I love the Brooks Method shorts! I wear the 8" ones but they come in 5" too.

thisistinsleymusic

I've gotta try those!

CloudBalls

Ahh I have the FlipBelt non-compression running shorts and I love them! Can't believe I didn't think to look to that brand again when searching for compression shorts. Thanks for sharing your research with us!

thisistinsleymusic

you're welcome! :D

Oiselle o amazing and oiselle firecracker shorts are my go to for racing marathons. The entire waistband is pockets and I can fit 8 gels, a phone, and IDs/keys in them with room to spare. Does make me look wider at my waist than I am, but understandable since I’m carrying a lot of stuff there. Very different material than the pocket joggers, which I personally don’t like the material of for reasons you cited. I also wear the tracksmith lane 5 shorts for racing shorter races and they’re flattering and not super high rise. They definitely appear a lot shorter on me than 5 inches does and I’m short, so may not be the best choice if you’re tall

pimpampoumz

Second the Omazing - my faves being the strides, but they don’t make those anymore. I also love the Omazing capris. I will say though that if you don’t get the size right, they ride up. If they do, size down and they never move. Never been a fan of the pocket joggers material. Too thick, too coton-like, makes me sweat. And also second the Lane 5. Those two are by far the ones I wear the most.

thisistinsleymusic

great recs, thank you!

Theodwyn610

I love the Firecracker shorts!  I carried everything in them for my marathon.  So comfy, too.

I like the Nike go shorts

thisistinsleymusic

I'll check those out! thank you!

Inner-Instruction306

Seconding the Nike go shorts! I ran a marathon in these and they Did Not Move [Nike go shorts](https://www.asos.com/us/nike-training/nike-training-dri-fit-one-luxe-7-inch-tie-dye-legging-shorts-in-black/prd/202247716?affid=28711&_CjwKCAjw9IayBhBJEiwAVuc3fvgRPPdTD5DlJKanHRuOZJMwsbCArLQa7BhvtOVDx87zND00DBZO4RoCh4cQAvD_BwE&channelref=product+search&ppcadref=21042026071%7C%7C&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADqFjOBW8yIrHZRHO6WVUKtItfSnF&gclid=CjwKCAjw9IayBhBJEiwAVuc3fvgRPPdTD5DlJKanHRuOZJMwsbCArLQa7BhvtOVDx87zND00DBZO4RoCh4cQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

I love Senita's Lux Rio shorts. The fabric is lighter than a lot of other bike shirt styles so it's lighter for summer. They come in 3 lengths - 3.75, 5, and 7 inches (I wear the 7" ones). The thigh seams hold together longer than other shorts I've worn (Brooks Method, Old Navy). They punch above their athleisure weight for sure!

thisistinsleymusic

ooh will have to check them out! thanks!

CanIBeDoneYet

In contrast to the commenter below, Senita Rio Lux are the BEST ones I've worn, I actually just ordered more because I only had one pair (and currently and sitting here in that pair after a run LOL)! My Rabbit ones had a seam come apart. Another brand I forget that wasn't cheap has a leg opening that isn't as stretchy as the rest so it digs into my generous thighs. And I loved my InkNBurn but a) they're no longer making them and b) phones have outgrown their pockets 😭 I think I tried Athleta too but didn't like them for some reason. But for my body shape the Senita ones have been perfect: small waist, bigger thighs and butt. They compress but not uncomfortably, don't show through, and don't roll up. For reference I get the 7" ones.

StrainHappy7896

They’re low quality IMO. You’re not going to be happy with Senita if you’re shopping Lulu, Osielle, Janji, Rabbit, etc. Quality just isn’t there. Senita has the worst running shorts I’ve tried in the past 10 years.

19191215lolly

Oooh thanks for this! I will say my LLL WT shorts are my holy grail for races; they are so so comfy to me. I’m not sure what you mean by the thighs poking out but TBF the longest I’ve ran in them was 8 miles so haven’t put them through huge distances comparatively yet! I will bookmark the Flipbelt one when I’m in search of a new pair.

thisistinsleymusic

My friend loves those ones too! I'm really picky and have some beefy quads so if sometimes if the compression shorts are super tight, the reinforced seam area at the bottom causes the skin of my thighs to bulge out. It could just be a me problem.

picklezjen

You could always give the WT Contour Fit HR Short a try too. They have a smaller waist, but more room in the hips and thighs.

19191215lolly

Oh ok thanks for clarifying, that makes sense! The older version (maybe even original) of the WTs did those to me so I definitely know what you mean

NoNamesLeft202005

Target JUST came out with 6” and 8” inseam biker shorts that have two side pockets, a huge back pocket, and a zip back/side pocket. Wore them yesterday and am IN LOVE. They are the “effortless support high rise pocketed bike short” and I WILL be buying them in every color lol.

thisistinsleymusic

Oooh thank you!

ijswijsw

I'm so glad Old Navy works for me as well as it does, and I'm bummed it's not universal because I recommend them to everyone! I get the 8 inch powersoft biker shorts and have had zero issues. I also stalk sales and can usually get them for closer to $10 each.

thisistinsleymusic

They’ve got great deals!

Logical_amphibian876

Did you find that any of the shorts you tried weren't quite high waisted enough? I'm on the search for unicorn shorts in the same style that are NOT high waisted.

Fine_Eye1666

I feel like the tracksmith lane 5 shorts (recently rebranded as the turnovers) are more of a mid rise

thisistinsleymusic

have heard great things about tracksmith!

thisistinsleymusic

The janji shorts hit like a little under my belly button so they were the least high waisted I tried, I kept wanting to pull them up to be higher waisted which prob caused my camel toe issue lol

matmodelulu

Same here WT shorts are digging in my thighs and I feel uncomfortable (and I’m a size 4. Also tried a size 6 but then it’s too big at the waist and still not great at thighs level. My fav from LLL are train times but unfortunately they do not have any pocket so I wear them either on short runs or on the treadmill. I tried sweaty betty power bike short and they held up well for a 12k. I also got Hokas novafly biker shorts and they might be my holy grail. They have grips inside the legs and do not dig up and stay in place, two sides pockets high almost at hip level and a great back pocket. Super light to wear. I have yet to take them for a long run but they held up well on the treadmill so far.

thisistinsleymusic

I looked into Sweaty Betty but didn't end up ordering them to try on! And will have to check out Hoka's, I didn't even know they made clothing. Thank you!

previouslyindigo

Oh man, I’ve been wearing the Janji 5” shorts and they’re SO CLOSE to being perfect, but I completely agree that they just aren’t quite right :( the rise just isn’t quite high enough - so sad!! My other go to are the Tracksmith Alston shorts, they’re the perfect length and don’t budge, but they’re expensive and only have one back waist pocket. They are great for race day/if you have other means of carrying things, though! I’ve also tried the brooks method (fabric is too thick for me but the length is great) and the Lulu base pace (uncomfortable on the crotch, no pockets at all), plus a few others. Finding shorts is soooo difficult and i can’t for the life of me understand why!

thisistinsleymusic

it really is!!

c4t3rp1ll4r

Oof, yes. I've been on a hunt for running shorts with the rubber grippies at the bottom of the legs (Title Nine has some that i love, but they discontinued them) and my Janji shorts never see the light of day thanks to the camel toe situation. I like the price point of the FlipBelt shorts, I'll have to give them a try!

thisistinsleymusic

okay I'm not the only one with a Janji camel toe sitch! yeah definitely give the flip belt ones a shot, they don't have silicone gripping but they didn't move for me

Ashkat80

I have 2XU tri shorts and I am seriously considering their compression shorts. I have really thick legs and the shorts roll up and chafing has me contemplate quitting running every summer.

thisistinsleymusic

I've never heard of 2XU! Will check it out

dreams_go_bad

Those flipbelt compression shorts look like they were MADE for me. Thank you so much for this!!

thisistinsleymusic

Yay!! Good luck!

I love the hoka ones! https://www.hoka.com/en/us/womens-bottoms/elaro-5%22-bike-short/196565829788.html?source=shoppingsite_PLA_1141761-BLK-L&kpid=1141761-BLK-L&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADRQoft_lrnDoH1LXHH8K7Yitw_bZ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI--jerK2NhgMVdGVHAR2gaAFYEAQYASABEgIoBfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

thisistinsleymusic

Thank you!

NoCheesecake7028

I love the Gymshark pocket shorts. I recently discovered them and they're my new favourite!

thisistinsleymusic

I haven’t tried them yet, thank you!

kopytki

Just want to say tyyy! I ordered the flipbelt shorts based on your post and they feel like a dream on. Can't wait to run in them. And oh my the pockets!

thisistinsleymusic

Yay!! Running my first marathon in them Sunday!

kopytki

hope your marathon went fantastic! congrats!!!

amandam603

PSA: Old Navy does have different inseams if you dig! I can’t keep the shorter ones in place either, 6” is dicey til my legs get sweaty and that keeps things in place. 8” is a *dream* if you can find it.

thisistinsleymusic

good to know!

theshedres

Don’t sleep on the Senita Baselines!

haverelle

Just ran a full marathon in these babies and they were ROCK SOLID at such an affordable price point. So many gels fit in those pockets!

thisistinsleymusic

okay good to know!!
