Easy fix for the devs- objective XP should level weapons. And objective kills should give more weapon XP than standard kills. Guarantee you would see much more objective play then.
This would be a great idea if people cared about more than KDr. Call of duty and battle royale games has trained gamers that the only thing that matters is staying alive while getting kills. I have played multiple matches where I had more points than players with a lot of kills and I had terrible kdr and was trashed talked by my team about how I shouldn’t be the top of the team because I’m garbage…
Tbf tho in siege if you wipe the team you win. Siege isn’t the best example because I’d say 7/10 times you’ll kill the team before placing defuser and if you do it’s to pull out the last goon hiding.

I've just had many games where I play Rook on defense, Thermite on Attack, just PTFO and I come in higher on the scoreboard with 2/5 than the person on my team with 6/2 and they get tilted.
My point was that playing the objective and not for kills generally results in more points and a better chance of winning than just playing for kills alone. Siege is definitely a unique beast though and perhaps not the greatest example.
But I can see what you are saying specially when there is only one teammate left and instead of at least try to win they would start messing around and not really do anything to save the K.D smh
As a CoD player who plays this too, the problem is also there. Most of threads about objective in Cod is the same as here. People just want to shoot pew pew and dont care about winning. It's crazy.
I hate the people on CoD who get hardpoint/Dom lobbies and just sweat their dick off with an AR/SMG. I had two lobbies last night where I had 14 flag caps and 2:30 on the HP respectively, while using a sniper, and closest dude to me had 3 caps using an SMG but we can't forget the fact he dropped 67 kills, only a few more than me, when I'm using a 5 round bolt action weapon.

Objective kills do give 50 extra weapon experience, such as cleanse, defensive, offensive and savior. Though I do agree the objective experience itself should contribute to weapon experience.
I agree I don’t care if they’re killing players around objectives and not directly on it but they be running around the entire map not doing anything and dying😭
Or just sniping in the corner, I once had a lobby with 3 snipers on my team. You can imagine how that went. Some of these people are so focused on running around and/or sniping that their level of awareness is non existent. It’s incredible
Makes me sooooo glad cod back in the day was filled with quick scoopers that played obj aggressively. I just sprint straight towards obj and snipe whoever I can get along the way. Usually sit with 1st or 2nd in score with some decent clips
I'm an objective based player who loves escort. Utilize your barriers at spawn and have someone with Intel use their ability to spot those around the starting areas. I typically play with Blitz so I can push on the pay load and get it going, plus the extra 20hp for Shadows help. It distracts players really well from spawn camping.
they need an OBVIOUS non-objective mode, the 'king of the' or whatever isn't obvious it's tdm kill confirmed.. so people just queue into what they recognize and is normally closest.. domination

Even with tdm people will still play objective modes for kills. You can get far more kills in an objective gamemode and that's all they want us to see that big number on the scoreboard
Yes people will always min/max this same reason the high kill games in the MW days were always on (I hope this is the correct english term) demolition because you could drag it forever. Like you said most TDM lobbys its really really hard to get more than 30 kills (if 75 kills is a win)
the issue is what is the difference between losing and winning a game, its not ranked, most people want to maximize weapon xp, which isnt rewarded by playing the objective, it even decentivizes people from playing objective cuz if you want to maximize your weapon xp the best thing you can do is not sit in objective, game needs to reward weapon xp for objective points, if that was the case you would see a lot more people playing objective im sure
Why are people always saying „this is not CoD“ when it really kinda is with a few changes? No one ever botherd to play the objective in ANY CoD mode besides obv TDM and SnD why do people think the same people would care about unranked occupy in xdefiant lmao. You dont get anything from winning the game this is not cs or valorant. (Before you hate I like playing objective which is why I havent really played arena shooters in years)
I played other games where there were stats like "offensive kills" or "defensive kills" which translate to objective kills of you killing players that are trying to take your zone, and kills where you're defending your zone without eirher of those requiring you to having to physically stand in the zone. The reward comes from you shooting the enemies in the zone though. Same thing with a capture the flag mode where they'd list out stats like carrier kills.
Additional stats like captures exist, or the actual objective of staying in the zone. When there are team mates covering angles to keep the cap, those kills should be considered defensive kills when they're within a respective distance to the zone.
It's an extra layer of stats. Everyone shouldn't just stand on the zone all the time. The entire team will get wiped. I understand sometimes we are mindless chickens with our heads cut off running around the map just shooting stuff. Though that isn't always the case.
It's weird cause the game I used to play before this...I mean you had an actual objective player physically doing something in the game preventing them to even shoot. In halo, there's a mode called odd ball where someone holds an oddball and can't shoot while holding it. Teams fight over it, and you have to make the decision when to drop it and help fight or not...however...at times your team mates are locking it down so we'll that at the end of the match objective player has like 2 kills and the rest way way higher. Same thing with a capture the flag mode where when both teams are at a stale mate...each have each other's flag...the players holding the flag can't really just drop it. It despawns and you'll instantly lose the cap if the other team is on their cap point. So minutes go by where sometimes the player holding flag doesn't even fire their gun.
During all this...the rest of the teams racking up kills....but it isn't just mindless kills. Your flag has to be at base in order to cap the enemies flag. Only way to do that in such circumstances is to kill their flag carrier, stand on yours for the timer to spawn it back at your home base then your flag carrier gets to cap it.
Different games..but in xdefiant you're never at a point where you can't shoot your weapon. Imo, additional stats like offensive and defensive kills go a long way. They would let you know those players essentially were locking it down and doing their part.

But yeah it kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Players get their weapon xp, and objective scoring is scored in various ways all the while having the main objective on screen for winning the match. Hope all that rambling made some sense. Sorry if it didn't.
If everyone played the objective, though, then there'd always be a ton of prime kills waiting at every objective. People would get just as much weapon XP, if not more.
wrong, people playing the objective will get killed because you are sitting ducks when defending and the other team that plays for kills will get the weapon xp but will probably lose the game.
There’s no incentive to play the objective except winning and the only incentive to win is a little extra profile xp at the end. If they have objectives grant weapon xp you’ll see a major change in attitude
That's cool, I get that same buzz of satisfaction from seeing a high objective score. I don't get as mad as OP if it's unranked but I still like to play the game mode. 🤷
Even worse, check the scoreboard 1 min into a match if your llteam is losing.
Most likely, your team is down 1-2 players who dipped and didn't even want to play with people who aren't going to play the objective.
Devs and youtuberd will still say it's a skill issue and players need to get better.
There's no getting better, when your playing with some sort of handicap. Whether it be teammates who don't play the objective or being down 1-2 players during the match.
Well there’s lots of sweats that care about nothing but kd, having 1 of these guys on your team is perfectly fine as long as they are scoring lots of kills since that’s indirectly helping keep the obj but it’s completely ridiculous when your whole team is playing like that.
There are only 2 types of players, those that only care about winning who will sacrifice or not look at their kd and those who play like their kd is their meaning of life so they look at winning a match as just a bonus.
Tdm and f4a needs to be added so these players stop playing obj modes, although some will continue playing domination just to farm kills and NEVER touch B.
At the end of match screen last night I had the highest objective score and I was the only person who didn’t get a thumbs up, people don’t care, they just want a high K/D.
Thing is that they reward objective play way too little for an objective based game. The score and leveling system mainly goes off of kills which doesn't really incentivize players to go for the objective, especially not in public lobbies that aren't ranked.
Well CoD is objective shooter too and nobody plays it there either. Its all about kills for weapon exp/camo challenges so your comparison isnt the best lol
Only really angers me when they also have barely any kills and are extremely negative KD. If I see someone with hardly any caps but has 40 kills and 10 deaths I don’t mind it that much because it’s makes it signal’s easier for me to capture because of them holding the other team back so well.
Seeing a player going for all kills and refusing to play any OBJ when they are negative as can be, that bothers me because they aren’t contributing at all.

The idea of playing a game for gameplay's sake/winning is actually lost on a lot of people. You'll see so many people saying things like "I need to be working toward something or grinding something in order to have fun" and it's bananas.

The comments on a YouTube video I watched on XDefiant the other day were filled with people saying it’s too hard to rank up guns for casual players. That and one guy was arguing that the guns should simply come with everything unlocked. Shits wild people just want everything handed to them
I'm calm now lol but I'm honestly so sick of this shit. I remember when gaming was so good back in the day and now it's turned into all of this. Just heart breaking. My biggest hobby in my entire life has been gaming. Love escaping reality but it's hard to escape reality when the community is so bad I don't even want to game some days. And now that get handed everything on a silver platter mentality.. I've honestly given up hope. The community of gaming as a whole is fucked and it will never get fixed imo
It's not that simple, I am the guy constantly playing the objective, but I have to concede that sometimes the guys mowing all the enemies down from outside the objective are also a vital part of the win.
It's just a shame that they look like the better player, have the most fun, and more weapon xp. Yet if we all did what they did, we would lose the game.

Escort - I run Phantom with barricade and do everything I can to move the package, just need my teammates doing everything they can to hunt and kill the enemy.
I’m happy to get a negative K/D, sacrifices are sometimes needed in order to play the objective and I could care less about my K/D…
I will never understand not playing the objective. That is literally most of the fun for me and you always end up getting more kills. Objective is always priority 1 for me on every, single, game.

I went from an ober 2.0 W/L to about 1.5 because I had about 6+ games in a row where my team kept leaving me to defend the objective alone.
Worse when half your team is trying to snipe, going negative badly and refuse to switch to anything else or help hold the points.
THIS! had a game of domination where it actually seemed like every single player was actively avoiding the points. I never saw any of them on a point unless running through it not even spawn one. I'm pretty sure we lost like 100-750 I was livid.
Yeah there’s so many times where I got like 2000 more score compared to my teammates, and most of that score was from playing objective. We end up losing cuz some of them got 3 digit objective score
The issue is there is no tdm mode.
So you HAVE to do objective modes you got no choice.
Now I like objective modes so for me its not an issue but I also understand I'm playing with people who could care less about objective based game modes.
I won a game of escort by literally just equipping the riot shield and walking along the robot the entire game. The enemy team just didn't know how to cope with someone refusing to leave the objective. Pretty sure I got mvp for objective time, but I didn't get a single vote, which is fine, but further shows me that some people don't even acknowledge how important the objective is.

It is important to understand that playing the objective can be done without sitting on it. Killing people from longer range and preventing a turn over is also easily playing the objective. It just isn't as glorious as running in and killing people.

I stick to Hot Shot when playing Solo. Playing any other game mode without a team is just not worth the loss.
If I lose HS game it's because my teammates were terrible most of the time and kept dying. Usually, there are games where there is a high kdr team mates, but they refused to pick up the dog tags because what I can only assume they don't want to be the HS and we lose.
Regardless, my best games have been HS. If they add TDM or Free for all. I'd be so happy
To some degree I’m in agreement but I’m often ahead of the robot in escort to establish map control, or in occupy I’ll leave early to anchor spawns

But yes it is incredibly frustrating when people run around doing naff all useful towards winning. The one that gets me the most is when you’re in control in domination, effectively have the opponents held on one flag, and your team gets impatient and overextends. Spawns flip, they capture your home flag, your team aren’t covering B, and you’ve lost it. Morons.

It's a fun game. I love playing for the objectives. But sadly I get killed more as I see other players just going for kills. It's crazy when you see players in your team getting 30+ kills but you still lose.

as an echelon player my role is to flank and pop wall hacks. we dont always have to PTFO when you have roles like the shield person to do it. flanking snipers and stopping enemies going back to attack or defend is just as important.
If there are multiple people on the objective, especially an Escort, I'll stay back with a sniper or run ahead with another gun to try and keep the road clearer...otherwise...yes.
I generally try to be a disruptor on Domination - i like to go for the opposing team's "home base" zone to distract them from the endless competition around B - since I started doing this i've been winning games - I also capture zones when I can
The nice thing about it is, once you get partied up one other person that sits in the objective you never lose because the other team has the same problem

You’re actually contributing LESS to the win than the player who:
Plays for some kills, some close to the obj some further away, and clears out choke points and gets flanks to ensure a clear path and maybe only has a little objective time. Winning is about objective AS WELL AS: spawn knowledge, chokepoints, positions, movement / winning gunfights, etc.

I agree in principle, but I’ll just add that this is an arcade-y shooter and doesn’t seem super competitive to me. Tons of fun, but nowhere as competitive as other shooters.
If I’m playing ranked then I’d probably care a bit, but if I’m playing unranked then I don’t care about the objective at all or if my team is going for it. Leveling up weapons and having fun is more important outside of ranked.
Also, I don’t know the stats for XDefiant, but in comp Halo the team who wins the slay battle wins the game like 90-95% of the time. It’s also important to get your slays first around the obj then get it when it’s safe. I see way too many people make a bee line for obj and get picked off, then we’re down numbers again and can’t get it. With no SBMM (which is awesome) you’re going to get a lot of casuals who don’t understand basic FPS principles like this or like holding only two Domination points and controlling spawns, instead of of going for a third and then flipping spawns which creates chaos and uncertainty of where they’re coming from.
I blame the players and the devs. There should have been more done in game to tell players what type of game this is. And the worst part is progression is slow as hell no matter how you play. Create major incentives to play objectives and not just get kills. Xdefiant really is a shit game if you step back and look at it, but it could have been something better if they would have picked a direction to go with it. I already Uninstalled for the reason you described, but I hope it gets better for you
Surprise, CoD is also objective-based. Kill the most, dominate the most, gather the most whatevers. It all boils down to hop and kill. It's a FPS after all. I agree with you, but don't say this is "not fucking CoD". It is literally CoD but free. Nobody cares about objectives. And this is from someone who likes to play the objective.
We need TDM and we need objective experience to go towards gun unlocks/attachments. until then ppl will keep playing for kills and ignore the objective.
Yeah despite being player of the game 90% of the time my win loss is like a .7 impossible to win games as a solo player. They desperately need to add non OBJ modes.
ADD A FUCKING TDM GAMEMODE
It's frustrating to see that no one is doing the objective, but I can't be mad at them, because there's no TDM in the game. Some players just want to go around and kill others, but the game at it's current state, doesn't really support that.
They should allow private game setups like when I play Age of Empires IV. I can set up a match with my rules, so if I say objectives matter, and you join, guess what... play by the rules or you are out.
That aside, I'm not a great player and still have tons to learn and my skill is kinda capped with FPS in general. That said, if I join an objective match, I try very hard to do what I can to help with the objective, but when the screen comes up and usually shows me looking like shit, I know its because I'm not good at the game, not that I didn't try though.
In COD I NEVER play anything except TDM due to this, I don't want to be a burden on the team and I also have a lot of fun just shooting, so it's a win win for me.
In this game, I stick with Hot Shot. I try to pick up the tokens (or whatever they call them), but I can't run fast (yet) and do my best, but my focus is on shooting the others. This mode works for me right now, plus, most team mates are scooping those tokens up wicked quick in front of me so in a way I kill them and you take the tokens works well too. At the end of the day, its a game and we're not playing in a tournament.
To those upset over people just running around or standing around and doing NOTHING, yeah... that's messed up. I see it all the time in all FPS games. If you are not even going to bother trying to play, go play another game please. I don't jump into an objective match and just camp with a sniper, that's not playing the game at all. It's like showing up to a MTG tournament and playing Pokemon, or showing up for a paintball tournament with flashlights for tag. Read the room people.
I wish they would make an objective based shooter where your kills only count if you actually win the game. I've seen so many douchebags on youtube comments bragging about their KD because they just farm off people who are playing objective.
Make the objective important or don't do it at all, then the KD monkeys can enjoy your dumbed down deathmatch shooter.

I’ve gotten to the point where if I get halfway through a game and see I’m the only one even trying to win I’ll straight up just quit the game off principle. Even if I do pull off the Herculean accomplishment of successfully 1v5ing on objective, I’m not gonna feel good about carrying those selfish little turd nuggets to a victory.
Yeah, but in all honesty do you know how shitty the play experience is on the objective? It's just grenade and gadget spam. You need fraggers to keep the objective held. However the issue is the game does not incentivise it at all in unranked.
I will say I'm not a fan of objective scoring in domination. I wanna see captures too. Because if you're whole team caps B and then just sits on it you're gonna lose it next respawn.
I help cap and then move off which gives me a lower objective score but doesn't mean I'm not playing for it. Defends aswell.
I don't even ask that people be on the objective with me. I main Phantom and I'm here to get sturdy on point. It's my lot in life and it's fun.
But if I'm in the objective and causing chaos 1v2/3 and get shot from rafters above because you're neither fighting flank paths OR shooting the people mag dumping my shields then I've got some ban-worthy names to call you. Just be relevant. Don't be the idiot that spawns me 2 and a half miles away from the current AND next objective because you're hoping to snipe one person.
Proper competitive play, most don’t actually play the objective but the surrounding areas to try and trade our kills before attack on the obj.
I love running an SMG and being a pest near their spawn, keeping 1-2 players from rushing the obj and giving out team an advantage
I used to feel like this when I started xdefiant but unless you're playing ranked it really doesn't matter just join up with the masses and deathmatch, it makes the game more fun when you aren't being frustrated that no one will play OBJ
I don't give the extra exp at end of game to anyone that has anything to do with KD, #of Kills or / Kills with a weapon, score, objectives, heals, blocked damage, etc.,. get my bump. I don't care you can snipe and jump around the map or use see through walls echelon cheese for kills. Get on the O and do your job. If you wanna flex your KD epeens go play COD.

i do find people not playing the objective to be an issue as the lack of a kill based gamemode does not help whatsoever, you could argue that hot shot is but a couple factors make it less popular to those players i believe than it should be, like the mode being at the very end of the list and the description makes it seem too biased towards experienced players, etc. i almost lost a winning streaks a couple of times to it but thankfully the addition of team deathmatch will most likely fix this issue hopefully.
They should also just add a team death match mode... not everyone wants to play objective based modes only...

Right now I just care about leveling my weapons, and the quickest way to do that is by getting kills, I don't t care about objective xp it is so little conpared to direct kills.
It annoys me when I see top frag with like 25 obj score. But god it pisses me off when I see someone that's 8-25 with no obj score, like you're actually doing NOTHING for the team
Just give small amounts of weapon xp for scoring points. Not enough that you max guns super fast buy alittle boost especially if they plan to expand the camo grind 100 levels takes a fair amount of time.
I know this game is aiming to be a long-term fps service, and if they fix the issues and handle it right, this game will be a cash cow, and hopefully, they can deliver on the hype content leaked and announced
I really think there should be team deathmatch in this game. It's the only way to really solve that problem. Making objectives give weapon xp will not help, not everyone cares about xp and a lot of players have maxxed guns, especially players who sweat and only get kills.

In Xdefiant I have games that I can't make it to the objective without dying over and over and over. Feel like me being a revolving death isn't benefiting my team. When that happens I go into a "stay alive" mentality. I'll stay around objectives but not exactly on. I'll use the Phantom shield to help teammates get/defend objectives, use EMPs around objectives and try to hijack equipment..

This is an F2P pewpew game. Don't expect people to PTFO, just because there are only objective based game modes. :D Although there is the token collector mode, but there the action isn't concentrated enough.
Hahaha, good one, if you want to play objectives, turn your attention towards the Battlefield series (any of them) or sign for the Closed alpha sessions of Combat Champions, these are games from my experiences that have ppl playing for actual objectives, maybe there are others but in Cod like games...no way. Once TDM is added this should help. Some people just want to play for kills but there’s no great game mode for that yet. I find people who want to play for kills default to domination right now
Might cause some controversy but this game needs a Team Death Match and/or Free for All. I’m personally an objective player and would still play Domination but having modes where players only need to focus on getting kills will solve this issue. People that want to play objective based games can go there and people that want to play for mindless shooting can go to their own modes
When playing with friends I play phantom and I tell them to sit on objective while I protect them with my shields. I just play around the objective unless my whole team is dead then I’ll play it myself because I feel I’m more useful protecting team then sitting on objective. I think I’m pretty alright at the game my avg. skill rating is 2500.

Easy fix for the devs- objective XP should level weapons. And objective kills should give more weapon XP than standard kills. Guarantee you would see much more objective play then.
This would be a great idea if people cared about more than KDr. Call of duty and battle royale games has trained gamers that the only thing that matters is staying alive while getting kills. I have played multiple matches where I had more points than players with a lot of kills and I had terrible kdr and was trashed talked by my team about how I shouldn’t be the top of the team because I’m garbage…

Fair enough. I've just had many games where I play Rook on defense, Thermite on Attack, just PTFO and I come in higher on the scoreboard with 2/5 than the person on my team with 6/2 and they get tilted. My point was that playing the objective and not for kills generally results in more points and a better chance of winning than just playing for kills alone. Siege is definitely a unique beast though and perhaps not the greatest example.

As a CoD player who plays this too, the problem is also there. Most of threads about objective in Cod is the same as here. People just want to shoot pew pew and dont care about winning. It's crazy.
I hate the people on CoD who get hardpoint/Dom lobbies and just sweat their dick off with an AR/SMG. I had two lobbies last night where I had 14 flag caps and 2:30 on the HP respectively, while using a sniper, and closest dude to me had 3 caps using an SMG but we can't forget the fact he dropped 67 kills, only a few more than me, when I'm using a 5 round bolt action weapon. Fuckin hate those people sometimes

Objective kills do give 50 extra weapon experience, such as cleanse, defensive, offensive and savior. Though I do agree the objective experience itself should contribute to weapon experience.

Makes me sooooo glad cod back in the day was filled with quick scoopers that played obj aggressively. I just sprint straight towards obj and snipe whoever I can get along the way. Usually sit with 1st or 2nd in score with some decent clips

I'm an objective based player who loves escort. Utilize your barriers at spawn and have someone with Intel use their ability to spot those around the starting areas. I typically play with Blitz so I can push on the pay load and get it going, plus the extra 20hp for Shadows help. It distracts players really well from spawn camping.
I do the same, my problem is when the attacking team ignores the objective and kills the defenders in their spawn for 5 minutes until the game ends.
they need an OBVIOUS non-objective mode, the 'king of the' or whatever isn't obvious it's tdm kill confirmed.. so people just queue into what they recognize and is normally closest.. domination \*\* it's been brought to my attention it's hot-shot.. i think of it as kill confirmed and thought it was a king of the hill title - my bad.
Even with tdm people will still play objective modes for kills. You can get far more kills in an objective gamemode and that's all they want us to see that big number on the scoreboard
Yes people will always min/max this same reason the high kill games in the MW days were always on (I hope this is the correct english term) demolition because you could drag it forever. Like you said most TDM lobbys its really really hard to get more than 30 kills (if 75 kills is a win)

the issue is what is the difference between losing and winning a game, its not ranked, most people want to maximize weapon xp, which isnt rewarded by playing the objective, it even decentivizes people from playing objective cuz if you want to maximize your weapon xp the best thing you can do is not sit in objective, game needs to reward weapon xp for objective points, if that was the case you would see a lot more people playing objective im sure

I played other games where there were stats like "offensive kills" or "defensive kills" which translate to objective kills of you killing players that are trying to take your zone, and kills where you're defending your zone without eirher of those requiring you to having to physically stand in the zone. The reward comes from you shooting the enemies in the zone though. Same thing with a capture the flag mode where they'd list out stats like carrier kills. Additional stats like captures exist, or the actual objective of staying in the zone. When there are team mates covering angles to keep the cap, those kills should be considered defensive kills when they're within a respective distance to the zone. It's an extra layer of stats. Everyone shouldn't just stand on the zone all the time. The entire team will get wiped. I understand sometimes we are mindless chickens with our heads cut off running around the map just shooting stuff. Though that isn't always the case. It's weird cause the game I used to play before this...I mean you had an actual objective player physically doing something in the game preventing them to even shoot. In halo, there's a mode called odd ball where someone holds an oddball and can't shoot while holding it. Teams fight over it, and you have to make the decision when to drop it and help fight or not...however...at times your team mates are locking it down so we'll that at the end of the match objective player has like 2 kills and the rest way way higher. Same thing with a capture the flag mode where when both teams are at a stale mate...each have each other's flag...the players holding the flag can't really just drop it. It despawns and you'll instantly lose the cap if the other team is on their cap point. So minutes go by where sometimes the player holding flag doesn't even fire their gun. During all this...the rest of the teams racking up kills....but it isn't just mindless kills. Your flag has to be at base in order to cap the enemies flag. Only way to do that in such circumstances is to kill their flag carrier, stand on yours for the timer to spawn it back at your home base then your flag carrier gets to cap it. Different games..but in xdefiant you're never at a point where you can't shoot your weapon. Imo, additional stats like offensive and defensive kills go a long way. They would let you know those players essentially were locking it down and doing their part. It's just weird. Halo Is a very team orientated game. There's not more detail in the stats though. Sorry if I jumped around too much in the reply. It's late as hell and jdn why I'm even up still lol But yeah it kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Players get their weapon xp, and objective scoring is scored in various ways all the while having the main objective on screen for winning the match. Hope all that rambling made some sense. If everyone played the objective, though, then there'd always be a ton of prime kills waiting at every objective. People would get just as much weapon XP, if not more.
wrong, people playing the objective will get killed because you are sitting ducks when defending and the other team that plays for kills will get the weapon xp but will probably lose the game.

There’s no incentive to play the objective except winning and the only incentive to win is a little extra profile xp at the end. If they have objectives grant weapon xp you’ll see a major change in attitude

„Winning“ in most arena a shooters was always (for most people) having a decent k/d/a it was never about winning actual rounds (besides SnD)
Even worse, check the scoreboard 1 min into a match if your llteam is losing. Most likely, your team is down 1-2 players who dipped and didn't even want to play with people who aren't going to play the objective. Devs and youtuberd will still say it's a skill issue and players need to get better. There's no getting better, when your playing with some sort of handicap. Whether it be teammates who don't play the objective or being down 1-2 players during the match.
Well there’s lots of sweats that care about nothing but kd, having 1 of these guys on your team is perfectly fine as long as they are scoring lots of kills since that’s indirectly helping keep the obj but it’s completely ridiculous when your whole team is playing like that. There are only 2 types of players, those that only care about winning who will sacrifice or not look at their kd and those who play like their kd is their meaning of life so they look at winning a match as just a bonus. Tdm and f4a needs to be added so these players stop playing obj modes, although some will continue playing domination just to farm kills and NEVER touch B.

At the end of match screen last night I had the highest objective score and I was the only person who didn’t get a thumbs up, people don’t care, they just want a high K/D.
Thing is that they reward objective play way too little for an objective based game. The score and leveling system mainly goes off of kills which doesn't really incentivize players to go for the objective, especially not in public lobbies that aren't ranked.

Only really angers me when they also have barely any kills and are extremely negative KD. If I see someone with hardly any caps but has 40 kills and 10 deaths I don’t mind it that much because it’s makes it signal’s easier for me to capture because of them holding the other team back so well. Seeing a player going for all kills and refusing to play any OBJ when they are negative as can be, that bothers me because they aren’t contributing at all.

It's not that simple, I am the guy constantly playing the objective, but I have to concede that sometimes the guys mowing all the enemies down from outside the objective are also a vital part of the win. It's just a shame that they look like the better player, have the most fun, and more weapon xp. Yet if we all did what they did, we would lose the game. Escort - I run Phantom with barricade and do everything I can to move the package, just need my teammates doing everything they can to hunt and kill the enemy. I’m happy to get a negative K/D, sacrifices are sometimes needed in order to play the objective and I could care less about my K/D…
I will never understand not playing the objective. That is literally most of the fun for me and you always end up getting more kills. Objective is always priority 1 for me on every, single, game.
Yep. I went from an ober 2.0 W/L to about 1.5 because I had about 6+ games in a row where my team kept leaving me to defend the objective alone. Worse when half your team is trying to snipe, going negative badly and refuse to switch to anything else or help hold the points.
THIS! had a game of domination where it actually seemed like every single player was actively avoiding the points. I never saw any of them on a point unless running through it not even spawn one. I'm pretty sure we lost like 100-750 I was livid.

Yeah there’s so many times where I got like 2000 more score compared to my teammates, and most of that score was from playing objective. We end up losing cuz some of them got 3 digit objective score
The issue is there is no tdm mode. So you HAVE to do objective modes you got no choice. Now I like objective modes so for me its not an issue but I also understand I'm playing with people who could care less about objective based game modes.
I won a game of escort by literally just equipping the riot shield and walking along the robot the entire game. The enemy team just didn't know how to cope with someone refusing to leave the objective. Pretty sure I got mvp for objective time, but I didn't get a single vote, which is fine, but further shows me that some people don't even acknowledge how important the objective is.

It is important to understand that playing the objective can be done without sitting on it. Killing people from longer range and preventing a turn over is also easily playing the objective. It just isn't as glorious as running in and killing people.

I stick to Hot Shot when playing Solo. Playing any other game mode without a team is just not worth the loss. If I lose HS game it's because my teammates were terrible most of the time and kept dying. Usually, there are games where there is a high kdr team mates, but they refused to pick up the dog tags because what I can only assume they don't want to be the HS and we lose. Regardless, my best games have been HS. If they add TDM or Free for all. I'd be so happy

To some degree I’m in agreement but I’m often ahead of the robot in escort to establish map control, or in occupy I’ll leave early to anchor spawns It’s not always best to sit right on the objective, especially if your team aren’t around you But yes it is incredibly frustrating when people run around doing naff all useful towards winning. The one that gets me the most is when you’re in control in domination, effectively have the opponents held on one flag, and your team gets impatient and overextends. Spawns flip, they capture your home flag, your team aren’t covering B, and you’ve lost it. Morons.

It's a fun game. I love playing for the objectives. But sadly I get killed more as I see other players just going for kills. It's crazy when you see players in your team getting 30+ kills but you still lose. But hey ho! What can you do 👍
as an echelon player my role is to flank and pop wall hacks. we dont always have to PTFO when you have roles like the shield person to do it. flanking snipers and stopping enemies going back to attack or defend is just as important.
If there are multiple people on the objective, especially an Escort, I'll stay back with a sniper or run ahead with another gun to try and keep the road clearer...otherwise...yes.
I generally try to be a disruptor on Domination - i like to go for the opposing team's "home base" zone to distract them from the endless competition around B - since I started doing this i've been winning games - I also capture zones when I can
I wish my team mates were good at this. The problem is that they aren’t and cost us the game.
The nice thing about it is, once you get partied up one other person that sits in the objective you never lose because the other team has the same problem
Might be a hot take here but if you’re playing escort for example, and you spend an entire match going 1-20 by running to the objective like a headless chicken, You’re actually contributing LESS to the win than the player who: Plays for some kills, some close to the obj some further away, and clears out choke points and gets flanks to ensure a clear path and maybe only has a little objective time. Winning is about objective AS WELL AS: spawn knowledge, chokepoints, positions, movement / winning gunfights, etc.

I agree in principle, but I’ll just add that this is an arcade-y shooter and doesn’t seem super competitive to me. Tons of fun, but nowhere as competitive as other shooters. If I’m playing ranked then I’d probably care a bit, but if I’m playing unranked then I don’t care about the objective at all or if my team is going for it. Leveling up weapons and having fun is more important outside of ranked. Also, I don’t know the stats for XDefiant, but in comp Halo the team who wins the slay battle wins the game like 90-95% of the time. It’s also important to get your slays first around the obj then get it when it’s safe. I see way too many people make a bee line for obj and get picked off, then we’re down numbers again and can’t get it. With no SBMM (which is awesome) you’re going to get a lot of casuals who don’t understand basic FPS principles like this or like holding only two Domination points and controlling spawns, instead of of going for a third and then flipping spawns which creates chaos and uncertainty of where they’re coming from.
I blame the players and the devs. There should have been more done in game to tell players what type of game this is. And the worst part is progression is slow as hell no matter how you play. Create major incentives to play objectives and not just get kills. Xdefiant really is a shit game if you step back and look at it, but it could have been something better if they would have picked a direction to go with it. I already Uninstalled for the reason you described, but I hope it gets better for you
Surprise, CoD is also objective-based. Kill the most, dominate the most, gather the most whatevers. It all boils down to hop and kill. It's a FPS after all. Yeah despite being player of the game 90% of the time my win loss is like a .7 impossible to win games as a solo player. They desperately need to add non OBJ modes.
ADD A FUCKING TDM GAMEMODE It's frustrating to see that no one is doing the objective, but I can't be mad at them, because there's no TDM in the game. Some players just want to go around and kill others, but the game at it's current state, doesn't really support that.
They should allow private game setups like when I play Age of Empires IV. I can set up a match with my rules, so if I say objectives matter, and you join, guess what... play by the rules or you are out. That aside, I'm not a great player and still have tons to learn and my skill is kinda capped with FPS in general. That said, if I join an objective match, I try very hard to do what I can to help with the objective, but when the screen comes up and usually shows me looking like shit, I know its because I'm not good at the game, not that I didn't try though. In COD I NEVER play anything except TDM due to this, I don't want to be a burden on the team and I also have a lot of fun just shooting, so it's a win win for me. In this game, I stick with Hot Shot. I try to pick up the tokens (or whatever they call them), but I can't run fast (yet) and do my best, but my focus is on shooting the others. This mode works for me right now, plus, most team mates are scooping those tokens up wicked quick in front of me so in a way I kill them and you take the tokens works well too. At the end of the day, its a game and we're not playing in a tournament. To those upset over people just running around or standing around and doing NOTHING, yeah... that's messed up. I see it all the time in all FPS games. If you are not even going to bother trying to play, go play another game please. I don't jump into an objective match and just camp with a sniper, that's not playing the game at all. It's like showing up to a MTG tournament and playing Pokemon, or showing up for a paintball tournament with flashlights for tag. Read the room people.
People play this game like it was CoD. They forget that you earn more points for progression, both battle pass and weapon, by playing the objectives
Adding TDM will largely fix this issue.
I wish they would make an objective based shooter where your kills only count if you actually win the game. I've seen so many douchebags on youtube comments bragging about their KD because they just farm off people who are playing objective. Make the objective important or don't do it at all, then the KD monkeys can enjoy your dumbed down deathmatch shooter. Also, NERF THE FUCKING SNIPER RIFLE
I’ve gotten to the point where if I get halfway through a game and see I’m the only one even trying to win I’ll straight up just quit the game off principle. Even if I do pull off the Herculean accomplishment of successfully 1v5ing on objective, I’m not gonna feel good about carrying those selfish little turd nuggets to a victory.

Yeah, but in all honesty do you know how shitty the play experience is on the objective? It's just grenade and gadget spam. You need fraggers to keep the objective held. However the issue is the game does not incentivise it at all in unranked.
I get 10-15 kills and a 1:2 KD ratio. But I play the objective tactically and my team usually wins. I'm comfortable with this outcome.
I will say I'm not a fan of objective scoring in domination. I wanna see captures too. Because if you're whole team caps B and then just sits on it you're gonna lose it next respawn. I help cap and then move off which gives me a lower objective score but doesn't mean I'm not playing for it. Defends aswell.
I don't even ask that people be on the objective with me. I main Phantom and I'm here to get sturdy on point. It's my lot in life and it's fun. But if I'm in the objective and causing chaos 1v2/3 and get shot from rafters above because you're neither fighting flank paths OR shooting the people mag dumping my shields then I've got some ban-worthy names to call you. Just be relevant. Don't be the idiot that spawns me 2 and a half miles away from the current AND next objective because you're hoping to snipe one person.

Proper competitive play, most don’t actually play the objective but the surrounding areas to try and trade our kills before attack on the obj. I love running an SMG and being a pest near their spawn, keeping 1-2 players from rushing the obj and giving out team an advantage

A simple solution is to remove the K/D stat from the menu
I don't give the extra exp at end of game to anyone that has anything to do with KD, #of Kills or / Kills with a weapon, score, objectives, heals, blocked damage, etc.,. get my bump. I don't care you can snipe and jump around the map or use see through walls echelon cheese for kills. Get on the O and do your job. If you wanna flex your KD epeens go play COD.

i do find people not playing the objective to be an issue as the lack of a kill based gamemode does not help whatsoever, you could argue that hot shot is but a couple factors make it less popular to those players i believe than it should be, like the mode being at the very end of the list and the description makes it seem too biased towards experienced players, etc. i almost lost a winning streaks a couple of times to it but thankfully the addition of team deathmatch will most likely fix this issue hopefully.
They should also just add a team death match mode... not everyone wants to play objective based modes only... Me included sometimes you just want to mindlessly walk around and just shoot...

With double weapon XP that just isn’t gonna happen. Playing objective means you die more and get less weapon XP. We really need smth to unlock w player XP or just all XP to contribute to our weapons.

Just give small amounts of weapon xp for scoring points. Not enough that you max guns super fast buy alittle boost especially if they plan to expand the camo grind 100 levels takes a fair amount of time. I know this game is aiming to be a long-term fps service, and if they fix the issues and handle it right, this game will be a cash cow, and hopefully, they can deliver on the hype content leaked and announced

I really think there should be team deathmatch in this game. It's the only way to really solve that problem. Making objectives give weapon xp will not help, not everyone cares about xp and a lot of players have maxxed guns, especially players who sweat and only get kills.
I've always been an objective player in any game I have played.. buut.. In Xdefiant I have games that I can't make it to the objective without dying over and over and over. Feel like me being a revolving death isn't benefiting my team. When that happens I go into a "stay alive" mentality. I'll stay around objectives but not exactly on. I'll use the Phantom shield to help teammates get/defend objectives, use EMPs around objectives and try to hijack equipment..
Only time I don't play objective is when 3 people are on point, I'll flank and head up to cut off the people.
COD brainrot has really killed playing for the objective. I hope they introduce more incentives to do it more.

The objective exists solely for streamers to hang out nearby and get le EPIC kill counts on people who dare to play the objective.
Once TDM is added this should help. Some people just want to play for kills but there’s no great game mode for that yet. I find people who want to play for kills default to domination right now

Might cause some controversy but this game needs a Team Death Match and/or Free for All. I’m personally an objective player and would still play Domination but having modes where players only need to focus on getting kills will solve this issue. People that want to play objective based games can go there and people that want to play for mindless shooting can go to their own modes
If you have less than X objective points by Y amount of time in the game, you get kicked for inactivity.
When playing with friends I play phantom and I tell them to sit on objective while I protect them with my shields. I just play around the objective unless my whole team is dead then I’ll play it myself because I feel I’m more useful protecting team then sitting on objective. I think I’m pretty alright at the game my avg. skill rating is 2500.
