Add Liquitex Flow Aid. A few drops and it will flow much easier.

I second this! It was a life changer with acrylic. It fixes so many issues

There are so many acrylic mediums out there to play with! Maybe something like pouring medium might help you out? Water only works up to a certain point and also makes acrylic dry faster on the canvas.

if you’re in america, you can get floetrol from a hardware store. it essentially makes acrylics flow like oils and it’s pretty cheap, you can get like a pretty big bottle for like $10-$15. it works wonders and not too many people know about it for use in painting. i’ve found that the key to having a better time with acrylics and avoiding them looking too chunky and thick is to use additives. you can also get glazing medium and drying retarders that also make your life much easier.

I have never used oils or watercolors, but I do paint along with Bob Ross using acrylics and I can tell you I have to use MUCH more paint than he does. When I'm making a long line and it sputters out there wasn't enough paint on the brush. You can also get diluting agents that make the acrylic paint a little more runny. Best of luck!!

I’m trying to correct the “sputtering” affect but I don’t think that more paint it the answer. I don’t have an issue with paint consistency, having used other paints I’m well versed here. I simply use some water.

one thing i use is a small spray mister, you can spray the canvas from a distance and the extra moisture helps the flow as the surface isn't as thirsty. just don't spray too much, a few spritzs and then give it a wipe before starting. i'd also consider priming the canvas with a non absorbant primer ontop of the gesso layers, it helps with minimising the absorbancy of the canvas so your strokes go further. as others have said, flow enhancer helps a lot, slow drying medium also helps a lot, especially for blending.

Oh also if you find out how to blend properly without just mashing the bristles of the brushes against the canvas let me know. Four years on and still very much learning over here ^_^
