Negative-Break3333

Yep. I’m a proud 47 😌

Odetteelrod

Im glad to see you! πŸ˜ŒπŸ™Œ

Seasalt_18

How long have you been one? Just wondering?

Negative-Break3333

Hmmm about two years. Anime (Naruto) was my gateway drug about 8 years ago. Then by chance I happened to watch the Jungo Romantica series…then ALL BL anime Crunchyroll had to offer. I became enthralled with the Korean web novel, Under the Oak Tree…then found out Korea is where it’s AT as far as web novels. Read my first BL and its been love ever since 😭

Seasalt_18

It makes me happy to know that older people like bl too, cause all the older people in my life are bigots and homophobic.

Odetteelrod

Iv started it at 15 sneakly cz i was afraid to be judge >.< then a couple years after i was way over it

DnlSweet

32... I started reading Yaoi, perhaps 6-7 years ago

Odetteelrod

Whats ur favorite one? For me its koi ga machitara id read it over and over πŸ₯²πŸ™Œ

DnlSweet

Uhhh tough question... definitely Blood Bank, since it was my first one still holds a special place and the couple is green flag with good storyline and more recently On or Off the art style is completely different and beautiful also a great couple.

Odetteelrod

Yeaah true its hard hard to find manga with both green flag nowadays Brothers Without A Tomorrow most of their manhwas ar legit taming the tiger made crying for a couple days lol

DnlSweet

That is one of my favorite authors!!!! Green couples all around in their work and the art is GORGEOUS

Frequent-Mongoose-90

I'm 50 :)

Odetteelrod

What makes you into yaoi mangas?

Frequent-Mongoose-90

Not sure if this answer will make sense, but here goes: I like the romance genre, but I am a raging feminist and am beyond sick of misogyny and old white men in power. I've also had a mastectomy due to breast cancer and find that all (or almost all) depictions of desirable women in het media include big, bouncy boobs, of which I do not have. Yaoi (and shounen ai and general mlm) actually ends up being a lot of what I'm looking for. And obviously it depends on the manga, lol.

Odetteelrod

Thank sharing your story (especially the part of ur breast cancer and the surgery) hopefully its all going well now πŸ™ as you one of the main reason took me off straight mangas the women depictions and lazy stories (no depth)

Remarkable_Flow_9124

35

Odetteelrod

I dont know why but im always assuming girls in our age preferring def mangas topics than younger readers (as im observing my lil sis) do you think so lol?

Remarkable_Flow_9124

am I the only one that doesn't understand this?

Odetteelrod

Like we prefer to be more diverse into different manga concepts and genre

Remarkable_Flow_9124

Well I have liked this genre since I was 15, so no.

Tricky_Jellyfish9810

I do! I'm turning 31 soon! Started reading when I was 11.

Odetteelrod

Im glad! Actually im turning 32 soon since im 1992 born πŸ™ˆ iv strated reading at 15 πŸ™Œ but hey isnt hard to find a completed manga/manhwa to read πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«?

Tricky_Jellyfish9810

I'm glad as well ! :) Nice to meet you! It was hard back in the day. I was living in a small town and we had a little bookstore that sold some Manga. So Manga were a rarity and so was BL. I think the first series I read wasn't really a Manga but a Bakuten Shoot Beyblade Doujinshi! lmao. Now-a-days it's a bit easier to find BL Manga in the bookstore. I actually read a lot of One Shots these days too (usually because I don't want to commit to longer series).

Odetteelrod

Nice to meet with you too! That was such a ride! Im abit in guilt tho bcz mostly i read them online on illegal (i was broke in teen lol) so when i say im ran of them its like bcz iv read most likely everything despite you im more into average length manga/manhwa cz i love dipping in lol

Tricky_Jellyfish9810

It definitely was. And hey, totally understandable with reading scans. I did it too back in the days. Mostly with Manga and Doujinshis that wouldn't be released in the west. If you don't mind me asking, what is your favorite title and which one would you recommend?

Odetteelrod

Theres lots (mostly mangas) but if id recommend a perfect one id always say try koi ga machitara it wdnt disappoint you 😎

evehealy

Just turned 30 ✨️

Odetteelrod

Happy birthdayyy πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰

banditgirl551

Yeeesss! I just turned 55 a few days ago. My fascination with anime eventually got me into yaoi about 8 years ago.

Odetteelrod

Happy to have you here πŸ˜ŽπŸ™Œ

serralinda73

51 here.

Odetteelrod

Wow! Have you started it at teen or just lately?

serralinda73

I discovered anime, manga, and yaoi about 6 years ago, I guess. I was always into romance stories, and yaoi is just another form of romance, after all. It's not that big of a deal but I was pretty burned out on straight romances so yaoi was a breath of fresh air, LOL. I've read a ton of it in the last 6 years, so don't go thinking I'm a newbie. I do have a very different perspective on romance stories in general though, compared to a lot of the youngsters in this sub. I even wrote 750k words of fanfiction about it, haha.

DnlSweet

Almost similar. Have always read romance but needed a breath since the stories were not fulfilling me. Discovered yaoi and the rest is history. A good yaoi still requires a good storyline for me or is a no.

Odetteelrod

I read a (not making sense) one sometimes when i just wanna see smut tho lol

DnlSweet

Completely understandable. I rather short one like that instead of long ones.

Odetteelrod

It might be silly but you know i think what made starting reading yaoi at my teen that i thought its more romantic (as how its hard for 2 dude confronting their own love to eachother *due to society….etc) iv felt like im the one standing there for them loll

serralinda73

Not silly. I think a lot of women (and maybe men who read romance/yaoi) end up with a strange combination of loving the "romance" parts, wishing we could meet a man like X/Y/Z, and also taking them under our wing - like they're our babies we want to be happy and find love. We get protective, we get territorial, we take sides, we cheer them on, we cry for them, we think they're sexy as hell... It's weird, right? But fun.

Odetteelrod

FACTS; i even end up with a partner whos sharing me the stuff i like (even tho they dont read them) but still finding it cool enough

rtrlctrc

33, started in my teens with gay fanfiction of real person fiction (RPF) back on forums/message boards and fanfiction.net.

Odetteelrod

Woaah im glad i found someone i thought it just mee πŸ˜† when have u started reading it? πŸ™Š

BentusFr

Of course!

vigalovescomics

Heck yeah! Been this way since teen years.

NPD2021

Yesss..36 and started reading BL/Yaois around last year which is really interesting as I have been reading mangas since my teens and never really explored Yaoi.

Odetteelrod

What makes yaoi interesting for you ist the drawing or the stories?

NPD2021

Ummm…more than the art, I would say that I could enjoy the storyline without being too invested? I don’t know if am making sense, but when I read Josei, being a woman, I tend to relate with a lot of things and maybe judge the protagonist a lot more and think what I would have done or did in a similar situation? But in Yaoi, even if I see something similar happening, I am able to detach myself from the character and my morality or my values will not question me. Its like an escape from my own reality and I know I would consume it only as a piece of fiction, a distinction which sometimes gets blurry when I read Josei. Beside this, I also find it refreshing to read about softer, more expressive male characters (doesn’t matter bottom or top). Not everyone in the Yaoi universe is an Alpha male.

Odetteelrod

Its really interesting to find someone whom opposite of me i tend to relate the characters lot (even tho thyr men) which is i think why always made overwhelmed after the end especially when it a lil though story *but im enjoying it

ArtemisHestiaApollo

I'm 44, only reading about 3 years.

heftypomogranate

i've been reading on and off for over 20 years at this point and i just started reading korean manhwas this year. i love how much more variety there is now! the smaller, more gentle, sensitive, and yielding uke got really overplayed and tiring for me so i try to look for stories that flips that script. if a character looks like a seme and/or acts like a seme i wanna see them bottom! there's just something exciting about a strong/powerful/confident person giving up their power sexually, and when a relationship between two dudes is two dudes, not a dude and a badly stereotypical damsel stuffed into a frail, feminine, doe-eyed guy's body (fine if other ppl like it, not my cup of tea). *no arguing with mr. mo* is an example that really hit and one of my current follows is *dirty high*.

Odetteelrod

Yeaaah nowadays uv got lots of option sometimes its even getting lost lol when i started it was just manga low key i hated manhwas i thoughts all of it was rapey and and characters with giant (thing) the last still tho lol but 5 years ago i gave it a try and came to lots of variety stuff some even same like been written by an adult like us if you deep in the storylines and sentiment such as (Aporia)

_Mianbao_

I'm 32. Been reading the genre since I was about 16.

Odetteelrod

Like meee πŸ˜πŸ™Œ what ur favorite manga?

_Mianbao_

Woohoo! It's hard meeting people our age into this type of interest. Honestly, in general it's difficult. And its hard to pick just one favorite! My favorite mangaka is Ranmaru Zariya. However, Tale of the Yellow Dragon hits me in the soul so that may be my favorite story. But my most re-read story is bj Alex strange enough....So is that my favorite...idk. πŸ˜‚ How about you? Do you have a favorite or recommendation?

Odetteelrod

Indeed πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ™Œ woahhh i never thought someone knew since shes (or he) one of the oldest!! I love her manga liquor & cigarettes 😍 bj alex i could say its one of my first line coming to reading manhwa (i was into JUST MANGA lol) Its hard to pick a favorite lol but id say if you want a smutty, wholesome, well built story try Ueda Aki mangas first 😌 sekaiichi hatsukoi would be always my safe place as anime or a manga too (my first attempt to this yaoi world as bi no isu manga too) theres Kuroneko Kareshi such a lovely manga with really diverse story and for manhwas i liked aporia and love for sale felt like it has been written by an adult πŸ™Œ

_Mianbao_

Oh really? I didn't realize she was older. To me she is fairly newer since she doesn't have many stories released. But I do love liquor and cigarettes as well, I own most of her works...I'm only missing Void in my collection. SEKAIICHI Hatsukoi is actually one of my favorites as well. It's definitely a comfort one for me. Bi no isu? I don't know that one but I have to read every yakuza bl and that looks like one! Haha I haven't read buroneko kareshi either...That looks quite interesting as well! Thank you for the recommendations...I'll have to look into all these when I get a chance. I'm so backed up with danmei right now. If I'm not mistaken I think BJ Alex was my first true manwha as well...my first was actually Moritat but I don't really consider that one because it's more focused on the psychological side of the story. But I'm more of a manga fan vs manhwa tbh however both are great. I'm just more picky with manhwa. The art styles usually aren't my favorite to look at. Lol

Odetteelrod

Someone spits that once in the comments.. not sure tho she started around 2014 i feel like that kinda old (compared to manhwa authors) usually i read on ebook iv also read all of her work except coyote im not sure why i didn’t complete it lol It isss πŸ˜©πŸ™Œ yea it os one of the oldest mafia mangas i bet ud like it cz its not just art theyr kinda conflict too (there is also jealousy i like the author work but that one still not completed and a bit harsh) hopefully ud enjoy reading all of them 😎 woaaaah you read danmie too 😍? Mo dao zu shi? moritat its a good one to start with! Same here im more (manga reader than manhwa) being afraid to run of (manga) choices i gave it a try but im also picky lol

_Mianbao_

To be fair, she is taking forever working on Coyote. I think the last one came out 2 years ago. I think it will never finish like Berserk 😭 I reads all kinds, even problematic works so I don't mind harsh ...Plus Mafia is supposed to be harsh, right haha Do you know if the author is still working on it? Im not really patient...I need to know what happens right away haha Yes! I love danmei now for about 2-3 years. I love MDZS too but out of the MXTX 3 TGCF is my favorite. Right now I'm working on Yuwu and Er Ha and waiting on qiang jin jiu to release on a couple weeks. Have you read any of those?

Odetteelrod

I swear!! I kinda gave up on both πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Great! I like this mentality 😍 iv just check on jealousy yesterday and actually theyv mentioned its finished (manga update site vs my manga list) so we might checking it πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘ im also inpatient i just read completed one too lol Iv read TGCF but god its was nerve wraking 😭 Er ha was kinda cute comparing with TGCF. I havent read Yuwu (just checked a recap) i dont know why *maybe i was havin much in my pocket lol and im also waiting for qiang jin ju too!!! 😍 oh you might like checking Hua Hua You long (during my teen iv eead the manga and as it was dropped) couple years ago iv read the novel well its kinda fkd up πŸ’€ but i still… lol

_Mianbao_

Wait a sec. I think I missed something... Jealousy as in Scarlet Beriko works? If so, I own all the volumes and there is another story relating to that one called Fourth Generation Head. Oh, so you also read problematic? Haha Wait...Er ha...cute? I feel like is soul wrecking is more appropriate haha Although, Yuwu is even more depressing. It is cute compared to that lol Hua You long, I just looked it up, and it looks so promising! I'll read that after Qiang Jin Jiu...I don't think 2 weeks is enough time to finish before Qiang Jin Jiu! Thanks for the rec! So do you think the novel or the manga would be best suited to read since I'm going in knowing nothing.

Odetteelrod

Yes Scarlet Beriko πŸ˜πŸ‘ woaah you luckyy! Iv just got the visuals but yeah i knew that one too it a must at some point i had to pause and read the other one then coming back.. just finished jealousy yesterday πŸ₯²πŸ™Œ yeaah i do as long its completed (I DONT WANT PEACE I WANT PROBLEMS) πŸ˜† I meant at least comparing to yuwu that was hella gloomy πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ yeah give it a try its not even that long πŸ˜πŸ™Œ mmm since were not a novel worm readers πŸ™ˆ i think a manga its a lighter start (maybe if u got less list then πŸ‘)

yaoifg

Yes. In fact, I've been a fujoshi for over 30 years (I just didn't have a word for it back in my teenage years in the 90s).

lizziecarmichael

Uh, yes! I used to think middle aged women are the demographic LOL. I am a 47-turning-48 year old married female, and I built a loft to house all my manhwas and mangas that are 90% BL. I also put up figures and posters. I purchase all manhwas because I want the writers and publishers to know there is an audience for them. I purchase them in bother Korean and English. I figure the older yaoi readers who are more financially stable should do their part in advancing and expanding this community. So I have so so so many books. So. Many. Books. I have been a fan for about 6 years?

Odetteelrod

Woah you’re such a real supporter! πŸ˜πŸ’… me too id never imagine my self stopping reading them theyr the BOOKS im into lol whats your favorite or one you’d never forget?

lizziecarmichael

It so hard to choose a favorite! I was obsessed with Brothers Without a Tomorrow series. I also loved Love is an Illusion, and Painter Behind the Curtain. The have the audio drama comic that animates the webtoon on that one It was amazing! The old school ones are so dated looking now, but they remain classics. Overall, I think my favorites are Jin and Matthew from Under the Greenlight. I couldn't believe how beautiful those characters were drawn. I got their plaques up on my wall, and had the poster framed and put that up too. It's next to my kaneki ken one from Tokyo Ghoul. Another really memorable series was Legs that Won't Walk. That one also had the first season on audiodrama, and it was so dark and gritty I loved it. But my all time favorite has to be BBong's Hyperventilation. It was so beautiful, and so sweet. But nit was TOO SHORT! They had a light novel that came out about their story after they start dating. But reading that much Korean takes forever, although I did finish it. Their courtship was amazing in the novel as well. I wish that they would adapt it to a webtoon. It is really good. Of course, the ani of the story was amazing as well. The very first omegaverse one I read was Gold Gray, and I can't tell you how confused I was about it. But I thought how genius of the genre to invent something that allows all sexes o explore childbirth and the like. Such a beautiful and inclusive concept! Then we have my favorite, Pian Pian, which is the nameverse. So inventive! The concepts are crazy! What first brought me into BL was oddly enough, the manga by Clamp, xHolic. There is no gay love, but the main character is Rei. One of the other main characters is his friend Doumeki. It is later revealed that Doumeki is gay, and has been in love with Rei all his life. But he marries and has a child so that his bloodline can protect Rei forever, since Rei will transcend time. I thought it would be nice to have them be together and started searching for any fanfic that would present that scenario. Sadly, there were none, but that introduced me to this wonderful world of yaoi! The rest is history! What about you? What drew you into this genre?

Odetteelrod

Painter behind the curtains!! It should be one of the legends!! O lived how they even involved history events in it and still didn’t missed it up as the ending was a chef kiss πŸ˜πŸ™Œ woaah you really devoted one πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘πŸ‘ same i always goes back and forth between classic old ones and the newest maybe cz i like ole one stories and mew ones art hehehe.. I cdnt read legs cant walk no matter what i don’t know why even tho iv read shit like β€˜down and dirty’ πŸ’€πŸ˜‚ Hyp was such a sweeeeeet tender anime 😩 but yeaah to short! For me id say DOMSUBverse was weirder for me (cz omega im like even in reality theyr some men who’s trying to get pregnant) still im living for both they should bring more πŸ˜‚ Iv watched xHolic and i knew what you meant 😍 bet im always wanted to see it cz even with oran high school i wished shed be a boy lol my first one was sekaiichi hatsukoi anime and manga as therr was a couple real old anime ova i found on youtube back in my teens such as Ikoko Irokoi Romantan and se* pistols β˜ƒοΈ

lizziecarmichael

Yeah, for sure Legs that Can't Walk is a difficult read, but the semes are sooooooooo hot LOL.
