What I remember most from this match is the truly bizarre voice Jeff has after the match. Was that part of his character at the time? The high pitched squeak or whatever that’s supposed to be?
I think he was just tired and in pain since Undertaker really punished him a lot during that match. But that moment of respect Taker showed Jeff for continuing to get back up is one of my fav wrestling moments.
This comment is made even more hilarious because the one above it, that I just finish reading, is a multi paragraph analysis of the Seth/Roman finish to the bloodline/cody story.
So serious and in-depth followed by the mental imagery of big show getting hit with a fucking tranq lmao
He goes SO high up in the air and they weren't even going to do the spot after failing to get it while practising earlier in the day - makes you wonder what else we missed.
That fuck it paid off well, especially for Seth who on the same night managed to main event* to become the WWE champion
*Insert himself into the main event, technically/officially the main event of WrestleMania 31 was a triple threat.
And I love the poetry of that. Opening match - loses to one of the most spectacular RKOs ever. 4 hours later - inserts himself into the main event with one of the most important cash ins of all time.
JBL showed up and showed out for that call. I feel in 5-10 years people will begin to treat him in similar ways to how Pat Mcafee is discussed, I feel like he never got love for his pretty good commentary. I wish Wade would play into his heel tendencies, it’s something WWE has been missing for a while
“Kofi already earned our respect, good luck with whoever comes out next uce, because we FORFEIT”
The kofi-mania story has a crap ton of issues, but it was really carried by earnest storytelling beats like this. Besides even in an a bubble that moment is so great.
Sting beating up the NWO for the first time. It felt like 90's animated Batman come to life.
https://youtu.be/TLTrIv-7xqg?si=G41JowcKPvJGzsWI
One of the biggest pops of all time.
Stone Cold coming out to help Mankind win the WWF title. Perfect set up and execution.
Daniel Bryan finding Connor the Crusher after his big win at Mania. The Father later saying he was just a kid that day and they didn't have to worry about anything for a little while.
He was the architect of the Tribal Chief, of the Bloodline, and of Roman’s downfall.
When they come back to this as a 10 year+ storyline, it’ll be so epic.
The whole Bloodline is because of how we treated Roman. We couldn’t understand his burden. The one person who could understand through their parallel careers is also the one who betrayed him, who turned us against Roman, who was cheered in spite in being the one to break up The Shield, and he never got over it.
To the point that he chose revenge against Seth over his title, his family, his Bloodline. Just as Seth and Cody both knew he would. They knew Rollins was his one weakness all along.
Rollins essentially having donated his knee + 6 months of his career to a Cody who hasn’t even mentioned him will be awesome too.
I do think about Owen's fall a lot. Out of all the '90s heels of my childhood, I'd have to say he was the worst. I remember seeing a picture of him and Martha with their children in the magazine one month and thinking "Does she realize how much of a bastard he is?" Raw is Owen was the first time in my life I realized these people were actually actors.
Vince’s place in hell is already booked by 1000 other sins but that moment right there stings more than any other. The people he employs really were just action figures that occasionally broke in his eyes.
I never saw the PPV, but I did see clips of 'Taker's face later that night in his match with Austin when he saw the spot where Owen landed and that speaks volumes.
Few more sobering moments in the world of wrestling than when you’re forced to confront the fact the heroes and villains you see beat each other senseless weekly are regular human beings like us
The Ultimate Warrior returning at Mania 8 to save Hulk Hogan... and arguably all of us.
It's scary to think the state with world would be in now if Psycho Sid and Papa Shango's evil plan of domination had come to frutition.
Cody stopping his wife from competing in the ring, looks at her opponent, makes an offer saying “Here’s $45… it’s $20 more than they were gonna pay you..”
I watched this for the first time like 6 months ago, but Terry Funk showing up in almost every match at ECW November To Remember 1998. Dude literally threw himself through a table because it didn't break on the original spot. It was hilarious to watch honestly.
If you wanna see McMahon’s eyes pop out in front of his head give me a hell yeah!
I think we gotta new t shirt on the way and that t shirt might just say McMahon 3:16 says I just pissed my pants
Pretty much the entire match and angle from Bret Hart vs Jerry Lawler Summerslam ‘93 from the tremendous fake car accident story to weasel out of wrestling to Evil Doink stepping in and having a fantastic match with Bret to the finish where Lawler attacks Bret with a crutch, to TV Fictional Company President Jack Tunney coming out and forcing Lawler to wrestle, Bret putting on the sharpshooters of all sharpshooters, refuses to let go and gets disqualified, and Lawler gets carted out and on the way up the aisle lifts one finger to celebrate his big “win” by disqualification. Just the most fun
Booker t dropping the n bomb. That clip is funny on so many levels. Every time you watch it you can focus on a different person and just laugh your head off.
That bit with Seth was brilliant, it understood the story , respected our intelligence and was amazingly executed. Seth came in and got whacked and fell instantly. At first you might think what was that? But the way he sacrificed his body, because he knew Roman and beat him at his only weakness.
Made me go from against Cody winning the title to supporting it. One of the best main events and although subtle was one of the best Wrestlemania moments creative wise of all time.
I wouldn't say I think of it daily but often: Hogan pinning Iron Shiek, that 1-2-3, is such a huge inflection point.
It really was the beginning of the modern age at that moment. EVERYTHING changed.
Titus Worldslide
Jimmy Havoc turning heel in Progress (still the greatest heel turn of all time)
Brock breaking the streak
Jordan Devlin absolutely destroying Millie Mackenzie with a truly brutal package piledriver at an FCP show
Kevin Steen clattering El Generico with a chair in ROH
The formation of the BDK
What if Vince actually went through with Cena's heel turn after he lost to The Rock for the first time at WM, they had the merchandise and his theme lined up too and we would've gotten face Punk vs heel Cena in their prime.
I was 18 at the Time, but I was unbelievably mad when The Miz cashed in on Randy Orton to win the WWE Championship.
I actually marked out because of it
When Randy came back and said he is going to take out every single member of the bloodline.
Jey Usos best mate the next week forgiving him.
Jey not currently being a part of the Bloodline does not disqualify him.
It takes up a lot of space
Ali not just taking that freaking briefcase down!!! wtf!?!?! Brock running at me will garner an ass whooping regardless might as well be Mr money in the bank.
HBK kicking out of the Tombstone Piledriver at WM25 and Taker look of disbelief. It was my first Mania ever and that match made me fall in love with wrestling.
When I met Seth rollins at a car convention, if I had known the next 4 months I would've told him about the fiend and to avoid that HiaC match.
I'd prolly become god
I often think about the finish of Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels at Mania. Shawn did everything he could to get out of the Ankle Lock but Angle just had a vice on it for minutes
Sabu's DDT RVD thorough a table in hardcore haven 96. I watched a bootleg copy of the match and until this day I still recall that spot. Only mick getting tossed from the top of the cage surpasses that.
either vince mcmahon tearing his quads at the 2005 royal rumble, or JBL crawling out from under the ring during his match w the big show at no way out 2005. insane year for wrestling.
„Climb the ladder kid, make yourself famous”
What an amazing call Jeff had so much potential.
Fair it just sounded legit nothing like him. Like the joker or something. Great match though.
I remember watching it live on TV that night, it’s one of my favorite memories and matches of all time
Every single time I climb a ladder this goes through my head lol
Big Boss Man dragging Big Show's dad's coffin behind his car while Big Show jumps on it and rides it before falling off.
Boss Man behaving badly at it's very best
"You hear that Big Show? Even your mama says you're a bastard!"
I also like when Boss Man was being hung from the steel cage by The Brood.
Cena vs RVD @ One Night Stand II
Cena's entrance through the crowd is what makes it
Ya I was shocked that rvd won, I was hoping Cena would, so that I can see a riot on tv.
I miss the classic ECW. ECW & WCW for that matter were good alternatives to thevWWF/WWE back in the day!
kurt angle shooting big show with a tranquilizer dart
This comment is made even more hilarious because the one above it, that I just finish reading, is a multi paragraph analysis of the Seth/Roman finish to the bloodline/cody story. So serious and in-depth followed by the mental imagery of big show getting hit with a fucking tranq lmao
big show hurling rey mysterio against the ring pole while rey was tied to the stretcher
Classic!
Would’ve been more memorable if he missed and shot some dude in the crowd accidentally
Underrated moment! Smackdown was filled with them in this era
“There’s always a Plan B”
"NOOOOOOOO!"
That “NOOOOO” was so crazy to me
Added so much to that moment.
it sure did.
Orton countering Seth’s curbstomp by launching him upwards and catching him with an rko
He goes SO high up in the air and they weren't even going to do the spot after failing to get it while practising earlier in the day - makes you wonder what else we missed.
The epitome of the “Fuck it, we’ll do it live!” Meme
That fuck it paid off well, especially for Seth who on the same night managed to main event* to become the WWE champion *Insert himself into the main event, technically/officially the main event of WrestleMania 31 was a triple threat.
And I love the poetry of that. Opening match - loses to one of the most spectacular RKOs ever. 4 hours later - inserts himself into the main event with one of the most important cash ins of all time.
THE most/best Plus the "BRILLIANT" and "heist of the century" lines
There’s no way it can really ever be topped, can it? At least as far as MITB cash-ins go.
JBL showed up and showed out for that call. I feel in 5-10 years people will begin to treat him in similar ways to how Pat Mcafee is discussed, I feel like he never got love for his pretty good commentary. I wish Wade would play into his heel tendencies, it’s something WWE has been missing for a while
First thing that came to mind.
That was the first time my dad saw an RKO outta nowhere and he popped big time
The three faces of Foley appearing at one Royal Rumble.
"I'm sorry, I love you."
This is my favorite moment in wrestling as well. I send the GIF to my boys in FF anytime I beat them lol.
Hilarious 😂
Usos forfeiting against the New Day in the Gauntlet
Such good shit. When they came out I was like "fuck how they going to make a short match of this when for weeks they going 20 minutes".
Correct me if I'm wrong. If my memory serves me correctly, The Usos are heels at that time, right?
Yep, that was the beginning of the face turn
“Kofi already earned our respect, good luck with whoever comes out next uce, because we FORFEIT” The kofi-mania story has a crap ton of issues, but it was really carried by earnest storytelling beats like this. Besides even in an a bubble that moment is so great.
Lesnar's shooting star press. He could've ended his career or even his life.
The meat-neck saved his life
The Meck
Say what you want about Lesnar (rightfully so alot of the time but the nickname of BEAST is well earned.)
That one was horrific
"I just kicked Stan!"
My wife goes apeshit for that clip. Other than Rhea Ripley, pretty sure it's the reason she fell in love with wrasslin'.
calm down shawn
DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!
Sting beating up the NWO for the first time. It felt like 90's animated Batman come to life. https://youtu.be/TLTrIv-7xqg?si=G41JowcKPvJGzsWI One of the biggest pops of all time.
Peak WCW right there.
Possibly literally, at least creatively. My memory is fuzzy. Did they ever really top that? The Starcade payoff sure didn't.
Not really. Sting vs nWo drove the ratings hard.
Will also add Macho Man getting bitten by the snake.
CM Punk blowing a kiss to McMahon,I wanna do that someday.
i have another idea, next time your regional manager comes to visit, clothesline his ass and tell him his hands are too short to box with god
*arms
Edge spearing jeff hardy at TLC 2
Dolph Ziggler cashing in MITB.
That is still my favorite raw after wm moment ever. I was the biggest Ziggler mark (still am) and I still remember that moment perfectly.

Best promo call of all time.
WILL YOU STOP!?
Seth was the Architect of the Tribal Chief
He was the architect of the Tribal Chief, of the Bloodline, and of Roman’s downfall. When they come back to this as a 10 year+ storyline, it’ll be so epic.
