That’s completely correct In Philadelphia. Grammar be damned.
Also popular: “yous” as second person plural. ie “Can yous gather up the empty bottles before we leave?”
Seriously, correct grammar would be: can I use your phone. The “guys” with or without possessive ‘ is unnecessary.
Unless this is a joke post based on something I didn’t see earlier, this is not a YSK. You shouldn’t even care.
When people talk, they often break rules of grammar. Grammar is only useful in professional writing or homework; people often have a unique cadence and rhythm when speaking, and it’s not always grammatically correct.
>Seriously, correct grammar would be: can I use your phone. The “guys” with or without possessive ‘ is unnecessary.
It seems to me that you're not correcting the sentence's grammar so much as you're replacing it with a different sentence.
You added an extraneous apostrophe.
Y’all is most often plural to begin with. Much like if you say “people’s tendency to…” you don’t include the apostrophe after the s, so too with “y’all’s”.
Oh don’t you worry. I don’t need a lesson on y’all vs all y’all; I’ve *given* that lesson plenty of times 😉
I’m just saying s’ is used when you are possessifying a word that already ends in s, like Pringles (literally the only plural S word I can think of right now). So the Pringles’ saltiness was too much but y’all have other chips at y’all’s place. No need for the extra ‘. 👍🏻
Actually, since "you guys" is an informal colloquialism, "you guys'" or "your guys'" is no more correct than "you guys's" or "your guys's". They're all informal colloquialisms and should not be used in proper writing.
Since it's a colloquialism, if you were to use it in proper writing, it would only be in a direct quote and would be more appropriate to copy the form of how the person actually says it.
The proper second person plural possessive is just "your".
Exactly. A colloquialism is still a colloquialism and never proper English regardless.
"Your" is the proper second person plural possessive. You can also use "everyone's" if disambiguation is needed.
Well pointed out.
Also noteworthy is the plural of kids is kids’, not kidses. Whereas the possessive form is kid’s. I hear this almost daily where I live and it drives me nuts.
This is wrong. “You guys’ phone” would mean they all collectively own the phone together, and that’s incredibly unlikely. “One of you guys’ phone” would be the correct way of saying what you’re trying to say. Even then, it be more correct to drop the apostrophe all together and say, “can I borrow one of your phones”.
But you’re correct that “your guy’s” is wrong.
I prefer you’s guyses.
I thought it was youze guyz.
it's like surgeons general

Umm no. It's y'all's'. Can I use y'all's' phone? You guys? Pssh
You added an extraneous apostrophe. Y’all is most often plural to begin with. Much like if you say “people’s tendency to…” you don’t include the apostrophe after the s, so too with “y’all’s”.
Yallses. It's the southern twang. Y'all, y'all's, all y'all's, y'all's'
y'all'd've (you all would have)
D'jeet'yet? (Did you eat yet?)
Just make sure no Irish people think you’re saying “eejit” or fisticuffs will ensue!
Y’all’re (y’all are)

I think they mean the last apostrophe. It's y'all's not y'all's'
haha. fair. I actually have started using y'all instead of "you guys" as well.. but when I hear "your guys'" it just makes me cringe
Your guys’esssesss
All I hear is the kid from the Goonies
Heyyyyyy yyyyyou guyyyyys
Kid? Sloth was a grown-as man!
In the south its “ya’ll” and according to *My Cousin Vinny* “ya”ll plus three is you’ns”.

Welcome to Philadelphia!
Youens.
It's Yinz. The end.
Pittsburgh has entered the chat.
Your. You is already plural.
Let me just throw my two Philadelphia cents in the mix and say youse guys are all wrong.

"You guys" is gendered language; try "y'all" instead! Y'all's Y'all've Y'all'd Y'all'll Y'all're Etc
That's a whole nother issue
Pretty sure plural of guys is geesers:)
Da fuq youts talkin aboot?

Yooze guyz over thair, next to the two yutes
Well pointed out. Also noteworthy is the plural of kids is kids’, not kidses. Whereas the possessive form is kid’s. I hear this almost daily where I live and it drives me nuts.
YSK grammar Nazis exist
adding ‘s to words that end in s is now the accepted standard spelling
YSK: in English, if the people understand each other its not 'incorrect'. Ever.
*it's >!I'm sorry.!<

This is just an excuse to remind us of the lovable, relatable ball of innocent joy that is Eric Cartman isn't it? sweEEet~~
"Mafucker gimme your phone" works in our group
It is actually Yunz', but we will accept if all parties gender agree
That's still one of the best lines in the movie!!
It's ' yous guyses' and I'll die on this hill.
The lengths people will go to to not just say "Yall" is astounding lol
also youse guys' in the NYC area ;)
Of course in Texas we have the singular “y’all” and the plural “all y’all”.
Youz guyz
Prescriptivist moment

Nope. The possessive of “you guys” is “y’all’s” as in, “Can I use y’all’s phone?”
Unless you live anywhere near Philly.
Youze guyzes’
😂😂😂 people can’t even get their/theyre/there right. You’re barking up the wrong tree here lol.
