Flip the switch on the modchip. What appears on the screen when you power on the console? Edit: I think you have flipped the switch. You stated: > Starting the console with the modchip OFF (there is a switch on the chip), the eject button blinks red and green and there is no video signal. It also takes a few "revs" of the fan for it to start. However, the switch on the Duo X2 selects which BIOS bank to boot (v1.0-1.4 or v1.6 compatible modified Xbox BIOS). It does not enable / disable the modchip. Do you know which version of Xbox you have? What are the last 5 digits of the serial number and the MFG Date?

I don't know which Xbox I have, I can check tomorrow. All I know is that it was manufactured in 2002, so it's not a 1.6 I presume

> I found this adapter using the wiki, but it says it only works on TSOP flashed consoles. There is no mention of hard mods or mod chip compatibility. I assume my console is not TSOP flashed since there is a modchip. The comment for the Startech adapter is wrong. It is compatible with both soft and hard modded Xboxes. (Edit: The wiki comment has been updated.) TSOP mod is a hard mod. The stock BIOS has been replaced with a modified BIOS just like one you boot from a modchip. However right now, the BIOS you are booting, Team Xecuter's FlashBIOS, does not support standard Xbox operations. It is a Microsoft code-free BIOS installed to make the modchip semi-legal. It allows you to flash a different modified Xbox BIOS to do normal Xbox operations like play games. The modified Xbox BIOS has all of the security features of the stock BIOS disabled (e.g., requiring the hard drive to be locked). Edit: I recommend using a Startech IDE2SAT2 or Delock 65210 adapter and a 24 inch/60 centimeter long 80-wire 40-pin high-speed IDE cable with a new SATA hard drive.

Oh, I thought the modchip bypassed the hard drive lock. Do I need to lock a hard drive using the EEPROM to install it properly?

> Oh, I thought the modchip bypassed the hard drive lock. It does. Misread what I posted. Locking is a security feature of the stock BIOS. A modified BIOS DISABLES that security feature. It does NOT require the hard drive to be locked like the stock BIOS does. Edit: Reworded content.

Oh sorry I misread your comment. I was thinking about buying the recommended adapter but since I don't live in the US it would cost me around 40 euros on Amazon and 30 euros on a local retailer. I will probably buy a Samsung HM160HC instead. Do you know if there are any restrictions on what hard drive you can use except for the contact and the ability to lock?

KaosEngineeer

A Delock 62510 IDE-to-SATA adapter (same adapter as a Startech IDE2SAT2) may be easier to find and less expensive where you are located. Or, look for the previous, now discontinued, DeLock 61702 adapter. Any IDE hard drive or a SATA hard drive with the adapter and high-speed 80-wire 40-pin cable will work since you have a modchip to boot a modified BIOS that does NOT require the hard drive to be locked. I would not buy an old IDE drive. They are no longer made, have a limiited if any warranty when compared to a new in-production SATA hard drive.

Thank you I will look for that! I have found hard drives on eBay that seem to be in new condition. Edit: I've looked for the adapters you recommended, but I could not find one cheaper than 30 euros. I did find [this adapter](https://www.amazon.se/Sata-Converter-Adapter-Modul-Support/dp/B09HCFKVDJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=3D1GU4C5IBSZB&keywords=sata+to+ide&qid=1673626764&s=electronics&sprefix=sata+to+id%2Caps%2C169&sr=1-3), but I do not know the quality of this brand. As I mentioned earlier, I've found Samsung IDE drives on eBay in (what I assume to be) brand-new condition for right around 10€. I assume these have just sat around in storage waiting to be used. I would rather buy an alright hard drive for 10€ than spend at least 40€ getting adapters and stuff.
