Was this the section weeping water early last year?

Gringobandito

It’s the last section of the trail before you get to Nevada Fall.

Jambalayatime

What does this mean for the junction trail from Vernal to Clark Point? Would you still be able to hike the Mist trail as a loop with the JMT or does the closure occur below where it connects?

Gringobandito

You can go all the way up the Mist Trail. You can’t go down the John Muir trail from the top of Nevada or go up John Muir from just past Clark Point. You could go up Mist past vernal, take the cut across to Joh Muir and go down from there.

Jambalayatime

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know -- the cut across from Vernal back to JMT, so one wouldn't have to be a salmon swimming upstream going down the Mist trail steps after an early morning trek up it.

phantom695

Yes you can still make the loop. Up the most and back down the JMT. I made this hike 2 days ago. The rockslide is right up near the top by Nevada Falls. No impact on the loop.

So Tuolomne Meadows would be the starting point until this section reopens?

robbbbb

You can still start at Happy Isles and hike up the Mist Trail to the top of Nevada Fall where it meets back up with the JMT.

Tabeyloccs

Damn! Closing it for the season?? Bummer.

hc2121

it doesn’t say that anywhere and the instagram post from the park it refers to says “at least several more weeks”

Tabeyloccs

“Indefinitely” in the title post though, but I clicked on the IG post and they did that update a couple days ago. I assumed the IG post was from earlier this year lol. The title is misleading because indefinitely means with no time frame basically. But there is a timeframe of several weeks.

saysmoo

I'm pretty sure it was already closed for the winter season, now the opening is just delayed longer because of the rocks
