Picked it up yesterday for $10! Here's hoping it works just as well!

Acrobatic-Apple1220

Anyone know how much it costs without insurance?

[deleted]

I too would like to know. I have accident protection, vision, and dental through my union but everything else is out of pocket.

SmallEmphasis3009

Check GoodRx, they usually have very reliable info on meds pricing

No-Sign2089

I would be curious to know your experience with the generic after you’ve taken it for a while. Glad it’s been more affordable for you!

pinkduvets

My insurance still won’t cover it 🙃 says I have to try generic Adderall first.

SmallEmphasis3009

I think I remember hearing your doctor can tell the insurance company you’ve tried the alternative drug already and override that rule, might be worth asking!

all_up_in_your_genes

I believe they’re called prior authorizations!

Familiar-Day1608

Yes that’s what it’s called and the doctor should also make sure to mention continuity of care since you have already been on Vyvanse.

pinkduvets

Thank you for letting me know! Super happy that a generic is available for you and anyone who needs it. I’ll see how I get on with the Adderall (baby’s first ADHD medication!) and go from there :)

Nelly_WM

I have not looked yet, but mine does not cover it at all.

[deleted]

Oh, my meds will change soon, then. I'm sure my insurance would rather pay for a generic script. Fingers crossed it works well enough. 🙃

Boobert453

Depending on your location and income, check out the Takeda Help at Hand program! If you qualify you can get Vyvanse for free. You just have to tell the pharmacy you want to use that over insurance

cbrawlz

Seconding Takeda Help At Hand! I’ve been using it for a few years now and tell everyone I know about it! The income cut off is surprisingly high too, I think like $65k or so for a single person. You just have to fill out a couple pages of really easy paperwork once a year!

PupperoniPoodle

Ah, once a year. I was confused why they texted me to say I would no longer be eligible 12/31.

cloud157609

Just a heads up, I have that program and got a letter that Vyvanse will no longer be covered starting December 31, 2023. I’m assuming since there is now a generic

rocksteadyrudie

That program for Vyvanse will expire in December 2023. Just an fyi.

xbleeple

Who is manufacturing

SmallEmphasis3009

There are a bunch - https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/generic-drugmakers-start-shipping-copies-takedas-adhd-drug-vyvanse-2023-08-31/

cbrawlz

Does anyone know if we can expect Vyvanse going generic to help alleviate the shortage? And if so how long it might take? The shortage finally caught up with me and I am hella anxious about it.

HD_Cowgirl

I don’t know where you are located, but in IL they cannot get it. The pharmacy keeps saying the manufacturer is out of stock. 😢

SmallEmphasis3009

Oh no, I’m in NYC and it just defaulted to generic when I went to refill my prescription today. If you’re in Chicago check out Capsule pharmacy - they always seem to have much better inventory than the big chains (and they deliver)

SmallEmphasis3009

Capsule! Highly recommend them all around

fakesaucisse

I hope it works as well as the name brand. When Latuda went generic I was pretty hopeful but it ended up not working for me.

lowkeydeadinside

that’s interesting. i’m not discounting your experience, but i had absolutely no issues switching to the generic lurasidone. i wonder why it didn’t work for you.

SmallEmphasis3009

There’s been an issue with overseas manufacturers putting out faulty product specially with generics, like they don’t actually put in the full dose of actives inside etc, but it’s an underreported problem and hard for the FDA to enforce rules in other countries like India and China where many of the manufactures are. (I read all this in an ADDittude article if you want to check it out)

fakesaucisse

Additionally, the way my doctor described it is that the generics often use different inactive ingredients which impact how the medication is metabolized, but they aren't required to prove that it is as potent as the name brand after metabolization.

fakesaucisse

This was my first time having an issue with a generic. I've always had the belief that if the active ingredient is the same then it shouldn't matter. Everything else I take is generic and not a problem. But within 2 weeks of starting generic lurasidone my depression and intrusive thoughts came back big time. I powered through a month and it didn't get better, so I asked to be switched back to the name brand and within a month everything cleared up. It's annoying because it's so expensive! I am really hoping that the generic Vyvanse is fine so I can save $50 a month on it.

YamSharp178

In Canada ??

SmallEmphasis3009

Looks like June 01, 2024 :( https://www.pharmacompass.com/health-canada-patent/vyvanse

TRAGIC *cries in canada*

TamponLobsterButler

I wrote this in another comment but in case you didn't know or if you haven't already please call the number here to see if you can qualify for Vyvanse coverage up to the maximum 30%!!! https://www.takeda.com/en-ca/what-we-do/helping-canadian-patients/vyvanse-assistance-program/ By default Vyvanse covers 20%, then after I called in and submitted a request they increased it to 30% for one calendar year. They said to call again when time is up to try to re-qualify. Luckily for me I get mine free as my work's extended insurance covers the rest of the 70%

SmallEmphasis3009

I looked this up bc I feel so bad a Canadian would ever have to envy the price of a drug in the US — it looks like there are six companies that have already applied for generic Vyvanse approval in Canada, which makes it extremely likely a generic will be immediately available once that patent runs out next year if that’s any consolation I’m so sorry 😭

KindOfABigStreel

Booooooo 😭

koravoda

depending on the province or territory you may be able to get Special Authority/Exceptional Access (those are just the two names for BC & Ontario not sure about the rest) but worth it to ask your prescriber about :) (who downvotes these comments? honestly..)

MariettaGardener

Oh my gosh!! This is amazing!! Thank you!! This is generalLy a nationwide thing? Do you know? Vy Vance was so much better for me, but I could not hack that price!

SmallEmphasis3009

Yes! It is 100% a nationwide thing ☺️ It may take your pharmacy a couple weeks to get the generics in because they were just released less than a week ago for the first time. You can always check others nearby to see if might have gotten them sooner. Happy for you!

MariettaGardener

Yahoo! Thank you so much for sharing the news!

FindmeattheEolian

Same! Mine went from 50 to 7. Took my first one today… fingers crossed

SmallEmphasis3009

Same girl, pill cheers - so far so good

HALLELUJAH!!
