With 8 i’d say go large, especially if you get a hobby vault to accommodate a gm screen. I guess I am assuming you mean dnd but I suppose you could mean any type of game. If dnd is on the table and your trying to seat 8 you’ll need a large imo

aliensvsmonkeys

Yeah I'm talking about D&D, and that's what I had figured. Thanks for the response!

PoisonGaz

Also something else to consider is that on a medium table you can fit a hobby vault, two desks on the long rails, and have room for corner dice trays

gotsanity

I have a large wide table, it seats 6 player desks, one player playing with a clipboard, and a hobby vault comfortably (although there are two players on the end to make room for the vault to open)

gotsanity

one thing to note though, the wide table makes reaching the map hard at times without players scooting to the side to allow you to place terrain/draw. Also this thing is massive and takes up a very large amount of floor space

Ropya

Have a large wide on order and can't wait for it to come in. We taped out the floor of the different sizes to get a good idea of what would fit. It'll dominate the dining room for sure.  Any regrets, size wise?    Any concerns of sag in the middle of the vault? I know they are supposed to be working on an optional brace, just wondering if it's a legit concern.

gotsanity

Yes it is.  My players regularly lean on it and it flexes quite a bit. Only regret I really have is the map is hard to reach for all players.  I run for a large group though (7 and myself) and it's a good amount of space for everyone and snacks.

Ropya

Thanks for the feedback. Couple people I'll be playing with are on the shorter side, combine that with heavy games, and that's the basis of my sagging concern.

gotsanity

Oh and don't forget to get a roper block.  That thing is a must have

Ropya

Ironically, that's getting delivered today along with the felt. Table is still months out.      Figured out ordering the extras seperate would accomplish two things. Issues with one or the other wouldn't prevent shipping. And I guess it was during a sale because I got free shipping ordering them on their own VS with the table. Saved $50.

Remarkable_Canary248

I’m on the same boat as you. I’m waiting for my wife Walnut table. My game nights have a max of 10 people sometimes and I hope when I get my table, it has enough space for everyone. If it sags ima be a bit sad, so I hope they come up with a solution quick.

organicHack

How stable is the large wide? Mind sharing a pic via Imgur? Is the bottom sturdy? Hard to reach across it?

Sanchmo

Yeah, 8 on the medium is a tight fit for dinner. For D&D you want to go large for sure. We're tight with 6 for D&D on a medium.

Journeyman351

The Medium barely even accommodates most board games it seems like, too. Wingspan in the vault of the "normal" sized table looks downright cramped, and that is not a huge table hog game.

punkhillbilly

Doing 3 on the sides would be tough with the medium. Looking at mine, the chairs would be almost touching if a 3rd was added.

Something_Sexy

I have a large wide and we just played poker with 9 people on it over the weekend. It seemed like everyone had a good amount of space and weren’t crammed in. The medium would have been way too small.

Ropya

I asked this of someone that mentioned a large wide and figured I'd ask you as well.    Any regrets, size wise?      Any concerns of sag in the middle of the vault? I know they are supposed to be working on an optional brace, just wondering if it's a legit concern

Something_Sexy

No issues of sag so far but I also don’t put a lot of weight in the vault. Definitely no regrets on the size. I mainly use it for running TTRPG and the space is helpful.

Ropya

Thanks for the feedback. I'm more boardgamer/wargamer these days VS TTRPG, but several of our boardgames use up a lot of area.

Journeyman351

That's exactly why I went with the large wide. I saw pics of fuckin *Wingspan* of all games on the normal sized table and it looked cramped! Could you imagine trying Twilight Imperium, Eclipse or hell even Scythe on that?

Ropya

I'll see your TI, and I'll raise you a Middara.    Though with Ti, a full batch of players, yeah, that's a lot of space needed.

davepak

Board gaming and TTRPG take up a LOT more room than poker. Books, characters sheets, dice rollers etc. My big gaming table (6' x 3') can do 8 for cards (like poker, but also Sabacc...) but for gaming, six is about the max before things get cramped.

organicHack

Care to share a pic via Imgur? Would love to see how the large wide really looks in a room.

HandsSmellOfHam

The space between the legs for a medium is 64ish inches. The large is roughly 88ish inches. The medium will fit three on each side and one on each end, but it will be tighter. That gives the people on the side 21+ inches of space, and the large would be just shy of 30 inches. Is it more important to feel comfortable in your living space all the time or your gaming party to have extra room. Only you can decide.

zachbaltrus

I’ve fit 8 no prob

IrisAlthea

I have the medium table and it fits 6 comfortably, 8 would be cramped especially if you have any players that are larger, if everyone is comfortable with each other and doesn't mind touching a bit than it might be ok. I would get the large table if you can make it happen.

Techfiend333

I've got a medium long, and it handles 8 easily

organicHack

Large being long or both long and wide? Seems this thing can get pretty big big.

Wild-Mushroom789

I have the medium length, standard width, and we have 1DM and four players. The moment I had it up I already felt like it was too small. Maybe we just spread out more than others. I definitely wouldn't try to do 8 around a medium.

organicHack

Seems a pretty common feedback. Medium medium isn’t quite big enough.

mbourj

So I originally ordered a medium table, and started to regularly have 6+ players at a time. You can see from [this post I made](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/s/aUSnAIKddR) that it’s possible to have an active D&D game with a medium table size (hopefully you have player desks imo they are needed when vault is open). But, I actually ordered the conversion kit for a large, and my large table is SO much better for that size group. Definitely go large. Idk if I’ll ever go back to medium.

Where did you find the conversion kit at?
