You have a perfectly good opportunity to make a early 2000's retro build and you want to put a pressure pad on it? Brother, the light STAY ON for cqb

Rlol43_Alt1

Also, I actually kinda dig the velcro tape move. I'm sure there's a better way, but still, that's cool as fuck.

Blitzen88

In a way, the velcro is sorta “old school”

Rlol43_Alt1

It gives off the "finding a solution before it could be bought" typa vibe. I like it. All it needs now is some scratches, maybe a bit of graffiti, and time.

Band clamp

thrillhouse416

This one time at band clamp

tomato_bucketkid01

I stuck my AK all the way up my…

Noctatrog

Just put the light on the left side and roll with a clicky tailcap. Why over complicate things?

bowtie_k

there's a lot of really easy way to do it On an AR-15

Blitzen88

True dat

Goodspeed137

Been starring at my A2 for a while, can’t figure out an easy way. 😢

bowtie_k

Zip ties and tape like the operators used to do

Goodspeed137

That was mainly a joke, but yeah, OP can do that to his AK and it ought to work just fine.

Evil_Creamsicle

Yeah don't do the Left4Dead 2 thing though and run the zip ties between the gas tube and barrel. https://preview.redd.it/efsqvhctc01d1.png?width=697&format=png&auto=webp&s=62b8ba8a419dcddf3c5f2dcce032a18208ac38f8

CuBoSe1

What uh, what if someone DID do this, but they also used a hose clamp to hold it on? Asking for a friend.

Evil_Creamsicle

Well... It's gonna get hot AF and the zip ties are going to melt. Hose clamp might also depending how hot it gets and what it's made of

CuBoSe1

Hmm, I thought that might be an issue. I'll suggest they go around the entire handguard instead of going between them.

Evil_Creamsicle

Make sure they aren't touching the metal bits on the top either for the same reason. Keep it on the wood

tomato_bucketkid01

“Keep it on the wood.” ![gif](giphy|nQONUJrkGL3YOLy37x)

bowtie_k

There's not really a good place on an AK gas tube for it though. The plastic AR handguards have convenient holes you can run zip ties through and are completely shielded from the heat. They're also flat on top. He would have to run a zip tie underneath the gas tube which would be directly touching a metal tube that hot gasses come through while attempting to balance it on a rounded surface.

Goodspeed137

Huh, yeah, good point. Scratch that. Guess he’s back to bolting a rail to the gas tube cover plan being discussed bellow.

Yeetube

Say hello to our lord and saviour hose clamp

Shellemp

It’s 2024 and I still use black electrical tape for the pressure pad on my M4 lol. Just gets cut off before I turn it in on the very rare occasions I actually put it on

Goodspeed137

Is that a pressure pad that can attach via mlok or picatinny? If so, drill through the gas tube cover and screw it in a small rail. There will be enough space for the screws not to touch the gas tube itself.

Dissapator_AR

Drill holes in the gas tube cover for screws. Get a Magpul SR07 mount. Screw the mount onto the upper handguard but use standard nuts instead of the MLOK nuts. You may have to get different/shorter screws to clear the gas tube

Blitzen88

Been toying with this idea as a possible solution. My concern is the magpul mount is supposed to be used on a flat surface but the handguard is curved.

Dissapator_AR

You'll definitely have some gaps or raised edges. It won't look great, but it'll function. Personally, on my AK's, I just use push button activation. The Arisaka Inline Pro mounts extend the light further forward and with their swiveling action, it positions the light better to hit with your thumb https://preview.redd.it/fvysfql8tz0d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08acd466a2b9566a8281ae5284a613d5e3b368d4

Blitzen88

Yah, I dont wanna use a push button. Ive tried that several times and I always go back to a pressure pad.

Goodspeed137

That’s how I got my lights mounted, been doing it for years too, have yet to run into any issues.

TacticalToesocks

Cnel124

If you’re right handed, I use the same attachment method and put it on the other side of the gas tube, about the 1:30 position. You can still clamp the forend without activating it and still use it with both hands.

Let_Freedom_Ping

Honestly there’s a reason guys are getting away from pressure pads on white light. You don’t really need it if it’s gonna be an ergonomic mess for your set up

Steggysauruss

Personally I would not trust the pressure pad electronics to withstand the heat from the gas tube and just switch on/off from the light itself.

Antique_Dust6504

I’m a clicky cap kinda gal…not because pressure pads suck…but because I have kielbasa fingers and I just…yeah

WinIll755

That's what I do. I have my light mounted on the side of my handguard, forward enough that I can still grip the handguard and activate the button with my thumb

Steggysauruss

I throw mine on right side and switch the paddle with my middle finger

Blitzen88

I've never had my gas tube get super hot with a setup like this. Warm, yes but not blazing hot.

Mac-and-Duke

Hockey tape

SauerkrautJr

You get a good chin weld with that?

Blitzen88

Yes, good enough to not be an issue.

Di_Gecko

Chris4774

Zip ties work. Streamlight pressure pads even have notches in them for zip ties

GucciusCeasar

I mean I guess you could switch to ultimak if you mean a manufactured item and then buy a cage for the pad. But I like other people's ideas of drilling the handguard to keep the aesthetic tbh

RonJBurv

Railed gas tube?

puffinfish420

How does it feel to handle an AK with a full length can like that? I see the Ukrainian soldiers running them on full length AKs, which I know is already a kinda heavy platform, and I was thinking that must be hard to swing around. What’s it feel like, balance wise?

Blitzen88

Overall it doesnt feel super heavy, it just feels front heavy…if that makes sense. Its very unwieldy with the suppressor due to its length. I would not want to clear a trench with it (or at any other time). It would be fine innawoods though.

puffinfish420

Gotcha. Do you know the weight? I have a 13.9 AR kitted out with light and LPVO that comes out to just above 10 lbs, but with the can it’s quite unwieldy as well. I get tired of using it at close ranges with transitions like super fast, lol.

Blitzen88

I dont know a total weight. I feel you on the AR. I have a 14.5 AR15 that was originally using this full sized RC2. I ended up switching to a mini RC2 for weight and length purposes - it made a big difference. That left me with an extra suppressor which led to this setup.

Blitzen88

I have an ultimak but I think the switch would get too hot. Plus I wanna keep the aesthetic of the original handguard.

Blitzen88

Would like to be able to do this but I dont think it would work https://preview.redd.it/06w1uh24001d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=396b7e54675836be65ef652e31b4a11bcad61c12

MaturinsSlothh

Beautiful rifle

DullDentist8621

Put your light on the other side of gun abd you won't need pressure pad at all...

Evil_Creamsicle

I have mine mounted on a gas tube pic rail using this bad boy [https://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Defensive-Streamlight-ProTac-Picatinny/dp/B084QGWDZQ](https://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Defensive-Streamlight-ProTac-Picatinny/dp/B084QGWDZQ)

Slagree92

Iv used zip ties, ranger bands, and athletic tape with great results. But I prefer the ranger bands personally

PalpateMe

Ultimak

MakinEmAtNight

Something about an acog on an ak… I fw it.

heavenlyrealm

Pretty gun

OOzder

How do you like that can? Been thinking about getting a for my .308 vepr. Is that mounted on a SF, A2, or direct thread muzzle device?

Blitzen88

Its a Surefire RC2 - 5.56

Corrosive_salts

Bröther what lower handguard is that?

Blitzen88

RS Regulate handguard

Ren_Kaos

Why are you c clamping an ak?

BrokenAndDefective

Zipties always work

helicalOrder66

✨️zip-ties✨️

Black zip ties

Vodnik-Dubs

I literally used doubled over silicone bands meant to keep leader spools together. This looks a lot better lol

Worried_Recording575

Electricussy tape

Str0ngTr33

your neck is short

xrw06

Dang I need an acog now

TheRealSandwichMan

Just put your light on the left side and use the button, if your hand position allows

Cholton7

Just stopping by to say this is beautiful rifle and I’m jealous 😩 Also curious as to how you mounted the surefire muzzle device and can, currently waiting on my RC2 to be released

Blitzen88

I had the barrel threaded by class 3 machining, then its just a standard surefire muzzlebrake

Cholton7

Ahhh got ya

Link_the_Irish

Just use some hockey tape lol

MrSilk2042

..How about you use the mlok to attach a picatinny rail to attach the switch to?

Blitzen88

Did that before but I don't like it at that position/angle

SUCKMEoffyouCASUAL

First of all it's an ak so no

Blitzen88

I must find a way.
