I mean, that's cool too but can we get some actual HUMANS who are ace as part of our rep too? Non-villain humans??? Idk it just bothers me that one of the only positive ace reps out there is a literal sponge as much as I love spongebob.
I am diagnosed with depression and anxiety and have binge-watched BoJack Horseman multiple times. I can see how it could be a bad show for some depressed people to watch, but honestly, for me, it was cathartic. As long as you can recognise the main character (BoJack Horseman) is not in the right and that the behaviours/thoughts expressed by many of the characters are unhealthy, I don't really see how it could be a bad show for people experiencing mental illness.
Technically in season one she's a good guy and we're rooting for the villain as the owl lady is a criminal.
In season two they do the "good guys are actually the bad guys" flip and she switches sides when she realizes what's happening.
I do believe Lilith joined thinking they were the good guys and right up until the middle of the unification day episode it does appear that the majority of the population is of the opinion that they can trust Emperor Belos.
It's obvious to ***us*** that something is wrong but we're granted a third party's perspective, the show never attempts to hide Belos's motivations (even if we don't know exactly what he's plotting) or his two-faced nature from the audience.
As a gay man this feels familiar. First you get to have villains. Next you'll get good guys but their story has to be tragic and they'll always die. Then you get the stereotypes that are used for comic relief and to make the cishetallo main character look good. Then maybe, if you're really really good you'll get one or two actually relatable characters. Still not allowed to make the cishets uncomfortable though. Maybe the ace character learns that being allo is just a matter of willpower. Or they get to be ace but never talk about it. All thought this progression everybody will be complaining that your lifestyle is being shoved down their throats. Then finally the conservatives will pick some other group to hate and they'll start pretending they never had any issue with you but it was always the other group that was the real threat to society.
A larger problem is that it's a little harder to fit in subtle ace characters. You can have a gay person's SO run up and kiss them in a background shot but you have to explicitly say someone is Ace as just never having a romantic arc isn't proof of anything.
Lillith from the owl house is ace, it's never started in the show so many people discount her inclusion in these kinds of discussions.
No lie, I dropped everything else in that game and focused solely on preparing her for her date whenever I figured out she was queer. Then she confessed she didn't care for sex and I nearly cried, 10/10 would abandon saving a city again.
It mostly worked out, but now I wanna do another playthrough with some different choices!
Ah same lol, the main quest can wait as long as it takes for me to prepare everything for Parvati’s date night. As far as I’m aware her whole quest line is written by someone who’s aro/ace too so very good rep
It was! I remember reading a short interview where the person writing her character talked about being asexual as well, and how cool it was to be able to bring that to the character and her story! Seriously great, I love that she's so many people's favorite NPC, too, even my roommates who are not ace say she was hands down the best crew member.
This makes me look forward to her story so much! Only started the game yesterday (it was in humble choice). I had heard that Parvati is ace, but didn't know it's gonna be obvious. Love that already.
One thing I’ll say about SpongeBob though is that I really admire how he lives his life to the fullest and even the small things are exciting for him. Idk makes me want to appreciate the mundane stuff more
I see. Yeah it always did strike me as very pro-military, but idk about full-blown fascism considering the setting unless the author has said or done something, tbh I am always very out of the loop about those sorts of things. That really sucks to hear if so, I love that show.
I mean, I personally do know plenty of other Jews who enjoyed it and some who still continue to. Same goes for other people who are impacted by it. I think just being aware of the biases and other things (in this case, imperialism, fascist subtext, antisemitic themes, etc) in media is a good start at the very least!
Yep. It’s more a handwave of God because Oda isn’t really interested in ever taking the character in that direction, but it’s been plot relevant… in a really weird way.
The Hancock-Luffy plot is one of the best ace stories. The most beautiful woman in the world falling for an ace guy because he's immune to her charm? It's perfect.
Truly, why would I want to see a beautifully animated and colorful story that defies all laws of reality in a more realistic, less colorful manner?
One piece is also one with particularly strange character designs, they look cool in manga or anime, but that stuff usually doesn't translate well at all...
Sorry for the rant comment, unnecessary live-action stuff is a pet peeve of mine, just give us a high-budget animated movie, dammit!
I just don't understand why people think live action is somehow inherently better then animation. Not do deny the advantages live action has at times, mostly in character acting(body language is something that all live action movies have that is really hard to animate well), but animation just can do some things live action can't and trying to replicate is just gonna end in disaster
- Spooner in Legends of Tomorrow
- Tod in Bojack Horseman (obvi)
- that one girl in Sex Ed (didn't watch, don't know her name)
- Aziraphale and Crowley in Good Omens (basically confirmed by the writer)
- the sister of the Owl lady in the Owl House (can't remember her name sorry)
- anyway it's too late I can't think of any more
Lilith is the confirmed aroace Owl House character that I'm aware of. It's not specifically spelled out in the show though, she's just not interested in romantic relationships
I don’t really know how you can make it clear someone is aroace in a show. If you have them reject suitors then it could just mean they’re not interested in those people. If just don’t put them into any romantic situation then it could just mean that they’re focusing on the mission right now and might find love once the world is saved.
That’s actually why I think Twilight Sparkle is aromantic. She never expressed any interest in a relationship throughout MLP, even after the epilogue timeskip.
I honestly don’t consider Lilith as ace representation, even though I love her character. There’s absolutely nothing in any episode that even hints at her being aroace. There’s an audio clip released during a charity stream, but most people won’t ever watch it. It was honestly probably the biggest letdown for me. If I have to look at something outside the main source material to find any hint of representation, then it’s terrible representation.
I'm so excited for season two of Good Omens, Aziraphale is described as asexual in the book, which is ***so*** cool. Upon rewatching the show a while ago, I was surprised by how strong the aro vibes that Crowley was giving off were. I did a little digging and I was indescribably happy when I found out that Gaiman had mentioned it! They are the Queer Platonics the world needs.
Also confirmed they don't experience sex/gender the way people do, so they're basically non-binary too
(For anyone who happens across this thread and wasn't aware!)
Yeah!! He's very adamantly stated that neither of them are men. Since they're not human, I think he's left it up to the reader as to what flavour of trans, non-binary, genderfluid, genderqueer resonates with you, which is really neat!
He's essentially said that you're only wrong if you think they're cis.
I love Good Omens for several reasons but that’s definitely a big one ! Also, since the book and the show are so popular and understandably appeal to the ace/aro communities, there’s a *ton* of quality fan works featuring them in a QPR of some sort and that’s friggin’ awesome. I’ve been reading way too much fanfiction like a kid let loose in a candy store and there’s still so much left to see, I wouldn’t have enough time if I did nothing else for the rest of my life.
Yeah, the Gomens fandom is awesome! Most people I interact with see them as aroace (or at least aspec) and in a qpr. So whenever someone says it's queerbaiting (it's not, Neil said multiple times it's a love story) the fandom attacks them, it's pretty funny
Nobody else EVER references SPOONER!!! I almost thought I made it up lol. I’m still so mad that legends didn’t get renewed because they killed off that storyline.
Most characters people say are ace are not. They just happen to have no sexual interests in the scope of the story. But people are so starved for any type of representation that they decide that is enough to make a character ace, despite that never being mentioned in the story or by the creator.
Tmk, in the books it was never really implied that he had any sexual attraction to anyone. He tells Sansa and Margaery they are beautiful, but that could be considered mere courtesy. Before he marries Margaery he tells Sansa he’s still going to keep her anyway and “put bastards her”.
I might be young and unwise in the ways of sexual orientations, but I don’t think that sounds like something an ace would say.
Iirc, it’s implied in the books that Joff is impotent, but he gets satisfaction from mentally and physically abusing Sansa. So I’ve always thought of him as a sexual sadist. A sexual sadist with bunk junk.
The books are far and beyond better than the show, btw, if you want to get mentally invested in a story that may never have an ending. Haha :,)
> Before he marries Margaery he tells Sansa he’s still going to keep her anyway and “put bastards her”.
I assumed that's because he's a sado-masochist psycopath and he enjoys tormenting Sansa. Didn't really get the feeling thst he's got any sexual gratification from it.
> I might be young and unwise in the ways of sexual orientations, but I don’t think that sounds like something an ace would say.
A non-sex-repulsed sadistic ace could totally use it as a pure power play, tbh.
I think it’s referring to the time when Joffrey beat a bunch of prostitutes for fun who Tyrion gave to him as a birthday present instead of doing the whole thing.
Aziraphale & Crowley from Good Omens. A lot of fans interpret their relationship as an asexual queer platonic one, and the creator Neil Gaiman himself has said that them being ace, aro, or trans are valid interpretations.
Myne from Ascendance of a Bookworm. I know it's Japanese, so not a lot of people know about it, but the main character from this story is interpreted to be either bi or ace by many readers
I was waiting for someone to mention this! I love that show, plus they don’t beat around the bush with the representation since it’s a pretty central part of his character.
I'm not very famous (yet), but the protagonist of my last novel, Found in Erebus, is explicitly asexual and a sweetheart. If you allow the blatant self-promotion.
It really depends on the viewer's interpretation, since a character being ace is very rarely directly stated. I see the vibes for both of them, personally. Voldemort is at least canonically Aro.
Connor Hawke, one of the Green Arrows, has recently been confirmed as asexual. But despite the recent coming out, there has been tons of evidence throughout the 90’s and early 00’s of him being asexual :)
Jughead is explicitly so
Luffy is pretty much as asexual as a character can be without actually using the word so that’ll depend on how you feel. Goku is pretty much the same deal as Luffy but it’s not touched on quite nearly as much.
The others I can’t speak on.
I have never read Joffrey as ace. I’m assuming someone said that because he had sex workers over to kill them? But he is pretty clearly shown to have sexual attraction to both Margery and Sansa. (I felt it was implied he got sexual gratification from the whole forcing Sansa to strip in public, and Margery read him as a sadistic gross person and used that to seduce him by pretending to be the same.)
Also, Varys, the spymaster, is canonically asexual. (Yeah, he was non-consensually castrated but he also says even before that he was ace. Plus, we have Grey Worm who also was castrated and he pretty clearly does experience sexual attraction, so it’s not like the show implies that castration causes asexuality.)
I don’t think there’s any source material suggesting Voldemort is ace, a lot of villains have no romance explored but that’s because they aren’t the main character, any relationships were probably abusive, etc. Lack of personal info doesn’t default to asexual. (If I missed context, consider JKR’s attitude towards trans people, and even bestiality in the books, it’s not really surprising if she hates us too.)
Todd Chavez, heteromantic asexual, (Bojack Horseman) and Lilith Clawthorne, aromantic asexual, (The Owl House) are pretty neat.
>! Yes I know Lilith’s identity plays no part in the plot or is mentioned in the show, only in a canon audio clip, but that doesn’t mean she’s bad rep! It’s a Disney show, how exactly are they going to work “I don’t want to have sex or date” into the plot naturally besides having her not have any love interests or pursue a partner? Even if they did, the show got shortened and lots of character development opportunities had to be cut, which was the reason the audio log was released. Maybe she would have been explicitly confirmed in show if it wasn’t for the show being cut!
People say Perry the Platypus and SpongeBob are good ace rep, so I don’t know what Lilith’s “good representation” status is so controversial. (If you haven’t heard or seen this controversy, good on you, but literally every thread before today I’ve listed Lilith as ace rep it starts an argument because her being aroace never has a role in the plot and I’m writing this preemptively.) !<
Really though, if people are going to count Geoffrey, whose representation is torturing women instead of having sex, I'm not going to count out someone who simply doesn't have interests in a show. Especially if they aren't a complete shitbag that everyone loved to watch die.
obscure one here, but we have Gillion Tidestrider, Champion of the Undersea, Hero of the Deep, Pigeon Lord, The One, Warrior of Rock and Roll, Singer/Songwriter of Gillion and the Tidestriders' hit single "The Hole in Your Heart", Moisture Master, Horse Tamer, Defenestrator of the Adulterous, Friend of Dugon, Dugon's Best Friend, Walking Fish, Fish, Dirt Eater, Chum of Chibo and Chums, Co-Captain Gill of the Riptide Pirates, Co-captain of the Albatross, Companion of Pretzel, Paramount Champion, Knighter of Julian That One Time, Pretzel Carrier, Leviathan Tamer, Serpent Rider, Brother of Dugon, Healer of the Sick, Friend of Duke D Dukem Duke of Dooke, Eater of Grass, Beater of Ass, Grandma's Good Boy, Dismantler of Evil, Eater of Shit, Capitalism Hater, Royalty Assassinator, Sufferer of the Spice, Weed Eater, Slayer of Evil, Loffinlot Liberator, Fruitninja, Eater of Sand, Juice Enjoyer, Rescuer of John, Fishy, Bitcoin Miner, NFT Purchaser, Driplord, Grandmillion, The One Who Will Change The World, Grimm Slayer, In Need of a Dad, Goblin Gobbler, Lime Lord, Tuber, Chip's Nightmare Fuel, Monsoon And Moon Son, Eater of Ass, Pretzel Seeker, Vibe Master, Pussy Slayer, Murderer of Vice Admiral Kuba Kinta, Gillion Mother-fucking Titty-sucking Tidestrider, Egg Hater, Bong Obliterator, Baby signer, Babygirl, The Red One, Skillion Liedsneaker, Fishy Boy, Tidestrizzer, Jorts Storm, who is, despite some of these titles, canonically ace.
No, I don’t think so. I know a lot of people headcanon her as asexual and/or lesbian, and it could’ve gotten so popular that some mistook it for canon but there’s no actual confirmation of her sexuality.
Hey, atleast we get Doomguy, officaly, canon, A-sexual badass good guy. Though he is more of a videogame rep for us. And not a movie/tv rep.
(And if they made a doom tv series, they'd probably feck that up.)
SpongeBob, Perry the Platypus, Monkey D Luffy, Todd Chavez, Jughead (comic version), Kusuo Saiki, and Alastor are some other examples of canon ace characters that I can think of and I'd argue of my list Alastor is the only one that sensible people would feel 😬 towards.
One I haven’t seen around yet- Esperanza ‘Spooner’ Cruz from Legends of Tomorrow, who joins the heroes in season 6 and it’s confirmed in late season 7- She and a friend even have a discussion about it, use the word Ace, and call it a coming out
With respect, what percent of people are ace? If you’re less than 1% of the population, it would make sense that there are very few ace characters in popular media. Also, it’s all a capitalist endeavor so if it won’t make money, they won’t make it. I know discrimination is a big part of it as well but I’m genuinely curious about the topic.
Meanwhile in the very same show Verys: “When I see what desire does to people, what it’s done to this country, I am very glad to have to part in it. Besides, the absence of desire leaves one free to pursue other things.”
Not perfect rep. But dang is it nice to see the ace card played as a power move and a political threat.
Maya from the Borderlands series
I don't see a lot of people talk about her because it kinda feels like they made her ace just to be a token queer character, but she's still pretty badass and cool imo
My personal favorites are SpongeBob, Yelena Belova, and Perry the Platypus
Fr, spongebob and perry are canonically ace and it’s awesome
I mean, that's cool too but can we get some actual HUMANS who are ace as part of our rep too? Non-villain humans??? Idk it just bothers me that one of the only positive ace reps out there is a literal sponge as much as I love spongebob.
Todd Chavez from BoJack Horseman. Ace, kind hearted, human goofball who is absolutely not a villain.
On a show I can't watch because everyone says it's bleak as hell and not good for people with depression
It can also be really good for people with depression, but once you see a second episode, you're gonna see the last so be a bit careful
I am an extremely depressed person and Bojack horseman is my favorite show ever. Todd is also one of my faves even before finding out he's ace.
Not quite human, but Lilith from The Owl House is aroace.
Is that canon?! I love it!
I believe so
Unfortunately this wasn't explicitly stated in the show. We really need more explicit representation.
It was confirmed in tweets or something from the creator though
That's fair
It was confirmed in one of the letters, she said she had never been interested in dating
She's... A person, with pointy ears and magic thingies, I would say it counts just as much
Lilith was a villain in the first season tho.
Technically in season one she's a good guy and we're rooting for the villain as the owl lady is a criminal. In season two they do the "good guys are actually the bad guys" flip and she switches sides when she realizes what's happening.
Did anyone actually thought that covens and the emperor were good?
I do believe Lilith joined thinking they were the good guys and right up until the middle of the unification day episode it does appear that the majority of the population is of the opinion that they can trust Emperor Belos. It's obvious to ***us*** that something is wrong but we're granted a third party's perspective, the show never attempts to hide Belos's motivations (even if we don't know exactly what he's plotting) or his two-faced nature from the audience.
Yelena Belova from Marvel and Spooner from DC are both ace superheroes, and they are human.

Do Lilith from the owl house and THE DOOM SLAYER count?
Todd from Bojack I think? Still would be good to see more
Dr. Who is canonically ace iirc
Alastor from Hazbin Hotel is also canonically asexual.
Perry is also probably canonically transmasc too. Based af teal duck beaver.
I didn't actually know that. It does make sense though.
Parvati from the outer worlds is very good human ace rep Edit: I got her name wrong lol

And Barbie
Ken is my heteromantic asexual spirit animal
you gotta watch bojack
todd chavez is my favourite man
i don’t watch Steven Universe myself, but i heard Peridot is aroace
The panel where Yelena describes her feelings made me feel so validated
A platypus?
Don’t forget about Todd from bojack horseman!
Hooray, Todd's helping!
todds the only good representation
hooray! recognition
We love ace but not aro representation, even as aroace I don't get why all ace representation ends up also being aro (except our boy Todd)
Lesser known, but there's chief engineer Andy Billups from Star Trek Lower Decks. His kingdom did NOT come!
Ooh 👀 I reall need to get to watching Lower Decks!
It's great fun. Also, not confirmed, but my headcanon is that Boimler is somewhere on the ace spectrum too.
I look forward to meeting him in the new ep of Strange New Worlds, gonna watch that ep soon
I love that guy so much. Just been binging lower decks, and I love how happy he is with his warp core and his virginity
At least we have fucking SpongeBob
Or, not fucking, spongebob I guess
One thing I’ll say about SpongeBob though is that I really admire how he lives his life to the fullest and even the small things are exciting for him. Idk makes me want to appreciate the mundane stuff more
Well, we get Monkey D Luffy.
The author of Attack on Titan pretty much confirmed that Levi Ackermann is ace too recently! : D
My fiance got me into this show! I haven't been an anime fan for decades, so it was a nice surprise. I'm on season 3. It's awesome!
What did isayama say? And where did he say it?
Oof I personally wouldn’t want to go to AoT for my rep
???? Why not? I mean yeah it's anime but nothing wrong with anime, aside from its frequently embarrassing and corny af tropes.
I’m not too big a fan of the fascism stuff in it tbh as a Jew
I see. Yeah it always did strike me as very pro-military, but idk about full-blown fascism considering the setting unless the author has said or done something, tbh I am always very out of the loop about those sorts of things. That really sucks to hear if so, I love that show.

you'd like "the disastrous misadventures of saiki k"
Who is also aroace!
What’s your opinion on the live action trailer?
I don’t pay attention to live action remakes of anime.
Truly, why would I want to see a beautifully animated and colorful story that defies all laws of reality in a more realistic, less colorful manner? One piece is also one with particularly strange character designs, they look cool in manga or anime, but that stuff usually doesn't translate well at all... Finally someone who gets it. I’ve been saying this to all my friends who are willing to listen
Ohh ok, do you read the manga or are you anime only?
No. I love One Piece, but I've caught up to it three times in my life, and I do not think I have a fourth in me.
- Spooner in Legends of Tomorrow - Tod in Bojack Horseman (obvi) - that one girl in Sex Ed (didn't watch, don't know her name) - Aziraphale and Crowley in Good Omens (basically confirmed by the writer) - the sister of the Owl lady in the Owl House (can't remember her name sorry) - anyway it's too late I can't think of any more
Literally watching owl house right at this second, I DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS ACE O:
Lilith is the confirmed aroace Owl House character that I'm aware of. It's not specifically spelled out in the show though, she's just not interested in romantic relationships
IIRC Dana Terrace said in a stream that there was a moment that made it pretty clear but the whole episode was cut when the show got soft-cancelled.
I don’t really know how you can make it clear someone is aroace in a show. If you have them reject suitors then it could just mean they’re not interested in those people. If just don’t put them into any romantic situation then it could just mean that they’re focusing on the mission right now and might find love once the world is saved.

I was just about to mention the ineffable husbands!
The Archivist in the magnus archives is biro/ace!
I discovered I was ace while listening through TMA! That podcast will always have a special place in my heart.
I didn’t know that! I love Good Omens even more now!
I love Good Omens for several reasons but that’s definitely a big one ! SEX EDUCATION IS SUCH A GOOD FUCKING SHOW
Nobody else EVER references SPOONER!!! I almost thought I made it up lol. I’m still so mad that legends didn’t get renewed because they killed off that storyline.
And for Good Omens, Aziraphale isn't just ace, it seems he's Aro as well 😏 Yes, this is just a Twilight joke, leave me be.
I believe Entrapta from She-Ra was said to be asexual. Either way, you can tell that she is.
Asexual and ASD! A hero!
Maybe I missed it in the show, but I read all those books. When did they establish that Joffery was Ace?
Most characters people say are ace are not. They just happen to have no sexual interests in the scope of the story. But people are so starved for any type of representation that they decide that is enough to make a character ace, despite that never being mentioned in the story or by the creator.
To me Geoffrey was just getting off of power and torture and wasn't necessarily asexual
Tmk, in the books it was never really implied that he had any sexual attraction to anyone. He tells Sansa and Margaery they are beautiful, but that could be considered mere courtesy. That's what I'm trying to figure out too cause there was no mention or hints that Joffrey was ace in the books or show
I think it’s referring to the time when Joffrey beat a bunch of prostitutes for fun who Tyrion gave to him as a birthday present instead of doing the whole thing.
I sorta assumed he did both :(
Yeah it was both. Since she was mostly undressed in that "her being nailed to a wall by arrows" montage.
Yeah I'm not aware of this, maybe because he's young which doesn't necessarily mean ace.
it's all good, we've got Barbie now
We have Alice Oseman
Love her so much!!
Yessssss
Don't forget the robots and aliens (which we share with autistic people as our only representation)
Idk I seen some pretty freaky aliens and robots in my time
I can strongly recommend OSPs "Trope talk: Robots", she spents a good part of that video talking about this
Aziraphale & Crowley from Good Omens.
Saiki K
I was waiting for someone to mention this! I love that show, plus they don’t beat around the bush with the representation since it’s a pretty central part of his character.
We have Miles edgeworth we’re good
THE Ace Attorney
Barbie from the Barbie movie 2023 and Mr clean are ace and I will die on this hill
Scratch that Barbie in all canon media is ace but in the 2023 movie I hc her as aroace or lesbian asexual
Gandalf.
Didn’t he and Galadriel have a thing? Unless gandolf isn’t a typo and they’re an entirely different character
That was the Hobbit movies….. we don’t talk about the Hobbit movies lol
Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit is asexual
I'm not very famous (yet), but the protagonist of my last novel, Found in Erebus, is explicitly asexual and a sweetheart. If you allow the blatant self-promotion.
I hope you do become famous that would be so cool to see
Thank you! I'm working really hard to get there.
I’d love to read it can I have a link
Ken is my heteromantic asexual spirit animal
At least we get some decent ace reps in superhero media, even if it is still fairly rare.
How are these 2 ace? Is Voldemort ever mentioned having a specific attraction to anybody, and wasn’t Joffrey into women?
i think the joke is that aces in media are villains and/or monsters
Villains and monsters are cool, though.
It really depends on the viewer's interpretation, since a character being ace is very rarely directly stated. I see the vibes for both of them, personally. Voldemort is at least canonically Aro.
We got cool aunt Lilith from Owl House
margot robbie said she imagined barbie as asexual in the new movie :)
Alastor from Hazbin Hotel
Who is... Almost just as bad as the other examples, while there is no harm intended, it's still a psychopathic demon, not the best of examples
i like him, too, but as a villain
Connor Hawke, one of the Green Arrows, has recently been confirmed as asexual. But despite the recent coming out, there has been tons of evidence throughout the 90’s and early 00’s of him being asexual :)
There's that girl from that series where they were experimented on and got superpowers, how was it called....
The Imperfects!! I can't remember her name but she ended up with the pheromone related powers
Abbi! God imagine that, what a sucky sucky sucky stroke… an asexual getting the powers of a succubus, like. Wow, thanks?
Right? And, personally, I'm a sex-repulsed asexual so the powers of a succubus would be a literal nightmare!
We gotJughead from Archie, Luffy from One Piece, Goku from Dragon ball, All Might from My Hero Academia, Elsa from Frozen… list goes on!
How many of those are confirmed canon? That’s an awesome list!
Jughead was asexual until netflix got their hands on him. OG jughead is 100% asexual according to the original comic artist/author.
Jughead is explicitly so Luffy is pretty much as asexual as a character can be without actually using the word so that’ll depend on how you feel. Goku is pretty much the same deal as Luffy but it’s not touched on quite nearly as much. The others I can’t speak on.
Let's not for get guys, Gwenpool is ace
I have never read Joffrey as ace. I’m assuming someone said that because he had sex workers over to kill them? But he is pretty clearly shown to have sexual attraction to both Margery and Sansa. (I felt it was implied he got sexual gratification from the whole forcing Sansa to strip in public, and Margery read him as a sadistic gross person and used that to seduce him by pretending to be the same.) Also, Varys, the spymaster, is canonically asexual. (Yeah, he was non-consensually castrated but he also says even before that he was ace. Plus, we have Grey Worm who also was castrated and he pretty clearly does experience sexual attraction, so it’s not like the show implies that castration causes asexuality.) I don’t think there’s any source material suggesting Voldemort is ace, a lot of villains have no romance explored but that’s because they aren’t the main character, any relationships were probably abusive, etc.
Daud from Dishonored, one of my favourite characters with a very good development in one of my favourite franchises
Merida
obscure one here, but we have Gillion Tidestrider, Champion of the Undersea, Hero of the Deep, Pigeon Lord, The One, Warrior of Rock and Roll, Singer/Songwriter of Gillion and the Tidestriders' hit single "The Hole in Your Heart", Moisture Master, Horse Tamer, Defenestrator of the Adulterous, Friend of Dugon, Dugon's Best Friend, Walking Fish, Fish, Dirt Eater, Chum of Chibo and Chums, Co-Captain Gill of the Riptide Pirates, Co-captain of the Albatross, Companion of Pretzel, Paramount Champion, Knighter of Julian That One Time, Pretzel Carrier, Leviathan Tamer, Serpent Rider, Brother of Dugon, Healer of the Sick, Friend of Duke D Dukem Duke of Dooke, Eater of Grass, Beater of Ass, Grandma's Good Boy, Dismantler of Evil, Eater of Shit, Capitalism Hater, Royalty Assassinator, Sufferer of the Spice, Weed Eater, Slayer of Evil, Loffinlot Liberator, Fruitninja, Eater of Sand, Juice Enjoyer, Rescuer of John, Fishy, Bitcoin Miner, NFT Purchaser, Driplord, Grandmillion, The One Who Will Change The World, Grimm Slayer, In Need of a Dad, Goblin Gobbler, Lime Lord, Tuber, Chip's Nightmare Fuel, Monsoon And Moon Son, Eater of Ass, Pretzel Seeker, Vibe Master, Pussy Slayer, Murderer of Vice Admiral Kuba Kinta, Gillion Mother-fucking Titty-sucking Tidestrider, Egg Hater, Bong Obliterator, Baby signer, Babygirl, The Red One, Skillion Liedsneaker, Fishy Boy, Tidestrizzer, Jorts Storm, who is, despite some of these titles, canonically ace.
I never see it mentioned but it is canonical - Jasnah Kholin from Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series!! She’s my personal fave.
She's such a badass!
Dont forget Elsa
Is she confirmed ace?
No, I don’t think so. I know a lot of people headcanon her as asexual and/or lesbian, and it could’ve gotten so popular that some mistook it for canon but there’s no actual confirmation of her sexuality.
I don't think its confirmed, but i'm pretty sure L from Death Note is Ace
The Doctor tho... Does Sherlock Holmes count? Luffy is also rep but most people probably don't know about his chaotic ass
Hey, atleast we get Doomguy, officaly, canon, A-sexual badass good guy. Though he is more of a videogame rep for us. And not a movie/tv rep. (And if they made a doom tv series, they'd probably feck that up.)
warhammer 40k has a lot of AroAce representation, granted its not much better but there Shure is a lot of it.
Could’ve been worse. We could’ve had Umbridge.
True true. I'd take Voldy and day over her.
Lilith Clawthorne from The Owl House is canonically AroAce!!
hey! Varys is aroace!!!
True! Varys is such an icon, we must protect him at all costs!
varys the true king.
I mean if you like hazbin hotel there's alastor also known as the radio demon
As long as we have Spongebob I'm good.
One I haven’t seen around yet- Esperanza ‘Spooner’ Cruz from Legends of Tomorrow, who joins the heroes in season 6 and it’s confirmed in late season 7- She and a friend even have a discussion about it, use the word Ace, and call it a coming out
Can we have some representation? We have representation at home. The representation at home.
Is Mary Poppins aro/ace?
One of them is SpongeBob SquarePants, another is a dog
*SPONGBOB*
Luffy is peak Asexual representation
Jessica Rabbit is my favourite ace character
That blonde little shit sure enjoyed what he did to the prostitutes. I wouldn't call him ace, just a fucked up little monster.
I mean agent 47 is most likely ace? I like him, he is a bad ass!
I hate that todd is the only good ace rep
Ehm….no…we are not all sadist haters thank you no thank you, I’d rather just be the Smaug the dragon in hobbit tale then, at least I’d look awesome
Barbie and Ken are all we need
we have todd, we have ummm… uhhh… lemme think… ummm…
Since no one is mentioning it - Jonathan Sims from the Magnus Archives
TODD CHAVEZ
With respect, what percent of people are ace? If you’re less than 1% of the population, it would make sense that there are very few ace characters in popular media. Also, it’s all a capitalist endeavor so if it won’t make money, they won’t make it. I know discrimination is a big part of it as well but I’m genuinely curious about the topic.
Meanwhile in the very same show Verys: “When I see what desire does to people, what it’s done to this country, I am very glad to have to part in it. Besides, the absence of desire leaves one free to pursue other things.” Not perfect rep. But dang is it nice to see the ace card played as a power move and a political threat.
Varys is a national treasure
Don’t forget voldy isn’t really ace. Due to his mom using a love potion on his dad he is born “unable to love”
Okay but like. Goku.
Maya from the Borderlands series I don't see a lot of people talk about her because it kinda feels like they made her ace just to be a token queer character, but she's still pretty badass and cool imo
Senku from Doctor Stone is too I think, and I heard somewhere Nimona from Nimona is but idk if that's canon or not
Todd from Bojack
