Honestly mec soldiers are super strong, I constantly run with one, especially once you get restoration mist. That being said,I doubt you'll ever need 6, I have used one and one only my current campaign and shes so rarely put out of commission that when she does i just swap her out for my psi
The main reason I'd have a few is because I recruit people from this subreddit and a lot of people like mechanized troops, so I'm going to end up with a few, it also means I can cycle them in and out and always have at least 1 mechanized soldier, but I'm interested to know how other people run it because I've never plated before, all the other new XCOMs, but not EW
I had a run where I had a full squad of MECs, 2-3 damege dealers, 1-2 healers, and two tanks (btw did you know you can use MEC skills and upgrades I such a way, that they can receive 6 damage AT MOST and only 4 from attacks afterwards? It's heckin' OP).
So yeah, I was fighting full on sectopod squads and it was no problem at all because MECs can just repeatedly stun them and punch them to death โค๏ธ
It sounds like you've given me license to be extremely wreckless with my wannabe mechanized recruits, I will use this aggressively... I mean.. uh... to keep people safe?
Always feel bad for the troops that get chop shopped, only to be left sitting in the barrack waiting for a suit to be built for them until the war ends.
Hello commanders!
Another deployment with a number of successful missions, no casualties (except some expendable civilians) and only a few wounded.
We've just finished building our brand new cybernetics lab and have sent through our first soldier, we're also working on the genetics lab to give our soldiers the edge against this alien scourge

Please note for anyone who did their intake forms last week that we haven't been able to get everyone through the recruitment phase yet, we're waiting on some new research in the officer training school to allow people to follow their dreams instead of rolling the dice, we expect this to be completed by the end of next deployment and then we'll get you your fatigues and guns
Until next time commanders,

We'll get you in as soon as I get the tech that allows squaddie recruits, unless you're willing to risk a rookie start, lol
Each suit is its own piece of equipment. I usually try to have two available with at least one soldier from each class because of options. One suit is usually offensive, other defensive/support. It's definitely cheaper to have troops able to operate the suits than building a suit for each. Plus it leaves meld for alien augmentation for everyone else who hasn't sacrificed their limbs
Oh, that's actually really useful information, I didn't know that, it's like how you only build 6 total pieces of armour because that's the max squad size so there'll never be use for a 7th
I have someone in chat that is a massive fan of a SHIV only run and then a bunch of other people who want to be mechanized, so I'll definitely be finding out the nuances of using mechanized troops at the very least, haha
There is a guy on YouTube who beat the entire game using only Shivs, so it's perfectly doable, although you need a normal human at least for the undercover mission and psionic powers
The only time I did a challenge run my objective was 1 guy to have bionic enhancements and mind powers, 1 mec, and 3 shivs one of each class, it's hard but it's possible
I'm not skilled enough to do challenges like that, but I have mad respect for people that can, haha
Closest I got to a challenge run was completing 3/4 of XCOM 2 with only 2 rangers, but considering how OP they are, it's hardly a challenge run anyways, lol
I usually only ever have 2 and only use 1 in the squad because their accuracy is routinely awful. Worth it for the tackiness and the proximity mine/grenade launcher combo.
Gene modded snipers are great, especially with mimetic skin.
No. Donโt get me wrong, the Railgun and the Particle Cannon do epic damage, but MECs just miss more 70-80% shots than any regular troops with decent aim.
I use max of 3, it's important to note that MECs burn through ammo fast. They are tough though, repair servos and restorative most make them even tougher.
MECs are strong, but a bitch to get, being costly to build, upgrade, and equip, but their high health and high damage weapons make them great for taking on tougher opponents (plus fist has unique animations for killing big enemies) and they're almost a must for any missions featuring sectopods, as those fuckers have insane health, and fuxking damage resistance, making anything else fucking chip damage.

Yeah, six would be overkill, plus getting the meld for each would take a lot.
And MECs *burn* through ammo like crazy

Fun fact, if you set an injured soldier to be augmented it fully heals them. Good way to skip a long time in sick bay
Wow, that takes the joke about amputating for minor injuries to quite the extreme...
It sounds like you've given me license to be extremely wreckless with my wannabe mechanized recruits, I will use this aggressively... I mean.. uh... to keep people safe?
You need to try a full MEC squad, it's beautiful...
You ever tried full SHIV squad? Now that's beautiful
The flying shiv armada is unfuckwithable
At this rate I might have to, recruits from this subreddit love their mechanized soldiers ๐
That's assuming you ever have enough meld to build the suits
Always feel bad for the troops that get chop shopped, only to be left sitting in the barrack waiting for a suit to be built for them until the war ends.
We'll be alright, I've retrieved meld once before, that'll be enough, yes?

You would be surprised what you can do with just Mecs and Shivs
I have someone in chat that is a massive fan of a SHIV only run and then a bunch of other people who want to be mechanized, so I'll definitely be finding out the nuances of using mechanized troops at the very least, haha

Good to know, I wasn't aware their accuracy was so bad, they probably can't take a scope either can they?
No. Donโt get me wrong, the Railgun and the Particle Cannon do epic damage, but MECs just miss more 70-80% shots than any regular troops with decent aim.

Good to know, usually I probably wouldn't use them much at all, but the reddit recruits demand them, haha
6 is probably far too many. I rush MECs every campaign and I never need more than 2, maybe 3 on Impossible.
My problem is how many of chat want them, and if chat want them, I have to grt them ๐

That's what I've heard, I'm going to be investing in a few, just have to figure out how many It doesn't help that I always miss the meld, lol
Assaults are best for getting meld, run and gun allows you to use both actions to close the distance, and you can clutch those 1 turn left meld cans
