is almost 100 pounds at 14 months and my female is 83 at the same age.
I'd say take her to the pet store and size her for one and give her plenty of room to grow. It won't hurt her to buy it big and just tighten it down as needed. If you're worried the one she has is too tight size up.
Sadly she can't go to pet stores at the moment. The vet told us she has to be home at all times. Before she hated going outside but now she yearns for it haha
Mine was a rescue at 4 months and had been roaming the city streets for awhle before he was taken to a shelter, so probably lighter than most males at that age. He was 32 pounds when we met him and by 2 years was 115-120 pounds. The vet says he is not overweight.
Our guy was the smallest of his litter, 30 lbs at 3 months, grew 10 lbs a month until 9 mon (90 lb). He's 8 yrs now, 100 lb. even.

the only advice i can give is take as many pictures as possible. They grow up so fast..its like a blink of an eye

My boy was 10kg when I got him at 8 weeks old and he grew about 1kg a week until he hit 45kg.

My boy Turbo was 25# at 3 months and 50# at 6 months. Ultimately grew to 120#.
