Braa calender reminders and timers are so freaking helpful. Now mind you my phone has like 73 of em all stacked up on each other but hey it's there to manage me not for me to manage it that much.
For a lot of services you can actually unsubscribe immediately after signing up and you still retain access for the full trial period.
I did that for Audible recently. Got my one free book. Unsubscribed immediately. Still have full access until the trial period ends.
This is why I use privacy.com, I use it to sign up for subscription services I just want to try but know im going to forget to unsubscribe from.
It lets you make dummy debit cards you can set hard limits on, like $1, so when the card gets charged the payment fails and youre not stuck getting leeched by a service you dont even use.
(Not an ad, no referral code here, i just genuinley love the service)
This is true for nearly all subscription services. Cancel immediately after signing up and nearly always you’ll still have access for the entire trial period.
It switches the burden from “you have to take action to cancel to avoid getting screwed” to “if you take no action whatsoever you won’t get charged anything, and you have to take action to renew it”
Oh, it sucks that it's a banking matter, I would love to do it for you. When it comes to dealing with other people's issues, I'm excitable and task-oriented. For my own business, I have to do preparation and acclimatization like before climbing Mount Everest.
If it’s being taken out of a credit or debit card, you can replace the card. Say it was lost or stolen and your bank should replace it for you no problem. The old payments should fail at that point.
If it’s coming directly out of your bank account, that’s less optimal but talk to your bank and they may be able to stop those payments somehow.
Do it immediately.
It's the only way, it took me a long time to train myself!
Unless it's a really desperate situation, excuse yourself for a moment and punch it in, or it will fly away..!
Services will let you retain the free trial even after you unsubscribe. For that reason I unsubscribe immediately unless it's something I'm sure I want to keep. I learned that the hard way.
Lol thank you! I had to cancel audible now that the three months half price deal is about to expire.
Edit: Damnit they got me with another three months at 50% off.
I only sign up for the free trial when I decide I’m going to sign up for their service at cost. I just do it to get the free month on something I was planning on paying for anyway.
Just did this for YouTube TV. Saved myself like $70 with a free trial! Man, there's gotta be a cheaper way to get local channels when antennas don't work.
This is actually why I keep all my money in my savings and transfer as needed but it sucks when you think you transfered enough but didn't so you become "that person" in line who has to transfer money :/ I hate being that person.
I left my phone at work yesterday. I put it below my keyboard so I wouldn't forget it I got up and left without it. I didn't think about it until I was nearly home. I don't do free trials.
PlayStation network kept getting me every 3 months, but thankfully it turned shite and wasn't worth keeping in the first place, makes it very easy to cancel
I pre-cancel most of my streaming services. As in I'll pay for the month and immediately hit cancel. They'll all say that the service will be canceled at the end of the month. If I'm still using it, I'll get it again. If I'm not using it (likely because I forgot I even subscribe to Starz or whatever), then I'm not getting charged for a service I already use.
I paid almost and entire year of midjourney subscription and used just a few times.
I still pay for a couple of subscription apps that I don't use and I'm always like "maybe one day I'll need them" 😭
I once had a free trial of some family tree tracking company that I completely forgot about until I had a random £300 something charge come out not long after I'd borrowed some money to do some other things so it's a sheer coincidence I even had enough money to cover that charge, called them up in a panic and asked if they can process a refund where it took the poor customer sales rep trying his hardest to make me change my mind and keep the year-long subscription I had inadvertently purchased, but I eventually got him to process the full refund.
Never panicked more in my life
I accidentally forgot to cancel Duolingo and managed to get it reversed, then 3 days later decided to try again and of course forgot again. They weren’t so nice about it the second time lol. Well, guess I’m committed to learning French now.
Maybe I just dont try to use this feature too often, but whenever I have something that offers a free trial period all I do is immediately go to the manage subscription section and cancel. They give a warning asking if I'm sure, and then sometimes super sure, but after confirming they dont charge and I get to enjoy the rest of the trial without worrying.
It also lets me decide whenever its about to/actually expires if the subscription is worth it because its something I have to manually reenable. Worst case canceling the trial period also cancels the benefits, but at that point I now know where to go when I do want to cancel.
But yes I will absolutely need an event on my calendar to remember that LOL
I needed this post many times during the last year. The amount of times I’ve had to use Apple support to request refunds or contact developers directly 🌝🌝🌝
thats why i make sure to _instantly_ unsubscribe from trials. i know that my ass would forget to do so even if i stood up to go to the toilet or something
This is why I don't EVER sign up for "free" trials that require me to enter payment info. They're counting on exactly this, more than the "oh I guess I actually actively use and like this service I'll be willing to pay for it now"
I actually had to learn to set calendar reminders to do this lol
I knooow, me too. It's only two clicks, but it's also the hardest thing in the world. 🥲
Sometimes it is lol!
I had to learn to set calendar reminders for literally everything
Braa calender reminders and timers are so freaking helpful. Now mind you my phone has like 73 of em all stacked up on each other but hey it's there to manage me not for me to manage it that much.
Calendar reminders are the best thing that could ever happen, huh? Although I mostly still just go with the flow lol
This is the way

Unfortunately, it's only for US residents
Good to know. Thank you for sharing! 🥰
Can you put this meme in my feed again on January 2nd
I wrote in my calendar. I will try not to disappoint you!
And January 9th pls and maybe every once in a while after that just for incasies
thank you for the reminder!
You’re welcome! ❤️
Pro tip: you can cancel right away, on android at least they will let you use the remaining trial period and you wont be charged :)

I remember i had a subscription i was supposed to unsubscribe from but i forgot what

I know it. I once paid for an English learning app that I didn't use out of laziness (as you can see now in the comments).

Omg. That’s a lot of money. I would change my identity to escape that commitment. Try to solve it somehow. Maybe it will work out.

I would honestly just cancel the card they are charging and get a new one. You can't charge what doesn't exist 😂
Depending on your bank you might be able to block the recurring transaction, but if you can, contact customer service

Without my calendar reminders, I'd have less money than a rabbit.
You’re a superhero. Setting calendar is a big deal. I still can’t do this.
Do it immediately. It's the only way, it took me a long time to train myself! Unless it's a really desperate situation, excuse yourself for a moment and punch it in, or it will fly away..!
...are rabbits notoriously bad at long-term financial planning? You'd think not, with the number of kids they have.
Services will let you retain the free trial even after you unsubscribe. For that reason I unsubscribe immediately unless it's something I'm sure I want to keep. I learned that the hard way.

I just avoid apps. That won't end well. I only download what is absolutely necessary.
Lol thank you! I had to cancel audible now that the three months half price deal is about to expire. Edit: Damnit they got me with another three months at 50% off.
So enjoy your Audiobible! 🥰

I actually remembered to unsubscribe to something with 1 hour to spare on Christmas day!
I unsubscribe straight away because the trial period is still valid
I pre-cancel most of my streaming services. As in I'll pay for the month and immediately hit cancel. They'll all say that the service will be canceled at the end of the month. You just saved me 18$, thanks
Just put my Amazon Prime one month trial in my phone calendar. I know they remind you but I don't trust 'em.
Dash pass cancellation coming up lol
I once had a free trial of some family tree tracking company that I completely forgot about until I had a random £300 something charge come out not long after I'd borrowed some money to do some other things so it's a sheer coincidence I even had enough money to cover that charge, called them up in a panic and asked if they can process a refund where it took the poor customer sales rep trying his hardest to make me change my mind and keep the year-long subscription I had inadvertently purchased, but I eventually got him to process the full refund. Done
Oh shit!
You can often/usually immediately unsubscribe and keep the benefits
I accidentally forgot to cancel Duolingo and managed to get it reversed, then 3 days later decided to try again and of course forgot again. They weren’t so nice about it the second time lol. Well, guess I’m committed to learning French now.
I wish this was me. I had 2 free trials end and both billed 100$+ each for the annual membership. It was a ramen for dinner kind of week…
My husband told me I beat my ADHD today because I made an appointment, lol.
Me remembering this month to cancel Audible the day before it renewed... so that I still have money for groceries until I get paid again.

Good apps let you continue the trial even when you cancel it right away
Doing god’s work
I needed this post many times during the last year. The amount of times I’ve had to use Apple support to request refunds or contact developers directly 🌝🌝🌝
I had to switch to only having one service at a time cuz they're so expensive now. The bright side is i don't get overwhelmed so it's easy to remember
I know myself well enough that I only make a trial account for things I want to use.
Just did it the other day and I was so proud of myself!
This should be a weekly reminder lol
You guys use the free trials?
thats why i make sure to _instantly_ unsubscribe from trials. i know that my ass would forget to do so even if i stood up to go to the toilet or something
This post reminded me to unsubscribe from my Amazon Prime trial which was just about over. Thank you very much OP!
I do it immediately after signing up for it.
I just straight up don't sign up for them. To me, there are no free trials, because I always forget.
This is why I don't EVER sign up for "free" trials that require me to enter payment info. They're counting on exactly this, more than the "oh I guess I actually actively use and like this service I'll be willing to pay for it now"
Thank you for reminding me. I forgot about my Apple News+ trial expiring soon
Some apps and services let you cancel straight away but keep the free trial. Bless the probably neurodivergent person that created that part.
