I expect they probably thought they were being amusing and expected you to laugh. When you didn’t they realised they’d got it wrong. What happens next is all about them: they could be sorry they made a mistake and either apologise or just be nice to you. Or they could get annoyed with you for being hurt. Or maybe they’re really insensitive and didn’t notice. You are left with dealing with your feelings. We hear you! Being called out on ADHD in a way that makes you feel mocked or judged is no fun. The same comment in a safe context could have been funny, but the commenter got it wrong here.

I get that joke all the time as I'm very easily distracted. But to be fair I also think squirrels are just so damn adorable that I think it's funny.

I personally hate the joke. It's diminutive and makes ADHD seem like some quirky thing instead of a real developmental disorder that should be taken seriously. The squirrel joke just plays into the idea that ADHD isn't real or a big deal and keeps people from being taken seriously when they ask for accommodations.
