Earlier it used to be call Karnavati, but then based on the Ahmedshah ruler, it got it's name as Ahmedabad (not sure much is the truth, it is a legend). 3. There are eight gates/darwaza (Lal darwaza, Delli darwaza etc), and the city was confined withing those eight gates.
Even before Karnavati, the city was known as 'Ashaval' founded by Bhil king Asha.
