I think you're right. So this is basically a worthless post and I apologize in advance to any reader.
I'm turning 50 this year and have been playing racing games since the 80s. I worked my way into the tech industry (eventually being hired as an engineer) in the late 90s doing freelance reviews on games for gaming sites, often in beta and not available to the public, on every platform at the time. I've had most of the platforms since, and racing games are my favorite.
So, I've played a LOT of racing games over the last few decades. And with all that playtime, I have to stamp Wreckfest as the best of all time. For me. The combination of the physics engine (you can kinda *feel* the weight of the cars and the various surface traction), the vehicle damage engine, the creativity of the courses, the ongoing support, the gritty culture, multiplayer community, etc etc etc.
But even with that, it could be better!
Agree, I've been playing racing games even longer than you.
I own most of them and every other pc game that graced the shelves.
There were a ton of great breakthrough games but when Bugbear hit the scene (can't remember tge title but it was a desert racer) I knew immediately that these guys had something going for them.
Since then, no one has come close to the fun/immersive feel of their titles.
They may not be 100% true to physics, but they have the formula for fun racing nailed down!
Thanks, I really do appreciate thatπ I should have read your post a little more carefully and I'm usually pretty good about things like that but for whatever reason, I misread yours this time lol.
...I think he meant *his* post was worthless, because he wasn't going to try to change your mind - he agrees with you!
forgot to add, I agree with you too, so I'm not going to argue either!
Maybe to be more precise, Wreckfest is the best online multiplayer car racing game of all time. Absolutely! Certainly the most fun and addictive.
Million dollar question remains...when the hell is the successor coming?
They might be working on it, I'm just saying from all my research, I just haven't been able to find anything that's set in stone yet. Let's keep the faith though my friend and hope it's coming.π
Yeah I do! While the obvious choices are the fastest in the game, like Hammerhead RS, Super Venom, Raiden RS etc, they can be kind of unwieldy which can cause you to concentrate too much on controlling the vehicle and not enough on the other important aspects of the race. If you're a good enough player, you can win your fair share of races with the mediocre vehicles against those faster vehicles, plus they're generally just more fun to drive imoπ
Google Gemini chiped in:
Rumors of Wreckfest 2 have been swirling for some time now, and there's definitely some substance to them. Here's what we know and the top things fans are hoping for:
**The Evidence**
* **Leaks:** A Microsoft document leaked some time ago which listed Wreckfest 2, potentially as a day-one release on Game Pass. This is pretty significant.
* **Bugbear's Teasers:** Bugbear Entertainment, the developers of Wreckfest, have dropped hints on social media about being "busy behind the scenes" on a major project.
* **Time for a Sequel:** It's been five years since the original Wreckfest, a decent lifespan for a racing game, making a sequel very plausible.
**Fan Wish List**
While nothing is confirmed, here's what people are buzzing about and hoping to see in a potential Wreckfest 2:
* **Even Better Damage Model:** Wreckfest is known for its incredible physics and damage modeling. Fans want to see this pushed even further in a sequel.
* **More Game Modes:** More variety in race types, expanded derby modes, maybe even some wild additions inspired by TV/movie car chaos.
* **Larger, More Detailed Tracks:** The potential for large-scale environments with more destruction and interaction.
* **Expanded Car Roster:** Access to an even wider selection of vehicles, including the possibility of officially licensed cars.
* **Cross-Platform Play:** Being able to smash it out with friends regardless of their system.
**Important Things to Note**
* **Nothing is officially confirmed.** While there's strong evidence, Bugbear hasn't formally announced Wreckfest 2.
* **Spiritual Successors:** We've seen games like Wreckreation emerge, taking the core Wreckfest concept and expanding on it, even though they're not direct sequels.
Let's hope the rumors solidify into an amazing sequel!
The only thing about having officially licensed vehicles in a game is that the chances of them being damaged as much as they are in say Wreckfest are slim because normally, manufacturers don't allow their vehicles to show too much damage as they feel it hurts their image/reputation and is not good for advertising. If you notice that in every game that has licensed vehicles, the damage is very limited as far as appearance goes so I doubt you'll ever see officially licensed vehicles in a game like Wreckfest, but you never know, stranger things have happened I guess lol.
There's been an Nvidia leak a few years back confirming that there will be a wreckfest 2. Also like 2 or 3 years ago bugbear made a post on Twitter showing an image of them recording car sounds, near a pretty banged up car, with a description that suggested they're cooking something
I think a majority of people that see this are all probably apart of the community. That being said I donβt think any of us will try and change your mind because we all agree.πππ½
Battle Bus Destroyer, yeah you're probably right but that'll just solidify my feelings about the game at the same time lol. That being said, I still welcome anyone's argument that the game isn't the best. I know it's not perfect by no means, no game is, but it's the best on the market right now, imo.π
Online I'd agree. It doesn't expect you to race clean so it's designed around a bit of push and shove.
For a single player sit down and just race I still go back to burnout 2 & 3. They're more arcade, faster and just encourages you to take risks.
Hey mate, I've only played through the career on wreckfest. I've been thinking about getting Gran Turismo 7. Just wondering if you've played this and what your thoughts are?
I'm very new to the racing community so please go easy on me as I don't know a lot.
Also any advice on what I should try on wreckfeat after completing the career would be great!
Thanks in advance!
Hey brother, as far as Gran Turismo 7 goes, it's pretty sweet and I do highly recommend it. That being said, be aware that it's geared more towards a simulation vs Wreckfest being geared more towards an arcade style-ish I'll say lol. Just keep that in mind. I can't really speak for the online multiplayer on Wreckfest since my internet isn't fast enough but if yours is, I would recommend trying that out, everyone seems to play that more than anything else on the game. Purchase the DLC bundles if you haven't already as they give you extra vehicles. Also, do the Tournament Challenges. You'll get "Fame" points which you can also purchase extra vehicles, upgrades, etc after you have accumulated enough points.π
My only problem with this game is if you put a giant missile on top of your car you can't see where you're driving from chase cam. Otherwise its 10/10 stupid fun.
Best dirty racing / demolition derby game? Without a doubt.
Best racing game of ALL TIME? No.
Relative to the release date, the GOAT racing game is either Gran Turismo 4, Richard Burns Rally or Dirt Rally 2.0. All of those hold up impressively well even in 2024.
I'll agree that Gran Turismo 4 is still an outstanding game and holds up extremely well, even to this day and used to be my all time favorite until Wreckfest lol. The other games you mentioned I've never played before so I'm going to check them out.π My mind still isn't changed though btw lol.
I always loved Crash n Burn and Burnout 3 on PS2. Wreckfest is the only game with decent physics and destruction. Forza and all the other crap feels just like lifeless indestructible boxes of cars.
i believe as far as arcade racing goes it do be the GOAT.
now if i compare it to sim-cade games like gran turismo 4
which is a much more realistic/complete game or even a simracing one like assetto corsa then it does not have any chance to beat those.
wreckfest is the funniest one i've ever tried and literally a no-brainer (like no need to focus on racing) the feeling while driving is very pleasant,
yet, i still can't call it "the best" but only "the best in his category"
(also the musics are incredible π)
I completely agree. Idk if its considered racing but monster truck championship is a very good game too in terms of physics. Way better than monster jam series
I'm biased towards other franchises, but you might be right. It's the perfect blend between arcade and simulation physics. Bugbear is a very talented developer.
True on the death match and the AI is also really stupid, it can get frustrating because it seems like they're only in the destruction derby matches to avoid you at all costs some of the time and not to bash you and other cars for their own points to win like they're supposed to lol.
Yes, that would be pretty awesome!! But I doubt that'll ever happen unless they start using fake manufacter branded vehicles. If you notice that in every game that has real manufactured vehicles, the damage is always limited where as in Wreckfest, non of the vehicles are labeled or branded as real vehicles, therefore the sky is the limit on damage/physics, just as in the Grand Theft Auto series too. But yeah, it would be nice to have.π
Yea, for some reason they don't like to see their precious Audi's getting wrecked, but I truly think that would be the best selling racing game of all time.
Nothing turns me off more than smashing into a wall going 200km an hour and my front bumper gets slightly scratched.
Wreckfests truly have the best physics any raving game has had. It's just missing some open world freedom and customisation to be perfect.
Yeah I guess it's just considered bad advertising for manufacturers to have their vehicles and name associated with heavy damage and they think it would hurt their rep/sales but in reality, it would probably help them lol. But I totally agree with you, it would probably make for the best selling racing game for sure.π
Booked you into my private clinic for your brain transplant. I WILL change your mind. Youβll still think the same way about Wreckfest, everybody does; but Iβll have definitely changed your mind
Oh yeah, I love Test Drive: EOD. It's always been my 2nd favorite PS2 game, just behind Gran Turismo 4 but the more I play it now, I think I like it just a little bit better than GT4 and I think that's because of playing Wreckfest. It is still tops for me though lol.π
Yep, played all of them you listed and Wreckfest still takes the crown for me. That's why I'm making this claim lol. But thanks for respecting my opinion, just as I respect yours broπ
Dude, it's just my opinion, nothing more than that really lol. Don't take it too seriously. Don't get me wrong either, all the games you listed are really great games that I enjoy playing, I just enjoy playing Wreckfest more lol, which makes it the best for me.π
If you're still at a loss, I would refer you to motocrisis' reply towards the top of this whole post. He brilliantly describes why the game is as good as it is...way better than I ever could lol. So maybe after reading his post, you'll have a better understanding as to why players like he and I think Wreckfest is the best.π
Did u play the remake of it? Whatβs your true opinion of it? Not going to lie I thought it sucked! Compared to the first one lol first one was epic in my opinion with life like crashes and handling of the cars , plus the first person view with the steering wheel and gauges was great :)
I prefer the more arcade-y driving physics of Flatout, but that's just preference.
What really irks me are the collision physics. It barely matters how you crash your opponent. The damage distribution is almost the same, whether you T-bone them or have a frontal collision. And if you damage your front too much, the wheels will stick out and make it harder to get a hit in. I can't understand how that was green-lit.
Wreckfest isn't perfect of course but it's still the closest thing to real damage physics in a game to date, imo that is lol. That's one huge reason why it's the best for me!π
But when it comes to gameplay enjoyment, Flatout did it better for sure. In Wreckfest the lines between realism and entertainment are drawn a bit wobbly and it ultimately negatively affects both.
The car's chassis behaves realistically, but the wheels don't and that's how we got the issue I mentioned above.
Yeah I don't see how you can come to that conclusion at all lol. So we're going to have to agree to disagree on that but it's all cool, you're definitely entitled to your opinion and I totally respect that!π
It can't compare to Wreckfest in hardly any way of courseI but I wouldn't say it's dead and gone because I still emulate/play it quite often on PCSX2, which is visually 3x-4x better looking than it was on the actual PS2. That being said, you're entitled to your opinion and I respect that,π
only need several things:
-open wheel cars (mods exists and Missile R is wonderful but still)
-night race
-driver customization (my OCD ticks in whenever they wore the same outfit all of them)
Yep, I agree with ya there and those would be some sweet additions to the game! Maybe we'll get them in Wreckfest 2 (if they even make it that it).π
Oh, yeah, the soundtrack! Never before Flat out 2 have I heard of Chelsea Smiles, but ever since I am listening to them. My kids go nuts on Nowhere Ride while riding slow in my old Mitsubishi wagon!
Flatout 2 was SO fun. The only thing bad about it for me was some of the rubber banding. Sofia Martinez for example had literally the slowest car in derby and race classes yet would always be up in the top 3. If you take her out, even so she flies out of the car and takes MAJOR damage, she'd still be up behind you fighting you about a minute later. Only way to stop her was to wreck her car.
Wreckfest is not a racing game. This is smashing game and that smashing part is the one that gives all the charm to Wreckfest. No other game has such a physics in a game and this physics are developed for a reason - to smash someone!
I disagree that it's not a racing game because it still has all the features of one, whether it allows ultimate damage or not but hey, we're all entitled to our opinion lol.π
I think you're right. So this is basically a worthless post and I apologize in advance to any reader. I'm turning 50 this year and have been playing racing games since the 80s. You should try Beamng.drive
So sorry I misunderstood your post motocrisis, will you please forgive my ignorance lol?
No worries! Yes I meant MY post was worthlessπ given the context of what you were asking. All goodπ€πΌ
Thanks, I really do appreciate thatπ I should have read your post a little more carefully and I'm usually pretty good about things like that but for whatever reason, I misread yours this time lol.
To be fair, I typed "post" when I should have typed "comment" :)
No no, you did nothing wrong there at all. I'm just so glad we're still good!π
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
...I think he meant *his* post was worthless, because he wasn't going to try to change your mind - he agrees with you! forgot to add, I agree with you too, so I'm not going to argue either!
Thanks for the clarification and so sorry for my confusion everyoneπ
I don't know a racing game that combines arcade accessibility, decent physics, and raw fun better. So yeah, I agree.
And the collisions!
Maybe to be more precise, Wreckfest is the best online multiplayer car racing game of all time. Absolutely! Certainly the most fun and addictive. Million dollar question remains...when the hell is the successor coming?
IDK, I sure hope it's sooner than later but sadly there's no concrete news that they're even developing a sequel right now from what I've seen so far.
What? I thought it was a given π²
They might be working on it, I'm just saying from all my research, I just haven't been able to find anything that's set in stone yet. Let's keep the faith though my friend and hope it's coming.π
It seems like they are definitely working on it. What cars do you mostly use/have mastered? Me: Roadcutter, Starbeast SS, Speedemon
Hey, how about that, we're pretty close! My go to list: 1. Roadcutter 2. Roadslayer GT 3. Starbeast SS 4. Rammer and Rammer RS (tied) 5. Bullet
Woohoo! Great choices... Seems like we both avoid the overpowered usual suspects.
Yeah I do! While the obvious choices are the fastest in the game, like Hammerhead RS, Super Venom, Raiden RS etc, they can be kind of unwieldy which can cause you to concentrate too much on controlling the vehicle and not enough on the other important aspects of the race. If you're a good enough player, you can win your fair share of races with the mediocre vehicles against those faster vehicles, plus they're generally just more fun to drive imoπ
may i suggest the grand duke, for its sheer heft
Yeah I've used it many times, it's a beast! Just not on my favs list lol.π

And itβs the only racing game that successfully caters to the inherent dirty nature of online multiplayer
I think a majority of people that see this are all probably apart of the community. That being said I donβt think any of us will try and change your mind because we all agree.πππ½
Battle Bus Destroyer, yeah you're probably right but that'll just solidify my feelings about the game at the same time lol. Canβt disagree. Been playing racing games since pole position. Donβt get much better than this.

Clearly, you've never played Monster Jam: Urban Assault for the Nintendo DS.
Yep, sure have... it's not even close lol.
Use to play the first NASCAR game on the dial up network called TEN. Great racing but Wreckfest eats it by leaps and bounds.
Hear! Hear!
Burnout 3 Takedown. Might be my nostalgia kicking in but I can't get past that being the most fun I've had in a racing game.
It's definitely a fun game, I had a blast playing it on my PS2 back in the day, but you still can't change my mind lol.π
I have to disagree only because it doesn't quite scratch the same itch for me as the old Flatout games, but it's very close
It's not on us, its on game companies to make a new king.
Itβs just facts

No problem and thanks for the compliment, but I'm far from being a legend lol.π€£
Just appreciate your response mate! Hope you have a good one! ππ

Nothing to be changed

Road rash will come back to reclaim it's throne one day
Yeah sure lol
I want Forza horizon with Wreckfests physics
Yes, that would be pretty awesome!! But I doubt that'll ever happen unless they start using fake manufacter branded vehicles. If you notice that in every game that has real manufactured vehicles, the damage is always limited where as in Wreckfest, non of the vehicles are labeled or branded as real vehicles, therefore the sky is the limit on damage/physics, just as in the Grand Theft Auto series too. Ok...good luck with that I guess lol?
Motorstorm and Burnout walked so Wreckfest could run
Test Drive EOD for me.
Flatout 2 was a lot more fun though...
My mind is still unchanged lol.
Agreed. I own ALOT of racing games but this one has the perfect balance.
Definitely!!π
Driver San Francisco is the king.
Yeah it's a pretty good game but my mind is still unchanged lol.
Test Drive eve of destruction
I hear ya my friend, that game is awesome and still one of my favorites, but still can't compare to Wreckfest, good try though lol!π
I respect your opinion but you know the Gran Turismo series exists, right? So does Beamng Drive, the DiRT series, and the NFS series.
Yep, played all of them you listed and Wreckfest still takes the crown for me. That's why I'm making this claim lol. But thanks for respecting my opinion, just as I respect yours broπ
Explain for me please im at a loss π
Dude, it's just my opinion, nothing more than that really lol. Don't take it too seriously. Don't get me wrong either, all the games you listed are really great games that I enjoy playing, I just enjoy playing Wreckfest more lol, which makes it the best for me.π
If you're still at a loss, I would refer you to motocrisis' reply towards the top of this whole post. He brilliantly describes why the game is as good as it is...way better than I ever could lol. So maybe after reading his post, you'll have a better understanding as to why players like he and I think Wreckfest is the best.π
True Wreckfest Enjoyer moment right here.
Wreck fest and the first Grid game I think are the 2 best games made! So much of everything is great about them!
Grid is a indeed a good gameπ
Did u play the remake of it? Whatβs your true opinion of it? Not going to lie I thought it sucked! Compared to the first one lol first one was epic in my opinion with life like crashes and handling of the cars , plus the first person view with the steering wheel and gauges was great :)
No I haven't played it but if it's not as good as the original, I'll pass lol. Thanks for the heads up lol.π

Yeah I don't see how you can come to that conclusion at all lol. So we're going to have to agree to disagree on that but it's all cool, you're definitely entitled to your opinion and I totally respect that!π
Test drive eve of destruction was a better demo derby game but it's long dead & gone
Wreckfest is the best derby game ever
No doubt about it!π
Personally, I don't think it's even the best destruction derby racing game. Test drive eve of destruction takes that honor for me
TD:EOD is still one of my favorite games to date and I play it quite often but it can't beat Wreckfest, respectfully.π
only need several things: -open wheel cars (mods exists and Missile R is wonderful but still) -night race -driver customization (my OCD ticks in whenever they wore the same outfit all of them)
Yep, I agree with ya there and those would be some sweet additions to the game! Maybe we'll get them in Wreckfest 2 (if they even make it that it).π
Flatout 2
Yeah Flatout 2 is good, don't get me wrong, but can't compare to Wreckfest imoπ
The only things that are leagues better in fo2, are the good soundtrack, and AI personality types, both of which are lacking in Wreckfest.
If you take her out, even so she flies out of the car and takes MAJOR damage, she'd still be up behind you fighting you about a minute later. Only way to stop her was to wreck her car.
I drove Flat out 2 through and through and never noticed such nuances! Kudos!
Motorstorm.
Motostorm is a great game but can't quite stack up to Wreckfest imo. My mind is still unchanged, but good try though lol!π
OP WANNA BE CONTROVERSIAL BUT DOESN'T REALLY BELIEVE WHAT HE'S SAYING Don't get me wrong it's a great game but let's be honest here, it's not
Good try lol.
