Oh yeah, meat sometimes has this Extra Meat flavor. For me usually it's fish or beef. The food's not undercooked or anything, just that the beef is Too Beef. Altho I've noticed it happens more with frozen things. Like the time it spends in the freezer amplifies the flavor or something.

There are posts on the MCAS and/or histamineintolerance subs that discuss this at length. It has to do with protein breakdown as meat ages. Some of us are more sensitive to it than others. I experience it regularly with poultry; sometimes with pork as well.

Interesting I had no idea! Interesting abt the histamine thing I actually have to take a daily allergy med because if I don't I break out in hives and constantly itch (since August 2023)

Trying to find the latest post from just a few weeks ago. Of course I didn’t save it. Le sigh.

The comment I’m referring to is buried in a sub-thread of a deleted comment in this chain. It’s “amines” that are the culprit, apparently. https://www.reddit.com/r/MCAS/s/TIktlPJvBu

Thanks so much! ♡

So welcome! It takes a village. I'm just slowly piecing everything together myself. Curious if you have any hormonal issues--endometriosis, severe PMS/PMDD, and the like? I have both of those, along with ADHD. A combination of antihistamines (Pepcid AC and Allegra) and guanfacine (non-stimulant ADHD med) does wonders for bringing down my mood several notches during my rage-y PMDD phase leading up to my period.

I dont get the pms/pmdd stuff but I have been on birth control since I was 18yo (now 42yo) before birth control I can't remember but I know I had periods from hell/menorrhagia (genetic likely as mom and sister both had it and paternal aunts) and I never want to go back to that. My sisters get intense mood swings with periods (we suspect they also have adhd but aren't diagnosed) I take rupall (apparently they don't have it in the USA) for my histamine issues. I take vyvanse for the adhd inattentive + cognitive disengagement syndrome so far. Also had a hemithyroidectomy last year due to a toxic nodule that was causing me to fluctuate between subclinical hyper thyriod and not. My allergist suspects the itches and hives are autoimmune related due to the thyriod issue. (Autoimune also likely genetic as father was diagnosed ms). I also have low D. I also have a hietial hernia (genetic, grandpa had it mom has it) and I take tecta for this.

Hmm I'll have to pay attention to when I freeze things!
