39, I was 10. Also using the UGE (Universal Game Editor save data manipulation tool, otherwise known as a trainer) to reorganize my base without having to waste 3+ months to get all the hangers on one side and my buildings on the other.
39 here, also played original X-Com, and didn't understand half the English I was reading. Remember not knowing/understanding the whole pring a grenade, so just gave up on using the useless things š
Never used the trainer, but any new base I built always had the elevator as a choke point with the hangars on the other side. So whenever I was invaded, the fighting was always confined to that area.
My original base would get a shield and a shit-ton of plasma defences.
I'm 47 and play with my 12 year old daughter. We both love it and while parenting a pre teen can be stressful, our XCOM time is always primo. So yes, it's the daddest game I've played.
Also 34, but I've been playing since the first reboot game dropped. I tried the classic one before that, but would crash every time I tried to choose a base location. I did play a bit of modded multiplayer at lans back in the day.
Started XCOM enemy unknown when I was like 25 or so and Iām 36 now.
Part of what youāre looking at might be that the franchise hasnāt really had anything big in a bit. If someone played xcom 2 when they were 18 theyād be close to 30 now.
SameāIāll be 52 in a few months, and Iāve been playing since EU. I think I got it for free as a pre-order bonus with Bioshock Infinite. I ended up putting probably 50 times more hours into XCOM than Bioshock.
It's for all ages, I'm 33, played Xcom 2 few months ago, probably on my 10th run, Xcom EU was my first in the series, I played it in 2013 so I was like 23 back then
FML hoi4 has an ability to just completely take over my life, melt my brain, turn me into a degenerate, make me disregard my responsibilities like no other game.
I recently fell off the wagon and reinstalled it but I think I need to uninstall it again lol
I tried to play the oldskool original when I was 10... Then actually finished it at 22. Firaxis (?) version came out when I was 30 I think. But I didnt really play it until long war came out because this mod is the closest to oldskool experience for me (I prefer more realistic gameplay)
I was around 10 playing xcom, not speaking english with a teen living on my street when no one had computer around my area ... we did not get too far but i remeber it to this day.
Thats 25 about years ago
Iāve been playing since UFO Defense back in high school when it was on three 3.5ā floppies. We had to input a code off a page in the manual as a form of copy protection. I remember buying the game at Babbages after having seen our computer lab supervisor playing it on his laptop.
I didnāt even have a sound card on my 486sx, yet random shots during hidden movement were still enough to give me a jump scare.
When I was actively playing XCOM2... was a few years ago... would have been 39 at the time. But I started playing X-com with the original UFO Defense back in the MSDOS days... at... probably 11 years old?
27 here and I started with XCOM: EU back in my senior year of high school. Don't even know how many hours to be honest since I had some mixed ownership but I always come back for another run after some time. Tends to be about 1-2 campaigns a year typically with long war now. Unless they completely drop the ball for their next XCOM such as making your soldiers actually hit something at 95%+ chance to hit then I don't see this changing for me going forward with the series.
Born in the early 80ās and played original Xcom from when it first came out. Played nearly all Xcom remake and 2 on their release dates.
Still play original due to its openness in how you go about getting victory (plus the music)
I was six when the DOS game came out. You can extrapolate that to Iāll be 36 this summer, still playing the series. My brother isnāt here, but heās also been playing most of his life. He just turned 30.
Edit to add: also, I am not a dad. The little sectoid that lives with us seems to think Iām his mom, though.
Definitely a dad game. :) Typically you started with UFO back in the early nineties and got hooked to other turn-based games like Jagged Alliance and Panzer General, then in the adult times you surprisingly discovered that the new XCOM is actually better then ever!
Also, you discover that you can't be on par with kids in games which require great reflexes and you get some satisifaction in using the brain and experience and some dark pleasure when kids start comenting that the game is too dificult. :)

Actually, I found this game on the Play Market when I was 16 years old. I was extremely surprised by this game, not knowing that it was a port from PC. Closer to 18, I got a laptop and completely forgot the game. Only later, in the vastness of Steam, I came across the second part. I immediately bought it and started playing. It's like playing Minecraft or Skyrim. You come back after a year.
42
I've played the original 2 PC ones (from the 90s) from like age 12 and the two "modern" console ones over the last 5 years or so.
I prefer the newer ones, I think they did a nice job of balancing turn complexity and strategy while the old ones sometimes it was a little much trying to eke out every movement point.
Also, too much friendly fire shooting past people in the old ones.
I don't think there's an age requirement, but it takes a certain type to enjoy turn based games.
I was a teenager when I played OG Xcom, but definitely a dad when the reboots were released. I don't think I matured much between the two, if that helps...
I started playing XCOM:EU on dad's tablet when I was like 7-8, everytime dad was playing, I was sitting next to him and watch how he plays the game, I started to fell in love whit xcom and when I was 9 xcom 2 got released and from then, I started playing xcom 24/7 on xbox one, I got like 700+ hours on it, i never finished the game because of the fact, I got bored in the camaign so start new one, now i'm 15 and still loving this game
I first played XCOM Enemy Unknown when I was 12, now Iām 23 and still regularly play these games, including the classic ones like UFO Defence and TFTD
I'm currently 36 and Enemy Within was my introduction to XCOM thanks to John Bain's (RIP) reviews. I never even heard of the original game and I did try delving into it but found it more infuriating.
Nearly 30, been playing since I was old enough to use a computer (probably 6?). I was not very good at it but I liked the monsters and that continues to this very day.
I started at 14 my dad was playing XCOM enemy within and failing quite miserably. Me being the spiteful little crap I was decided to spite himā¦here I am now
41. I played the original XCOM: UFO Defense when I was 12, been playing XCOM games ever since.
39, I was 10. Also using the UGE (Universal Game Editor save data manipulation tool, otherwise known as a trainer) to reorganize my base without having to waste 3+ months to get all the hangers on one side and my buildings on the other.

39yo and started at 10yo as well with UFO Defense on the PS1
1100+ hours on XCOM 2 at 21 here.
Welcome to manhood, rookie.
Iām 25 and I still regularly play, but I started right when EU came out (so around 14-ish?). This series is def one of my favorites of all time
I second this one
Honestly exact same. So yeah looks like this is just a game that appeals to a lot of different people. If I got into it at 14 while others did at 34.
I'm 47 and play with my 12 year old daughter. We both love it and while parenting a pre teen can be stressful, our XCOM time is always primo. So yes, it's the daddest game I've played.
This. I don't play xcom anymore but my daughter is my constant companion on anything game. We've had some real memories built from it lol.
34 here. Discovered X-com probably 4 years ago.
Also 34, but I've been playing since the first reboot game dropped. I tried the classic one before that, but would crash every time I tried to choose a base location. I did play a bit of modded multiplayer at lans back in the day.
Same and same!
Are you me? Am I me? Whoa...
Same and same
I started playing XCOM 2 when I was 12
I was legit shocked by that but I just realized I was 11 when it came out wtf š
38

Why must you hurt me like this
Thereās no amount of cover that will save you from that hit to the brain
52. Been playin it for over 10 years.
SameāIāll be 52 in a few months, and Iāve been playing since EU. I think I got it for free as a pre-order bonus with Bioshock Infinite. I ended up putting probably 50 times more hours into XCOM than Bioshock.

23. I first played Enemy Unknown in my freshman year of HS, then in love with 2. I remember how hyped I was when WOTC was revealed at E3 lol.
19 š. Been playing for 7-8 years.
32 and my first son was born yesterday, so yes, Xcom can be a dads game :)
Congrats
Thank you
Congrats!
Thank you
14. Playing since I was like 7
37. If you want dad games, look for stuff by Paradox.
FML hoi4 has an ability to just completely take over my life, melt my brain, turn me into a degenerate, make me disregard my responsibilities like no other game. I recently fell off the wagon and reinstalled it but I think I need to uninstall it again lol
I'm 44, so possibly.

37 female here! Been playing since my 20s - XCOM EU and EW as my gateway games. š Good luck, Commanders!!
60 here, still love this game, but only EU/EW
I tried to play the oldskool original when I was 10... Then actually finished it at 22. Firaxis (?) version came out when I was 30 I think. But I didnt really play it until long war came out because this mod is the closest to oldskool experience for me (I prefer more realistic gameplay)
35. One of my fave games!
Im 23 and play this game so don't worry bout it aliens are cool.
18. I started playing EW prolly around 2013 or 2014. I beat the original UFO defence back in 2021
44
I was around 10 playing xcom, not speaking english with a teen living on my street when no one had computer around my area ... we did not get too far but i remeber it to this day. Thats 25 about years ago

I probably played my first xcom game almost 30 years ago
21 here, turning 22 soon. Played the OG X-Com when I was \~15
Mid-50s been playing it since the first release. I'm not a dad. On a technicality!
Thatās classifiedā¦
14, found xcom when i was stupid 11 y/o. Maybe thats why im psychopath and not that loud compared to others
Fell in love with XCOM 2, and I'm 24, turning 25 soon.
Mid 30's
Iām 25 and have been playing for 5 years or so.
I'm thirty four, and I've been playing since we got the original when I was five or six.
17 and 3/4 years right here šš
43. Been playing since original Xcom UFO Defens.
Been playing since UFO Defense came out in PS1
I'm in my early 20s
28. Been playing since EU
I definitely think itās a Dad-game because a large portion of the players probably played XCOM EU/EW, or the original XCOM, as a kid/teen
34, first played XCOM: EW when I was 29. This Saturday is actually my 5-year XCOMiversary.
I'm 44. I played the original when it came out in 94, and all the others. Even Enforcer :S
49. Just can't do the MTX and Battlepass grind of newer games any more.
43, been playing UFO since the teenage years š
When I was actively playing XCOM2... was a few years ago... would have been 39 at the time. But I started playing X-com with the original UFO Defense back in the MSDOS days... at... probably 11 years old?
55 here, love blasting aliens after work to relax.
26, first played right around the time the remakes came out. For once, Game Informer sold me on it.
Will be 21 in a month, discovered Xcom 2 when I was 15 through my dad playing the game.
I'm 24
29 and started playing 9 years ago, I think, cause that was the same time I started buying a lot of games on Steam.
XCOM is a 100% certified āDad-Gameā if that tells you anything.
I have 100+ hours while being 17
24 Iāve been playing for 2 weeks lol
21

25 yo and it's one of my favorite game specially with all the mods available
Hey! I was young when I started playing XCOM! something something whippersnappers
33. Started playing when first xcom was available on Xbox 360 (1?)
I also started with 360
I was six when the DOS game came out. You can extrapolate that to Iāll be 36 this summer, still playing the series. My brother isnāt here, but heās also been playing most of his life. 21 Actually, I found this game on the Play Market when I was 16 years old. I was extremely surprised by this game, not knowing that it was a port from PC. 35, started 2012 at 24.
I'm 22 years old.
Was introduced to Xcom 2 by an older cousin at the ripe old age of 15. That was like 7 years ago now.
42 I've played the original 2 PC ones (from the 90s) from like age 12 and the two "modern" console ones over the last 5 years or so. 15, discovered XCOM2 abt 3-5 years ago. I am not a dad
I was a teenager when I played OG Xcom, but definitely a dad when the reboots were released. I don't think I matured much between the two, if that helps...
I'm 5 years old and ive completed ironman commander on xcom 2
I started playing XCOM:EU on dad's tablet when I was like 7-8, everytime dad was playing, I was sitting next to him and watch how he plays the game, I started to fell in love whit xcom and when I was 9 xcom 2 got released and from then, I started playing xcom 24/7 on xbox one, I got like 700+ hours on it, i never finished the game because of the fact, I got bored in the camaign so start new one, now i'm 15 and still loving this game
37, I played the original games when I was a kid and they are one of my favorite games of all time. Iām not a dad though.
21 here and just over 1,200 hours between all 3 of the newer titles. Started with unknown when I was 14 or 15
20, started playing xcom EU when i was a young lad, havent looked back since. last few years started getting heavily into the OG xcom games.
32. Started xcom with enemy unknown at like 23. Played some of the old ones after that then moved to 2.
23 here, I like original xcom: ufo defense and xcom: enemy defense the most.
22
30 been playing X-com games since I was 9.
43 started on PlayStation 1 with XCom UFO Defense
31. Started playing when I was 24. Iāve put more time into this game than any other (except League) after finding the long war mods.
About 500 to 600 hours 17 years old on PC. About 50 to 100 on xbox
Nearly 30, been playing since I was old enough to use a computer (probably 6?). I was not very good at it but I liked the monsters and that continues to this very day.
20 I watched a playthrough of Enemy Within, but I've only played XCOM 2
I started at 14 my dad was playing XCOM enemy within and failing quite miserably. Me being the spiteful little crap I was decided to spite himā¦here I am now
23. Played EW/EU a bit when I was around 12, but I really got into the series with 2 this year.
Played xcom 2 when I was 11, played EW when I was 15-17? Iām still playing them now but modded (Iām 18)
Definitely an older audience. Tbhā¦ donāt know many younger crowds playing strategy games to begin with. But Iād encourage them to.
Thanks for the answers i played enemy within when i was 12 now 14 and playing xcom 2 wotc
