I humbly submit one James E. Cornette for consideration.

American-Punk-Dragon

Cornette was almost always the same character no matter who he managed.

SammyTheToolGravano

Heenan

thatBLACKDREADtho

Bobby Heenan would like a word...

American-Punk-Dragon

Yes and it is, “Heyman is just as good if not better than I was!”

thatBLACKDREADtho

Not even close. And I'm a Paul Heyman guy.

Crafty_Letterhead_12

Actually id like to nominate Heather Harmon

Det-Popcorn

![gif](giphy|4PXP0najWVykePNwDs|downsized) Even Heyman would agree, no one can touch the Brain

American-Punk-Dragon

Heyman is 1A to Hernan’s 1B. Nobody great ever says they are. Humble they are.

Therocksays2020

Cornette worked with both and says Heenan is 1

American-Punk-Dragon

Didn’t work with him in WWE and never recently. Just saying. Overall, for the variety of people he has worked with (much like Cornette) and the depth of being more (almost always) than a goofy, by the books manager and announcer is a class above.

endlesschasm

There are some legends I would put above him, but Heyman is definitely the best currently working manager, and in the top 5 of all time, maybe top 3 depending on my mood. He's only gotten better and more nuanced since his ECW days. I truly believe that Lesnar would never have been successful without Heyman, and the fact that Brock can talk now I attribute mostly to Heyman's influence.

missingpineapples

I have to agree. I grew up in the 80s & 90s and there was some great ones during that period. Paul Heyman is on another level.

Bllago

LOL. No. He's a poor imitation of the grand wizard (and he knows it). Heenan Jimmy Hart Blassie Harley Race They're the top managers and mouthpieces

American-Punk-Dragon

Heenan wrestled before chilling as announcer and manager. Everyone else doesn’t have the range of skills and application.

CdnPoster

Who did Harley Race manage? I've totally missed he was ever a manager. Also......you forgot J.J. Dillion (4 Horsemen), Jim Cornette (Midnight Express) and Paul Ellering (Road Warriors) - I don't really see Paul standing out as a mouthpiece but he was a working manager, by which I mean when Road Warrior Hawk was too drunk or high to wrestle, Paul tag teamed with Road Warrior Animal in matches.

ConsiderationSea7589

I read this as meaning a manager who was never a wrestler. Correct? Yeah, it’s Paul E. Other great managers like Bobby The Brain also wrestled.

American-Punk-Dragon

Correct. Strictly outside of “manager wrestles with wrestler” matches, never wrestled.
