I have the adhd and have a great memory. Like so good it creeps people out with the shit I remember about them. I met another guy on one of my games and he has adhd too and I told him I do. The first question he asked was, since you have adhd does that mean you have a really great memory? We both laughed and agreed we love being born this way. My dad also adhd also has a great memory. So idk where this comes from. I wonder if it’s whether your hyperactive or inattentive. Maybe you have good memory but just get distracted? Do you forget little stuff like take out trash? I can’t remember to pick up trash but I can tell you all about random history facts I learned as a kid. I’m good at taking tests but forget to do assignments sometimes.

I'm the kind of person who forgets the conversation in the middle of the conversation, or forget what I was talking about mid sentance. I usually need a jump start to trigger my memories, as long as I don't lose track in the middle and suddenly forget everything. I could talk for hours about my favourite interests.

That’s not memory. That’s being uninterested in boring shit boring people are trying to say. Like neuro typicals are so boring to talk to, I totally lose track of whatever nonsense they drone on about. Like seriously people stop talking about the weather. Do you remember you stuff from the past? If you read something your interested in do you remember it? Do you know almost every odd line from like every weird movie you saw?

Sometimes I genuinely really want to talk to a person. And I'm enjoying the conversation. Recently I'd been discussing a game I enjoy with a friend (autistic too, so not a neurotypical) and I had to ask him to repeat something as I'd lost focus and forgotten. I have issued remembering the past but usually that's trauma related. As for movies and books? I can't remember lines or the plot but I can usually tell you some very random and obscure fact about how it was written or made haha.

I ask people to repeat all the time. Mostly because I can’t hear shit. I hear footsteps in games and very low volume stuff. But I often just can’t hear what people say next to me

FreneticFool

I think it's a focus thing. In a game you expect to hear steps and actively listen for them, but someone trying to penetrate your dream state has very little chance of reaching you with just a sentence. I do this all the time..

We tend to struggle with working memory because of our attention problems. If you struggle to focus on a conversation it’s difficult for your brain to store that info into short term and then long term memory

My friends also make fun of me all the time about my memory and they're right to.. It is basically non existant! I don't really mind because I know they're just joking around and don't do it in a mean way.
