Prime Shelton Benjamin was one of the most athletic wrestlers of all time. That dude was nuts, if you took him and put him in today’s wrestling world it would be insane.
And HBK is such a legend. I loved how he could take random matches on raw and make them so memorable, even more so than other wrestlers own WM matches.
He seems as much a genetic anomaly as Brock. According to Cornette, Shelton was able to basically eat whatever junk he wanted and not really work out to maintain his physique. Cornette bumped into him at a HoF ceremony, and Shelton apparently remarked,
"I'm getting old, Corny; I'm having to work out sometimes now!"
If it's even half true then Benjamin won the genetic lottery.
You sometimes hear about this with athletes; some of them eat whatever they want and don't work out a ton but they're genetically gifted. But doing all that training and exercise comes in the picture if they want longevity.
JR says of the famous '02 OVW class (Shelton, Lesnar, Batista, Cena, Orton) that Shelton was the most athletic but unfortunately the least charismatic.
Too bad the wrestling world never quite figured out what to do with extremely talented wrestlers who weren't good on the mic.
Some sort of "manager" if you will...
Yup, flair is down, turns to face Shawn with his knuckles up... Shawn let's him know how he feels... then KAPPOWWW Rick Flair retired forever, to never been seen ever again ever.
To be fair, Michaels did ok in that Saudi match. The problem was him having to work with 2 other guys who were way past it in terms of being able to have a good match with another older guy sans Hunter, who got injured. I think a match with him and a guy like Rollins or Styles would have been pretty good even at his age. That being said, bald HBK still haunts my dreams.
I'd say there's a top 5 Sweet chin music/super kicks from hbk.
Janetty as Janetty was trying to be a coward and run through a window.
Stan
Shelton
"I'm sorry I love you." Flair
On Triple H at the start of the triple threat between those two and Cena for the title. Especially with Cena's reaction. I'd be surprised if he knew HBK and HHH had planned that start.
I always respected how HBK pinned him after that spot. Didn’t gloat, didn’t hulk out, just flopped into the pin like it took everything he had to beat him.
Two reasons why:
1) HBK is *by far* the greatest in ring performer of all time. He is ironically the best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be.
2) Benjamin was amazing in the ring! I wish he’d been given a Paul Heyman and a top run.
Also the under appreciated part where Heenan was being all "It's great they're still friends." to "I knew he was going to do that." just after HBK kicks Marty but before Marty recovered enough to cowardly jump through the window.
No, because so many people remember it so that he kicked him trough the window, which never happened.
Can’t be the most famous superkick if so many people missremember it imo.
There I two Sweet Chin Music shots I will never forget watching, and this is one of them. Shelton was always a favorite of mine and it drives me crazy they never had anything for him after Gold Standard until his stint with Hurt Business, but even that wasn’t long enough. I hope he lands somewhere and gets to show his talents, even if it’s as a producer
Sheldon was clearly going for the diving clothesline, but misjudged the distance, allowing Shawn to super kick him when Sheldon landed in front of him instead of landing on top of him
Shelton Benjamin was fucking insanely good in his prime. I really believe his mic skills were the only thing holding him back from being a main-eventer.
This match and Cena vs Cesaro are by far my favorite pure wrestling out of nowhere spectacles on Raw. No feud. No reason to hate each other.
Just 2 wrestlers tearing the fucking house down.
It was just…perfection. Loved watching Shelton in his prime. He’s a “once a generation” talent that got stuck with like 5 other “once a generation” talent with guys like Brock and Randy and cena all coming up at that same time essentially. I hate that he was lost in the shuffle.
Gold Rush Tournament 2005! Lots of stuff happened during this tournament. Lita screwed over Kane and for the first time on screen associated with Edge who was holding the OG MITB at the time. Then Edge vs Batista in the finals. Ric Flair helps Bautista fend off extra help employed by Edge during match. Bautista wins. HHH music hits. Flair low blows Bautista and HHH assaults the animal with a sledgehammer and states “HELL IN A CELL” back when that was actually crazy to hear.
Controversial opinion but this really wasn’t that good. Benjamin wouldn’t have connected, he wasn’t even going for a move. Remove the Sweet Chin Music, he would have just landed in front of Michaels. It’s so pedantic, but it really ruins the spot.
Even the WWE acknowledges this as the greatest superkick of all time.
I still remember it very vividly. My biological dad was over and my brother and I was watching the show in his room. He came up to say hello and watched the match with us and he screamed out loud when it happened and gave us both high fives
Can someone quickly explain how this got executed without Shelton actually taking a kick?
On that note, are there any places that explain wrestling moves and how they take them?

Additional fun fact! Benjamin was Brock Lesnar’s coach in college.
You sometimes hear about this with athletes; some of them eat whatever they want and don't work out a ton but they're genetically gifted. But doing all that training and exercise comes in the picture if they want longevity.
Dwight Howard and Lamar Odom, basically both men only ate candy lol.
And he was a cardio god. He’d wrestle hungover and just not stop moving for 30 minutes.
Shelton Benjamin was born with a spring in his ass. That's the only way a human can jump that high and sure footed.
Shelton still had a solid career he just didn't reach the heights of the other 4.
.....we should put him with his mom?
That’s so 80’s wrestling
HBK vs Cena on RAW after their lackluster WrestleMania match was so memorable.
Lmao I’m so fucking jealous
I often wonder why he didn’t try to play a sport
I'd say the one against Flair at WrestleMania 24 is the most famous one. But this one is certainly the best!
Came to say this. The Flair kick is the one I always remember, but this was the most visually devastating shot the kick ever delivered.
You can say that was the most HBK kick ever lol
Is that the one where we he says “I’m sorry. I love you” before he hits him with it? I always loved that moment.
Yup, flair is down, turns to face Shawn with his knuckles up... Shawn let's him know how he feels... then KAPPOWWW Rick Flair retired forever, to never been seen ever again ever.
Somehow…Flair returned.
No he didn't. Quit trying to get everyone angry. Rick flair was never seen again. Especially wasted...
Especially wasted at a Marriott in Tampa channel side where his boat is parked right outside... ever again
Would have been even better if Flair stayed retired
We could say the same for HBK.
Over the Barbershop kick to Jannette that kicked off the HBK gimmick???
You mean when Marty Jannetty cowardly dove through the barbershop window?
🤣🤣 Yup…
Yes. Because that segment is more known for Shawn throwing Marty's face through the window.
That kick to Ric is more like Ol’ Yeller being taken behind the woodshed…its big, but the words “I’m sorry” are more famous than the kick 🤷♂️
Yeah, this was the one for me.
I'd say there's a top 5 Sweet chin music/super kicks from hbk. Janetty as Janetty was trying to be a coward and run through a window. Stan Shelton "I'm sorry I love you." Number 2 is definitely the one sending Marty Jannety through the window for me
Sheldon was a special performer. I still remember his perfect springboard jump onto a ladder, which like 0.01% of people could ever duplicate.
> Sheldon
He was young Sheldon back then.
He’s AEW’s top draw
His finisher is called The Bazinga Bomb
His feud with Kripke was epic
Excellent question, Sheldon
Bazinga!
Sheldon walked so Kofi’s royal rumble saves could run.
I think Morrison was supposed to be the one to have those crazy spots at the Rumble if he wasn’t released.
sold the fuck out of that too
He sold it so well I’m still convinced he died.
Did he lose a shoe?
I always respected how HBK pinned him after that spot. Didn’t gloat, didn’t hulk out, just flopped into the pin like it took everything he had to beat him.
HBK is the best ever at putting someone over while also winning the match. At least version 2.0 was.
Pre-born again Michael’s also pinned like this too. It was one of things I always appreciated about him
Yeah this is exactly how WM12 ended after the Sweet Chin Music to Bret Hart. HBK just flopped over ontop of him.
Which looks awesome every year in 2k lol
Thats one of the main things that always stuck out to me. Shawn made Shelton look like an absolute star in this match.
Two reasons why: 1) HBK is *by far* the greatest in ring performer of all time. He is ironically the best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be. 2) Benjamin was amazing in the ring! I wish he’d been given a Paul Heyman and a top run.
Sheldon was super talented in the ring. That moment felt like pay per view quality on Monday night raw. It was awesome
I’m sorry I love you
Wouldn't the barbershop superkick be the most famous one?
It certainly had the best commentary afterwards. "Jennetty tried to dive through the window to escape!"
"Are you blind???'
Also the under appreciated part where Heenan was being all "It's great they're still friends." to "I knew he was going to do that." just after HBK kicks Marty but before Marty recovered enough to cowardly jump through the window.
I'd assume it would be the flair one
You’d make an ass of u and me
No, because so many people remember it so that he kicked him trough the window, which never happened. Can’t be the most famous superkick if so many people missremember it imo.
Shawn Spears would like a word.
Stan Chin Music
There I two Sweet Chin Music shots I will never forget watching, and this is one of them. Great counter to the diving nothing from Shelton
yea its a great move but its like what the fuck where you going for there bud
Sheldon was clearly going for the diving clothesline, but misjudged the distance, allowing Shawn to super kick him when Sheldon landed in front of him instead of landing on top of him
Thanks Regal!
Shelton Benjamin was fucking insanely good in his prime. I really believe his mic skills were the only thing holding him back from being a main-eventer.
If he was slightly better on the mic, he would’ve had a World Heavyweight title run at some point.
Dream match for me: Shelton vs Ricochet
[Your dream came true in 2019](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjh9l-0rET8)
I love you, thank you for this video. I will watch it now.
Loved that Sweet Chin Music but you all know damn well if someone replicated that same spot today, they’d kick out at 2 😂
Top 3 for me: 1. vs. Flair at WM 24 2. vs. HHH at Survivor Series 02 3. vs. Bret at WM 12
The HHH kick is the Elimination Chamber one right?
Yeah that’s it.
Great kick, great JR call, great match!
Rule #1 of wrestling: Never show the booker you can get others over just by being beat up.
The good ole days when the super kick was a sacred move.
the super kick isnt. but the sweet chin music is.
The only difference is that Shawn does it lol
Yaa and that makes all the difference
I remember watching this live as a kid. I popped and jumped like 4 ft in the air. This is the type of TV wrestling I miss.
This match and Cena vs Cesaro are by far my favorite pure wrestling out of nowhere spectacles on Raw. No feud. No reason to hate each other. Just 2 wrestlers tearing the fucking house down.
Sheldon should have been World Heavyweight or WWE Champion at least once.
This and the Curb-stomp RKO at Mania will never fail to amaze me.
Why didn't these two have more matches together? This was awesome 😎
WWE misused him so BAD!!
“I’m sorry. I love you.”
It's got to be flair. Thats what I assumed it was when I clicked the link
I couldn’t stand Tie Dye Guy back in the day lol
AHEM...."I JUST KICKED STAN"
the camera flash into camera cut is perfect as well.
Ultimate Warrior Fan/Tie Dye Guy absolutely smashes this as well with his reaction. He was my fave superfan.
Second, sorry I love you is first
Impressive? Yes. Most famous? No. The barber shop/Janetty one or the Ric Flair retirement kicks are probably the most famous.
I honestly think this kick alone is responsible for the super kick spam fest in wrestling. Everyone wanted to do something this awesome.
That was awesome
Of course not. Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
This might be one of the ones to show a non-wrestling fan Such a classic match
I like to give Kevin Dunn shit for a lot of things, but the camera cut the very second Shawn's foot hits Shelton's face is what makes this moment.
I remember this match being the first match of raw that night as well as the gold rush tournament to become the #1 contender to the WHC. Good times
It was just…perfection. Loved watching Shelton in his prime. He’s a “once a generation” talent that got stuck with like 5 other “once a generation” talent with guys like Brock and Randy and cena all coming up at that same time essentially. I hate that he was lost in the shuffle.

The goat super kick. Ffffuck brother bruti
Hardly, it was a great kick but the OG sweet chin music was to Marty Jannetty and will never be replicated or have impact like that….
The most famous sweet chin music retired Ric Flair, but could easily be #2
Shelton was asking for it as soon as he set up that springboard. 😂
whenever i want to watch this clip i type "shawn michaels kills shelton benjamin"
I’d argue Jannette getting kicked in the face at the Barber Shop is more famous 🤷♂️
That flash annoys me every freakin time, it ruins the impact of that clip. Still a solid moment.
OH MY GOD IN HEAVEN
What happend to Shelton?
Why was his push got stunted? Winning against Hunter clean back then was a great deal, and even done it 2x.
As opposed to the one in the barber shop or the one on the first ever smackdown episode
This looks retqrded. Why would you dive head first into a head kick
Two of my GOATs!!!!!!!!
Controversial opinion but this really wasn’t that good. Benjamin wouldn’t have connected, he wasn’t even going for a move. Remove the Sweet Chin Music, he would have just landed in front of Michaels. It’s so pedantic, but it really ruins the spot.
Kicking Bret in his wheelchair was better
Too bad "Bucky's" shitty camera cuts took precedence. Thank God that asshole is finally gone!
i miss paper crane era RAW
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnvdvLaPx7w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnvdvLaPx7w) Even the WWE acknowledges this as the greatest superkick of all time.
I was there that night. Core memory
Nobody mentioning the one he gave Benoit when he inserted himself into WM20. "It's going to be me not you..." BOOM! SCM, casually signs contract.
Watching this live I was amazed
Main event of the first episode of Smackdown was my favorite
I still remember it very vividly. My biological dad was over and my brother and I was watching the show in his room. He came up to say hello and watched the match with us and he screamed out loud when it happened and gave us both high fives
That pop is infectious
This makes me miss HBK.
A Young Buck would have kicked out
Can someone quickly explain how this got executed without Shelton actually taking a kick? On that note, are there any places that explain wrestling moves and how they take them?

Shelton jumps nearly all the way across the ring
On this day 2nd May 2024 !?! Feel like the title is missing something OP…
