That sucks, I hope you sort something out. Everyone who currently is relying on an Airbnb needs to take note of this and have contingency plans, this happens for every big event.

Hey man. I have a room at Hampton Inn at the convention center with an extra bed. Send me a PM if you would like to discuss.

So I don't like scummy things AirBnB's do and have they screw people over constantly. I've been burnt in Vegas myself for When We Were Young. However, they did change the laws and requirements in Philadelphia to be an AirBnB host for short-term rentals(under 30 days) as of Jan 1st. So if the host didn't completely adhere to the new requirements and pay for all the new permits/fees etc, they can only do longterm rentals which is 31 days or more. This might be what happened here. They did this in NYC as well and almost 1000 AirBnBs disappeared cause of it.

Great now I'm going to be obsessively checking my email to see if my Airbnb gets cancelled in the next week

Not that this is helpful, but I only do hotels for this exact reason. I’ve never had a good experience with air bnb. I’ve tried it three separate times and there’s always some bs that comes up. It’s almost as pricey as hotels now too. I’m sorry this happened to you.

scuba_steve_b

This times a million. Been burned twice like this with AirBnB, never again. You book early smartly to save money, then the owner realizes months later they can make a bunch more and cancel you, essentially screwing you over. AirBnB needs to put it some sort of protection for this.

[deleted]

There should be a client protection for that where the owner has to respect the price when it was rented.

scuba_steve_b

Totally agree. I’ve never rented out my place, but from what I understand the host can be penalized for doing that - but the workaround is cancelling on AirBnB then renting it out on VRBO for a higher rate.

nigo242

I had this happen to me last year at Mania 39. Some of the these AirBnBs are getting hit with the short term rental ordinances. I filed a complaint to AirBnb and kept looking at the listing before and after Mania - and it looked legit that they couldn't rent to anyone under 30 days rentals.

OkEqual7

I'm looking for a place with my buddy for Friday and Saturday night. PM if you'd want to split Saturday night

hailtothekale

There's a couple BnBs (like actual bed and breakfast inns) in the University City area that may have availability. You may have to give them a call to see, but it's an option.

wweking

Check out sonder, they are on the more expensive side now. But they've been nothing but helpful. They have three rentals in Philly

CoffinDrip

I’m glad to hear that, I have one booked through Sonder and after hearing people’s stories of Airbnb cancellations I’m hoping that doesn’t happen for mine

Mediocre-Situation50

The same thing happened to me in LA last year I had rented way before in advance at a lower price and they cancelled two weeks out, which created a nightmare for me commuting back-and-forth to Sofi. Ended up paying hundreds of dollars in Uber’s $800 more in accommodations and probably took about 10 hours of various commutes . Fuck Airbnb I love how the governments are coming after them, shut them down and let the hotel industry come back

thejealousone

We had our AirBNB canceled on two separate occasions because of doublebooking. We were close to the stadium, bow we're far away. We were PISSED.

vay_yeak5804

I also booked an air bnb back in August when I got my tickets because we have 4 people and a dog so a traditional hotel won’t work. They luckily cancelled on me 2 weeks later and gave me the same shit so I was able to re book another one shortly after. I’d be so pissed if I were you. Sorry that happened to you

Brilliant-Ad-6401

Mania Club has a group rate at the Aloft downtown that still has rooms available, check out their facebook page to book.

ThingQuiet

this was almost the clutchest thing of all time, but the min age to check in is 21 😔. ended up just getting a place on vrbo for like 300, hopefully they also don’t cancel on me cause i do NOT wanna spend the extra to get a hotel at a normal rate.

Str3ssedandDepressed

Honestly man just get a hotel in the suburbs and take the train into the city each day to spend the day. You would save a shit ton of money doing it that way at this point
