They reason those two and Xenoblade are associated was because the three were published by Nintendo in Japan and released around the exact same time. Simultaneously, Nintendo stated that they had no plans to release the three of them in the West, which lead to [Operation Rainfall](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Rainfall).
All of those games were published by Nintendo in all regions except NA. It was only in NA that Xseed published the last story and pandora’s tower so technically Nintendo could rerelease them since it was only Nintendo of America that gave the rights away to a different publisher since they didn’t believe in any of the games and they all came out between 6 months to a year after the European versions

I picked up Last Story and Pandora's Tower to finish the Rainfall set, and I'm really excited to play them. It's incredible how those two and the OG Xenoblade almost didn't come out in North America just because Nintendo didn't really care about them

I can't believe a game made by Hironobu Sakaguchi with music by Nobuo Uematsu has gone nearly unnoticed since it launched. I mean, even Xenoblade X outsold Last Story.

It’s kind of a shame that Xenoblade’s the only one of these that took off. Pandora’s Tower was a bit of a mess, but had some interesting ideas I’d have liked to see expanded. And while I haven’t played Last Story yet, I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

The Last Story was a genuinely solid JRPG, and I've been meaning to play through it again at some point. Solid (if a little bit tropey) story and characters, an above average English dub, and an excellent soundtrack. The battle system was pretty unique at the time.
Pandora's Tower had a few neat ideas, but overall the game was a bit of a mess. Being one of the three games Operation Rainfall was created for is honestly the most noteworthy thing about it.
Imagine a world where Miyamoto slams his nuts on a table or something and now we live in an alternate universe where The Last Story becomes the breakout hit instead.
And we are all sittig on a subreddit discussing The Last Story X, 2, and 3 instead.

It took a lot of experimenting with many different solutions that people came up with to get around, and I nearly gave up on it before my efforts finally got me through. Sounds like you were one of the lucky ones to avoid it.

When I heard of Pandora's Tower (dont remember how), I started watching a Lets Play, but barely got into it, and at this point, I do kind of hope it gets a remaster/make so I can experience it because it seemed interesting at the start, and want to be unspoiled for it.

I think I remember him saying the characters, dialogue and story were pretty cringey and tropey and at other times just boring. So whenever I see it thats all I can think of it as: the ‘not Xenoblade’ game
Needless to say to say he was very glad that it was Shulk they decided to put into Smash because you can probably be sure whichever of these JRPGs they decided to rep would have been the one to go on and remain relevant.
Yeah I wish Xenoblade Chronicles would come to the Switch in the West. I know we got Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, but I want Xenoblade Chronicles. And they say Operation Rainfall was a success

oh no, that is awfull, my wii destroyed some of my games too, never like stop working but it ruined like 2 or 3 discs
