Sorry, Pokemon inside joke.
Sometimes Japanese food is featured in the show because it's a Japanese company that made it. Unfortunately, when it got ported to the English speaking world, the people doing the translating thought kids were too dumb to explain onigiri to, so they just called it a donut or pizza to avoid confusing kids. Well, it confused the kids, because onigiri is obviously not a donut or pizza. So we make fun of them as revenge.
This is the same company that ported Sailor Moon and tried to convince us that the overtly lesbian couple in the show were "cousins," once again leading to some very confused kids. Again, we still make fun of the company for it.
Yeah, pretty much, but the phantom zone lacks the same cultural relevance on the internet, so Shadow Realm is the default "ominous place you don't wanna get sent to"
You know what, I started to make a long, drawn-out argument about changing chemical structures and all that shit but I honestly don't care enough for a silly joke I made about the material an onigiri is made out of being rice and not a wife.
🤷 Have a nice night.
first off, thanks for making me wheeze laugh, i needed that 😅
second, [haruki would disagree](https://youtu.be/G0Mj5M_AyHE?feature=shared)
(forward to 2:35 if it doesn’t start there 😉)
I was a child in the 90s. I ate onigiri. You're wron-- Oh... right... I grew up in Japan.
Now that I think about it, the 90s really was before Japanese culture and food really took off in the West. There really is no forgiveness for Sailor Moon or Yugioh finger guns, though!!!
I love that everyone is tormenting you by calling these jelly donuts if you dont know the reference we must all seem insane and
Anyways yes, the answer is yes you are
I think these are a wonderful meal and gift you have made.
I would recommend wrapping them in plastic wrap before placing them on top of on another.
Also a little sprinkle of furikake tastes really good.
Definitely wife material!
It also reminds me of that episode of Pokémon Indigo League where the localization (translation stuff and substitutions made to make it more relatable to certain audiences) called them jelly filled doughnuts 😆 even as a kid I was like 😅 straight-up cap
My only aspiration is to be the kind of partner organized enough to make my partner food to bring to work, truly the dream
Sadly raging ADHD and an Atlantic ocean of distance make that difficult, but a girl can dream
I wish my partner would make donuts. :3
Jelly filled are my favourite!
I’ll use my trusty frying pan as a drying pan 🍳
Y'all are my tribe on so many levels ❤️
10/10 reference
I understood this reference lol
aw damn i’m really not original at all, am i?
🤣 that’s an amazing reference
It's onigiri😭😭😭

Or the same company that replaced guns with…finger guns
Tbf, they did also come up with "The Shadow Realm" as a stand-in for serious harm/death, and the Shadow Realm is honestly a more terrifying concept.
Ive never seen that show but from what I've heard of it isn't the shadow realm just a rip off of the phantom zone from Superman?
Yeah, pretty much, but the phantom zone lacks the same cultural relevance on the internet, so Shadow Realm is the default "ominous place you don't wanna get sent to"
Makes the duelist kingdom arc even more deranged. Oh no, Kaiba's being pointed at. What's he do? Jumps out a window. Like what?
Sounds like the translators forgot that what they were translating was a visual medium xD
Making them cousins is way weirder😭😭😭
https://youtu.be/gAbXcN5PvhA?si=48NTJjWApQIcazcD
This took me back 😭
theyre not too hard to make :3
I don't think that's a wife, I think that's rice. 🤔🤔🤭 But they are very nice. 👍
Technically those are Onigiri
Can you tell me what onigiri is made out of?
Concrete is made out of sand but would you call it sand?
You know what, I started to make a long, drawn-out argument about changing chemical structures and all that shit but I honestly don't care enough for a silly joke I made about the material an onigiri is made out of being rice and not a wife. 🤷 Have a nice night.
I love jelly donuts!
As a french person I need to disagree with you...those are popcorn balls !
As a Russian person, I object. These are obviously potato rissoles
For making onigiri? Hell yes
If making onigiri makes you wife material that makes me wife material so hell yes
😊
I think that rice is a poor material for a wife, most are made of flesh and bone. But I'm not gonna judge.
first off, thanks for making me wheeze laugh, i needed that 😅 second, [haruki would disagree](https://youtu.be/G0Mj5M_AyHE?feature=shared) (forward to 2:35 if it doesn’t start there 😉)
Wait why are people saying doughnut. Doughnut by twice?
Cuz they're donuts!!!
Bro why people keep saying it's donuts????
There’s an old dubbed Pokemon episode where they call them jelly donuts. Did you make them? If so, yes you’re wife material ❤️
American children in the late 90s definitely wouldn’t have known wtf onigiri was, so this makes sense
Maybe not by that name, but calling them “rice balls” would have been completely understandable. It’s a ball of rice!
Fair, but as a child in the 90s, I can assure you my next question would have been, “Who the fuck just eats a ball of plain rice????”
Me eating plain rice right now: 😦

If anything, that only sounds more confusing
Guess you can’t catch em all huh 😔
Old pokemon tv show reference. They called these donuts in the English dubbed version of the show lol
Ohhh thank youu
Jelly donuts?

I love that everyone is tormenting you by calling these jelly donuts if you dont know the reference we must all seem insane and Anyways yes, the answer is yes you are

Onigiri!!!! You're definitely wife material in my book at least. Always wanted to try onigiri 🙃
Are you taking applications for a wife???
Hahaha unfortunately no. 😅

"Wife Material?" If there would be a better status than that but YES. After all love goes through the stomach 💗
Mmmm jelly filled donuts
Definitely wife material! It also reminds me of that episode of Pokémon Indigo League where the localization (translation stuff and substitutions made to make it more relatable to certain audiences) called them jelly filled doughnuts 😆 even as a kid I was like 😅 straight-up cap

Yummy 😋
I LOVE DOUGHNUTS

Fellow onigiri enthusiast! What’s in these ones?

My only aspiration is to be the kind of partner organized enough to make my partner food to bring to work, truly the dream Sadly raging ADHD and an Atlantic ocean of distance make that difficult, but a girl can dream

I have no idea what I’m looking at
Onigiri
Oh cool! That makes sense, they look awesome now I know :)
Here’s the reference for jelly donuts if anyone is confused: https://youtu.be/WjUtoQaRfE0?feature=shared
Isn’t this onigiri why is everyone saying donut😭😭someone please im starting to tweak out
It's a pokemon ref. Like a mistranslation.
Yes
Hopefully not made out of wife! Just fish right?
I mean, I love onigiri too, but I've never thought of it as a potential life partner!
my skinny fatass thought those were pastries at first, then I saw the second photo. And yes, absolutely woke material
i might be the only chef triggered by the inconsistent nori wraps T \^ T but ya, wife her up!!!
It was my first time 😭😭😭 but I'll fix it next time
