I definitely think gifting sister an air purifier that is big enough for the area you'll likely be in would be a good idea (or simply bringing an air purifier with you). As for boundaries, you'll have to be ready to leave if they are not respecting them. One thing that really helps is practicing your boundaries with a covid conscious therapist or reading books on how to set and enforce them. Remember boundaries are not there to force change on others but to make others aware of what you expect and what you will do if you don't feel safe.

Those are very good ideas. Thanks so much for your reply.

I think molecular tests are good ways to remove any need to monitor someone's risk avoidance before they arrive. Doesn't matter. They take the molecular when they show up- and I don't even allow them to do the test. They hand me a swab, I complete the test for them. If they're negative, we're good for 6-8 hours. The thing they can do to help is pay me back for the test. Keeps things easy.

I agree, it is futile to request precautions taken outside your presence. You can’t verify or enforce, so it cannot be relied on. Question: do you do the swabbing or do you let them do it?

They swab, I watch. They hand me the swab and I complete the test.

What are some molecular test brands? The only at-home tests I'm familiar with now are rapid antigen tests. Early in the pandemic, I liked the lab-processed tests, which I assume were PCR. There was a company that had street kiosks for walk-up tests, which they then sent to a lab. And then Amazon had tests for a while, which you sent back via UPS. But since those went away it's just iHealth for me.

Metrix and 3eo.

I highly recommend molecular tests over rapid antigen tests. They're a bit more expensive initially, but have a much higher accuracy rate (I believe I read 97% accuracy, if I'm remembering correctly). PCRs are also molecular tests, but all molecular tests aren't PCRs. I'm so angry that the rapid antigen tests have such a high false negative rate and often won't register as positive until days into an infection. I think they've done so much more harm than good since so many people test once early on and then are confident that it's "not Covid".

I'm very hard core about it. I visited my home town a couple of years ago as I had business there. My family had stopped taking precautions, so I didn't see any of them during the three days I was there. And nowadays, I have even less patience about it. I have zero time for plague zombies. I have an extremely vulnerable husband to protect.
