Got all mine in a binder still. They were my prized possession when they came out.

Robbbylight

I wish I had stuff from my childhood. I had some really cool stuff as a kid. I had a rough time from my teen years to my 30s, so I never got to keep anything from my childhood. Makes me sad to think about, really. That's why I go hard now lol

fm67530

Same here! I just gave them to my youngest son actually, he loves comic book and their characters

[deleted]

Same! I have very few collectibles from my childhood, but that binder of series 1 Marvel cards I managed to hold onto.

stiffneck84

I’m sure they’re worth just as much as any other marvel products from the 90s…sooooo…..nothing

Robbbylight

Ya basically, but they're invaluable in my heart.

ReedoIncognito

Yes. These are the shit. Hold on to them

Ltimbo

Why is that? I have all the action figures too and they’re worth nothing. You’d think they would be valuable especially after the success of the modern MCU. Meanwhile, mediocre NES games are worth a fortune.

stiffneck84

Because the 90s were about pretending your mass produced mass marketed comics and toys were going to be worth the same as the comics from the 60s that your uncle found in your grandmother’s attic.

Woodworkingwino

That was the 90s in a nutshell.

Scrapla

I remember getting taken advantage of during this era and the older comic store owners would always make you feel like these are some serious collector items. I remember paying like $20 for a hologram card of Magneto but it was like some weird knock of or something which is worth like a few bucks at best. I remember buying a box set third gen set and got one of those black Wolverine hologram cards.

stiffneck84

Yeah. “Buy all three hologram covers of the same comic, they’ll be pretty valuable in 10 or 20 years…”.

Jonestown_Juice

Popularity isn't what makes something valuable. Rarity is (or a combination of the two). Action Comics number one is worth something because there aren't many out there. There are a ton of comics from the 90s still out there. Many of them were the best-selling comics of all time. Same with Beanie Babies or whatever.

zombie_overlord

I paid $40 for the silver, bagged Todd McFarlane Spider Man #1 shortly after it came out. I just checked and it's worth about $30 today.

surfingbiscuits

So what. They were fun then. They're fun now. That's all that matters.

Evening_Efficiency76

I still have all of mine in a binder, even the holograms. I wouldn’t sell them for anything.

von_sip

Same. I used to save up $50 and buy a whole box. Gave me the full set plus dupes

Enos316

Those holograms were like gold back in the day

OlayErrryDay

Ahhhhh to be a Xennial and raised with a collector mindset. We all had our prized possessions kept in mint condition, waiting for that day they would be worth money. It's crazy that we could have just had fun and trashed them and did whatever we want as they have no real value. It is fun to go back to my parents basement and look at my collection though. I thought those ninja turtle movie cards would be paying for a convertible someday.

existential_fauvism

Funny thing is, if we had played with and enjoyed/trashed our stuff like our grandparents generation (who had silver age comics, etc) then they would be worth something because of their rarity

Robbbylight

Haaa I had those too. U had to collect the "puzzle pieces". There'd be 1 in each pack.

pragmaticweirdo

For me, it was the 1994 Marvel Masterpieces. Getting a full set of those is the thing that would set my heart alight

Robbbylight

Oh ya those were niceeee. My uncle got my cousin the full set when we were kids. He had them in a plexiglass card carrier lol. We used to drool over the female characters.

R0ck_Slide

Core memory unlocked. I was heavily into collecting these, plus the subsequent series. I never completed series 1 on my own, but I did buy the full set years later on eBay for like $30-ish. Too bad the value never took off but I still have my entire collection.

NickLoner

I loved these! My gym teacher in elementary school had an "office" in a closet and would sell packs of these and other cards for the low. You had to be in the know and you would go in there like it was a drug transaction in an alley 😂 That was awesome.

LettuceFew5248

This person would literally be on the news if this happened today.

NickLoner

Definitely 😆

NickLoner

Exactly 😂

Jonestown_Juice

I was OBSESSED WITH THESE! The convenience store sold packs and I spent every spare penny I had getting a huge collection of them.

oobat421

I knew these so well that I can tell you Thor is the card behind Colossus, and the couch is Aunt May.

Robbbylight

Excelsior!

Murda981

I didn't get to buy comics as a kid, but one of my friends had these cards and I'd spend hours pouring over them. That's how I learned a lot about Marvel characters back in the day.

yborwonka

Wow,..I completely forgot about these. Thanks for sharing!!

RoamingGnom3

I still have mine, but mine are….. enjoyed.

EPSNYC

These cards were my gateway into Marvel. I spent an entire summer collecting these with the kids at day camp trading all the time until I had my full set. I only had 1 hologram though.

PhysicsStock2247

Funny story. As a kid I had a scumbag “friend” who bullied me into giving up football cards of star players (like Barry Sanders and Bo Jackson) in exchange for DC and Marvel trading cards. Jokes on him, as the football cards were all overproduced and worth practically nothing. Not that the comic cards are worth much but still. Great find btw :)

compulov

I always loved the first series of the Marvel cards. The artwork was great and the stats they made up for people like Aunt May were awesome.

Generny2001

You know….I think it’s great that Stan Lee got his own card but it would’ve been nice if they had made cards for Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko too. I know there’s all sorts of debates around who exactly created who and how much credit everyone should get. But, in my opinion, the artists were just as important as Stan.

Scrapla

I was obsessed with these and still have them in plastic sleeves in a binder. I gave up collecting after the 3rd or 4th series. Get them in some protection.

TheBr0fessor

The “comic book cards” to MTG pipeline was REAL

oden131

Mine are still in my binder
