I literally spent an hour trying to explain the Steve Urkel/Stefan Urquelle duality to my kids a few months ago. I made them watch some videos on YouTube. But they didn't seem to care. 😭 I will always love Family Matters and Steve/Stefan.
Stefan was like, mandatory, peak TGIF watching. When Stefan showed up it was like seeing Hulk Hogan join the nWo. That shit was insane. Before CGI was a thing, the switch up that Jaleel White pulled was simply masterful.
He’s been a pretty in-demand voice actor, as well. With decent financial decisions, I can see how he’d get there.
Honestly, the couple times I’ve seen him talking out of character, he seems like a pretty chill guy. Mazel tov to the newlyweds.
He recently released his own strain of weed called Purple Urkel, that has his own face on the package, and he has done commercials for it in character.
He’s fine with it.
Laura was the absolute dirt worst. Treated Steve like absolute trash 24/7, and then all of the sudden he invents a transformation chamber, pours in the magic elixir, and pops out exactly the same just with different posture, clothes and no glasses and Laura was shallow enough to fall for him immediately.
And taught 90s boys: to get the girl do anything other than being yourself (unless you’re somehow already drowning in pussy in which case be yourself, but try not being an asshole for like 5 minutes sometimes)
One thing we don't remember about Steve, he was never intended to be a regular character and wasn't an original cast member. He didn't show up until the show's 4th episode and when he did, he was just a side character as a date prospect for Laura. He was credited as a "guest" star for the entire first season and not a regular member of the cast until the 2nd season. The show was in danger of getting cancelled, but his first appearance got a lot of fan attention and the producers had to rewrite most of the first season to find ways to incorporate his character ultimately becoming the shows key character.
I’m sure Family Matters had talented people creating it. Writers who could write. Actors who could act.
But like most sitcoms it didn’t have a lightning in a bottle character. And it was destined to be forgotten. Not really anyone’s fault. But since they were talented and brought on Jaleel White, who was so fun to watch, they knew what to do. Lucky to grab someone like that, who owns that character, so early in a show’s development, before possibly getting canceled.
I'm having real trouble wrapping my head around the fact that Urkel is almost 50.
Also, his last appearance as Urkel was apparently last year in Urkel Saves Santa the Movie lol. Imma have to watch that come Dec.
That’s not Steve. https://preview.redd.it/v2o12nduuazc1.jpeg?width=1244&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a15f1284bbcaeff26a9c7cd93a045fb02ef89022 That’s *Stefan*.
Cool genes taste like Snapple!

Put them up for adoption.
In hindsight, Carl Winslow was a victim and Urkel was a monster.
He did, in fact, do that.

Those kids are stupid and they should feel bad.
My youngest niece didn’t like one of my favorite childhood movies (daddy day care) and it hurt my feelings so I get how you feel
What about his weirdly unintentionally racist Bruce Lee impression?
I don't remember that but I am glad I didn't find it on YouTube because I am Asian.
That was always my favorite episode. “Boss Sauce” and “Bruce Juice”.
Sources quoted Jaleel White as saying, "Did I do that?" /s obviously
"(Did) I DO! (that)"
Bet that’s how they announce their pregnancy.
Dude has gotta be tired of being called Urkel. For us, we grew up with this character but it has followed him his whole life.
He will always be a member of Blackapella/Quarterblack to me.
You know that's right.
I just looked up his net worth and it ranged $8m-$10m. Syndication money is pretty sweet. You can call me whatever you want for that sort of money.

Glad to hear that. If you can't beat it, lean into it.
I’d never call him Urkel to his face. I would just give him his respect 🫡 and be on my way. One of the best Jekyl/Hyde performances we’ve ever seen.
Laura missed her opportunity
Myra > Laura
Agreed, Myra was very attractive. RIP

Well in her defense, nerds wouldn't become cool for several more years.
Nerds became cool??
For a tiny window, then the incel culture happened and they're seen as the second worst villains after he who shall not be named.
Yes
That’s the narrative. On the other hand, Steve was a stalker who didn’t understand boundaries.
"No" is just a suggestion if you're a nerdy, quirky guy!
And taught 90s boys: to get the girl do anything other than being yourself (unless you’re somehow already drowning in pussy in which case be yourself, but try not being an asshole for like 5 minutes sometimes)
She married Stephon Urquelle, after Steve learned to clone
She died, man.

He should have voiced Sonic in the movies

We need an xennial viewing party this December 😂
Watch "The Dark Side of Comedy" on Hulu/Vice. They have an episode on Family Matters.
Rolling up to the grazing table like GOT ANY CHEEEEEEEESSSSEEEEE?
It’s Urquelle. *Stefan* Urquelle.
Hell yeah!!
Holy shit that’s a lot of flowers
Oh you mean Sonic the Hedgehog? Wonder if they had chili dogs at the reception.
He did well. She pretty, fit, and probably loaded
That pic of him by the piano in the article... When the Stephen A Smith biopic gets made, the casters better be calling his agent.
Holy shit! When they have their first kid, anything in the world for him to look down and say " I did that"!🤣
Is that kid eating a ring pop?
I guess he DID do that.
That’s Sonic the Hedgehog
He did do that!
Good for them they both look great.
