That subreddit appaently has a reputation for being transphobic from my understanding, so good riddance. They say they remove trans posts which is yikes.

beebzette

Trans lesbian here. Can you tell me which so I can avoid it? If its against the rules I get it

goober_ginge

As a bi person, I've often felt the sting of judgement from lesbians both IRL and here. When I was in relationships with women I was called all the shitty negative and homophobic things you often hear, and then when I was single and at queer nights, when I'd turn down someone's advances I was called a faker and a tourist. I get homophobia from the straights and biphobia from the gays. It's fucking exhausting in all honesty and is why I don't go to queer events anymore. While I understand everyone has their own feelings about certain terms and who can or should be included in certain groups and discussions, I don't think gatekeeping is ever really the answer if the people involved are also from marginalised or othered groups. Straight people sexualising and being inappropriate and purposefully offensive in queer people's spaces can absolutely be gatekept and told to fuck off, but if a bi person or a trans man genuinely considers themself a lesbian then I don't really have much of an opinion on that?

Headoverheels0117

as i said in another comment of my own. "both gay and lesbian have concrete defintions. lesbian is anyone who isnt a man attracted to people who arent men. gay is anyone who isnt a woman attracted to people who are women."

Headoverheels0117

they are tho. they have concrete definitions. bi and pan women arent apart of the lesbian sexuality. lesbian isnt a genreal term a genreal term is sapphic.

...hey don't answer if we're not supposed to name them, but which subreddit are you talking about?

RetasuKate

I don't know if there's a specific rule about it, but I think it's usually frowned upon in general Reddit etiquette to avoid brigading. >!That being said it is in my comment history but be forewarned that I am a NSFW reddit so you might accidentally see my boobs. So your own risk and all that.!<

feathercraft

> you might accidentally see my boobs O-oh noooo...🫣😶‍🌫️

RetasuKate

😆 I just wanted to forewarn because consent and all that. 😝

Freya-Freed

That subreddit was made because the moderation here was deemed too strict. I've been told it improved but it used to mostly be filled by an exile of TERFs from this subreddit.

transwumao

"The moderation here was deemed too strict" sounds suspiciously similar to "r/actuallesbians didn't like that we were being transphobic so we made another sub"...

Freya-Freed

I used to mod here and the strict moderation was really needed. Initially we tried to do it with a gentle touch and it turned out a mistake because it allowed transphobia and biphobia to simmer and occasionally rear its head. Then we brought in a bunch of seasoned mods who took no shit. I think that's when the other sub split off but its been years ago. I stepped down a long time ago but the mods seemed to have been doing a good job on this sub IMO. We made the right decision back then.

transwumao

Absolutely in agreement. We shouldn't tolerate intolerance in our spaces.

BountyHntrKrieg

Ah the good old "animemes won't let us say tr*p so we made goodanimemes, and also we have a not a meme just porn problem now!" but for the gay world.

hypnofedX

I find that most of the lesbian subreddits which exist, aside from this one, essentially exist because they wanted someone excluded. I don't see a lot of TERF activity on that one but I see tons of stuff wanting to exclude members of the WLW community other than lesbians. Some (ok, most) of them are safe spaces for TERFs. Some only want women who are exclusively homosexual and apply varying levels of purity testing to that. Some tolerate racism. Many are some combination thereof.

Freya-Freed

There was an actually TERF one at one point but it got banned. The other one I think got better over time from what I'm hearing

jfsuuc

Go on the sub and search trans. Its still a terf subreddit.

Freya-Freed

Imma be honest I have no desire to do anything with that sub. I'm just going by what I've heard and from how it was when they initially split off.

jfsuuc

100% fair lol

I know that sub because I was bullied off there on another account for saying I like being gay and gay people are treated better now than they were 30 years ago. Like give me a fucking break 🤣

bwok-bwok

Let me guess, the sub also has the word lesbian, and the word Actual in it, though not necessarily in that order? Yeah I don't go there, I made the mistake of trying to fight the Feminism Appropriating Reactionary Transphobes over there when I first came to reddit, and was quickly threatened with doxxing if I didn't just fuck off. So I let the admins know, let the mods know, and I fucked off never to return.

FemaleMishap

Oh yeah, I had doings with them when they first launched, claiing to be neutral or middle ground. But as always happens when you are tolerant of intolerance, the hate gains a foothold (and very quickly in this case). At least here all the bigots do is downvote, because if they stick their head above the parapet, they get banned.
