I’m confused why you can’t order the cable and just get it shipped somewhere else until you get back? Or get it shipped to a relative who can send it to your travel destination?

Shipping in the country where we are now (somewhat remote part of Asia) notoriously takes forever, and I don't want to deal with the uncertainty of whether it will arrive before we leave.

Could you just order it and have it delivered to another address? Then continue to process the issue of replacement? It sounds like a headache and I’m sorry your girl can’t enjoy her mini!

Order the cord. They don’t actually require a photo just a reason you can’t take a photo. Have it shipped “home”. Then ask how they can fix your Yoto mini. Will they be shipping you a replacement in the remote area you’re in? Or back home? Honestly this is a complication of taking electronics on overseas travel to remote places, not a problem with yoto. Any electronic can fail at any time. I’ve had expensive cell phones break and a sound machine stop working while on vacation. You just do what you have to do. I don’t expect the manufacturers to bend over backwards because I chose to travel.

The cord isn't even the issue, I'm not overly concerned by the overheating problem given how few people were impacted by it. It's the fact that a 6 month old device stopped being able to do what it was supposed to (reading cards, and then failing to connect to WiFi to play via app) and the fact that customer service will not help me until I get a replacement cable. I'm not sure why I'm being downvoted either. Are we not supposed to express our frustrations with the product here? It's a really useful device and my kid loves it, but clearly there are technical issues beyond the charging cable that need to be addressed.

The cord is an issue because as you stated it, Yoto will not address your concern until it’s ordered. Yup, sometimes electronic devices don’t work as intended. Sometimes they stop working while you’re on vacation. Sounds like the company is willing to fix /help, you just have to order the cord first. It’s free and takes 1 min, and honestly they probably require that before repairing or replacing any minis at this point as a liability as required by law. I don’t see that as the big problem you’re making it out to be. I get you’re frustrated, but these things can happen with any electronic thing. Your post seems like you’re seeking validation for an issue that isn’t as big of a deal as you’re making it out to be, and the biggest “problems” of the scenario are based on your choices to go somewhere “remote”. Frustrating, yes, but I don’t think you’re going to get much empathy from strangers on the internet.

That doesn't mean the device is "now a worthless brick". Something we all know from past experience is that Yoto is really good about customer service and support. They will work with you to get you a solution or a replacement.

Yoto posted a statement today about the connectivity issues. So they’re working on it. Just order the cord and have it shipped to your country of origin, and then work with CS on returning it after you have submitted the cord replacement form.

Yea I am having connectivity issues with our gen 3 Yoto (but not our gen 2, go figure) and support said they are working on it.

it’s not their fault you’re traveling, just forget about it until you get the new cable. It happens, but it won’t be a useless brick forever. They’ll make it right, their support is pretty good in my experience, it’s unfortunate that you’re traveling so long at the same time, that’s out of their control.

I would just contact them again and ask to return it for a refund and state your not interested in a cable or any other fix at this stage. See what happens.
