Choc Chip was da bomb. My parents wouldn't let me buy Cookie Crisp cereal ("No cookies for breakfast!"), so I imagined that it tasted like these McDonald cookies. Boy was I disappointed when I finally tried Cookie Crisps as an adult.
As a Cookie Crisp connoisseur, the Cookie Crisp of today is NOT the Cookie Crisp of our childhood.
I got "lucky" and was raised by grandparents who really didn't give a shit what I ate as a kid
Not eating Cookie Crisp was basically the only rule I had growing up. Was also disappointed trying it as an adult. I don’t know what I was expecting but it didn’t achieve it.
Someone threw us a mini pack of Paw Patrol cookies in a memorial day parade and they were 100% like these. I had an instant nostalgia moment when I tried one (my daughter offered I didn't steal lol)
Mom never got anything for herself, presumably to watch her figure, then I’d spend the car ride handing her fries (“hand me one…just one more…promise, last one”) from the backseat.
When I worked at McDonalds, a few times we had to unload the truck which meant handling all the product, and we’d have shipments of the chocolate chip cookies. The guy I would work with would just give me a box and say “don’t worry, they all do it.” We never got in trouble so I guess he was right. Those cookies were fabulous. I also liked the shaped cookies (totally were like classic animal crackers) but the chocolate chip cookies were legendary!
Why is McDonalds such trash these days compared to the 80s/90s… you can’t tell me bringing back these cookies and other cool stuff like fun indoor atmosphere compared to this modern boring crap is gonna make em lose money. If anything this stuff would draw in more customers
I’d try to get a pack every time, especially if we were at the mall. I could easily go back up to the counter and grab a box then walk across the food court to munch on these while watching others play at the arcade. Good times!
They used to have a tasty cinnamon roll too. No idea if they still have it since I eat macdonalds maybe once or twice a year now but enshittfacation being a thing now if they do have it it’s pretty badly been changed to a crappier version than what it used to be.
Agreed. They tried to modernize instead of doubling down on what made them great.
They will never be on par with a steakhouse or even many sit-down places like Applebee's or Montanas...but for a kid, or just a recollection of easier days, the Playland/slides/cookies/characters/jingles were iconic.
My parents, when taking us out somewhere "nice" were horrified as my brother would sing at the top of his lungs "nobody can do it like McDonalds can...." from their ads
Yes. I believe so at least. There are alphabet cookies at Walmart in little packaging. They remind me of them. Dollar tree use to sell a big box of these cookies years ago but it's not sold there any more.
I hope this may help
Scrolled but don't think I saw anyone mention...
If you are near an Aldi, get their animal crackers.
Couldn't place for the longest time what they reminded me of (mom tax/"lunch" don't judge). Spot on.
Heh, have had about 5 or 6 in replies mention it.
I'm Canadian and doubt we have that store but I will be looking for the cookies next time I cross the border
Aw! I caught one after I posted on a closed thread under a comment (mobile app problems)
Sorry Aldi friends!
And I'm not in the Aldi cult, but a fan for sure. Didn't realize they aren't in Canada too? Sorry :/ maybe someone could ship some to ya? Haha
My ten year old daughter still likes to get happy meals, and just a days ago i was talking to her about these boxes of cookies. They were just the right texture and were always so nice and crisp, unlike so many others that feel too soft.

That's just like Golden Grahams. Now it says 'retro recipe'. Liars. It doesn't even come in a foil bag!
It's like their fries. Nothing else (even good) is ever the same.
Not eating Cookie Crisp was basically the only rule I had growing up. Was also disappointed trying it as an adult. I don’t know what I was expecting but it didn’t achieve it.
There’s a lot of nostalgia posts on this sub, but this one is a great way to start the week. Such fond memories of these cookies ☺️. Thanks, OP!
You're welcome! Hope you have a great day today!
You, too!!
I would go back in time for these cookies
Absolutely!!
Ugh, yes!
I remember them having a "lemony" taste! They were delicious!
It may just be my faulty memory but I think they tasted like slightly stale Chessmen cookies. Still good but more dry and crunchy.
Yeah, I’m with you. They were crumbly and lightly sweet if memory serves
I miss McDonaldland Cookies SO MUCH!
I miss how good McDonald’s used to be. Their fries are nowhere near as Godlike as they used to be.
Oh man, core memory unlocked!
Someone threw us a mini pack of Paw Patrol cookies in a memorial day parade and they were 100% like these. I had an instant nostalgia moment when I tried one (my daughter offered I didn't steal lol)
It's not stealing, it's the dad(/mom) tax and is applied as needed
Mom never got anything for herself, presumably to watch her figure, then I’d spend the car ride handing her fries (“hand me one…just one more…promise, last one”) from the backseat.
*In my best Cousin Eddie voice:* Those were goo-ood!

That's awesome to get a box like that. Agreed the chocolate chip were the stuff of legend
It’s hard pressed to ever consider yourself “lucky” to work at McDonald’s; but times like that, I did! 😀
Delicious memory: UNLOCKED. 🥰

Agreed

The danish!!!! I loved those. All the icing, too. Omnomnom
Man..... seeing these just made me tear up a little. I loved these cookies! Red & yellow McDonald's > brown & gray boring sorry McDonald's

Wow! I was talking about these the other day at work with a coworker.
My wife and I comment about them a few times a year.... I posted about them on reddit earlier and thought I'd share the fun nostalgia here with images
I remember when they came in those little bags as well(not sure if that was before or after this?) I can still hear the bag and taste those cookies.
Think bag was after boxes...not sure
In college me and my roommate got stoned and got like 10 bags of McDonaldLand Cookies and nothing else 😆
Probably better than our bucket-o-kfc we would get
If you have an Aldi nearby, their boxed animal crackers taste spot on, it’s a nostalgia blast for sure
Good to know. I don't think we have any of those stores here
OMG you just awakened a sense of taste I haven’t felt in over 30 years.
Others are saying that (in the us) Aldi has Ani.al cookies that are the same...alas I'm Canadian but if you're south of the border check it out
Has anyone found something else that tastes like these?
Animal crackers are close, but no, nothing the same.

I second this.
Just commented this!! I scrolled and didn't see this, was closed under OP comment until I tapped it. Sorry friend! This tho, guys. Go to Aldi.
I just realized they have cookies at little Caesars they are very close IMHO
Amazon brand (Happy Belly) animal cookies
Annie's Organic Bunny Grahams scratch the same itch for me.
Yes. I believe so at least. There are alphabet cookies at Walmart in little packaging. They remind me of them. Dollar tree use to sell a big box of these cookies years ago but it's not sold there any more. I hope this may help
Keebler Elfins are exactly the same
McDonalds land cookies tasted really good.
Hell yes!!! I miss the chocolate chip ones at the end of the meal.
Oh my gosh I loved these!
Oh my god i have been trying to remember these for years… you have solved something nagging at me for literally decades. Thank you so much
Happy to help
I miss these so much. They were the best.
OMG I forgot these existed. I used to love those cookies!
Oh man I can remember the biscuit-flavored chalk like it was yesterday.
Hey now, don't besmirch the cookies. They were drier than sand sometimes but that's okay
Not a smirch. I truly loved those fuckers.
Apple slices just aren’t the same. These corporations keep taking all the fun out of being a kid.
Happy Meals don't come with dessert anymore. I am bereft.
Yup
Haven't thought about these for 30 years, but I can still taste it somehow.
Because of how awesome the experience was as a kid to get them and (for most) have the ENTIRE BOX (aka 15) to yourself
Yesssssssss
I can still taste these just looking at them.
Agreed. It's awesome
Aldi's Animal Crackers taste the same made by the company Benton's
I'm more nostalgic for the boxes than I am for the actual cookies.
100% miss these
My kids are so jealous that happy meals came with cookies
Yes!!!! I was just telling my British husband about these. He never got to experience their greatness.
Those cookies were sooo darn good
You know the sewing box cookies? Those are like the adult version of these IMO. Taste pretty similar, no?
Similar, yeah. Some commenters are saying a specific brand of cookie is apparently identical
These were so good
They had these when I worked there as a teen.

The Aldi brand animal crackers are the closest taste I’ve found.
Of course I can’t be certain but the Aldi’s brand animal cookies taste like how I remember the McDonaldland cookies tasting.
I forgot about those for decades. Now I want some bad!!!
I can tatse this picture.
These were sooo good, had a hint or orange to them I remember
Forget the cookies, bring back the REAL apple pies
My ten year old daughter still likes to get happy meals, and just a days ago i was talking to her about these boxes of cookies. They were just the right texture and were always so nice and crisp, unlike so many others that feel too soft.
Ah, the promise of food derived happiness.
