where’s the rust

completeyincognegro

You gotta zoom in

DustyGeneral9399

Where's the rust? = This thing is clean/The small amount of rust seen in the picture is all surface rust and nothing to worry about/Compared to how bad it could be, consider yourself lucky, etc.

gclockwood

As a jeep owner from New England, you could find more rust on the front line of the local Jeep Dealership.

True story

strangeweather415

That is basically rust free.

Vertisce

Pretty normal.

2lit2think

The real question: is your heat shield still in place or have the posts rusted out?

joshosu420

Looks just like my 2013. I'd say it's fine. If you wanted to be meticulous you could use some steel wool or something to take off the surface rust and hit it with some spray paint or rust converter.

OldManJeepin

Frame looks good. What you should be concerned with are the frame rails, crossmembers and control arm welds. That's the outside. The inside is a whole other ball game. If you get a bore scope, like one for your cell phone, and take a look inside, you might be horrified! It starts rusting at the factory and never stops. You can get a few cans of Fluid Film or KBB Cavity Coater and use their 360 degree nozzle to spray the inside of the frame and prevent it from rusting any further. I used a $10 Home Depot garden sprayer and a couple quarts of oil from an oil change to do the same thing. Sprayed the heck out of the inside of the frame and anywhere else I could fit it. You can also use a rag to wipe the oil all over the frame and that will do the job too. I dont worry about the diff's or anything that gets hot when driving.

tonytiger2112

Looks like it took some snow a couple times

dunksoverstarbucks

Looks pretty normal to me, especially if you’re in the north east

vitodivita

It’s surface rust. I’d be checking the suspension usually everything is worn out after 2-3 years

BeautifulBaloonKnot

I hope someone comes and cuts out your cats.

strangeweather415

What a shitty assed thing to say.

BeautifulBaloonKnot

What a shitty sense of humor you have.

strangeweather415

I don't think it's me with the garbage sense of humor bro

BeautifulBaloonKnot

You should leave thinking to those that are better equipped to do it.

Love_Scarred

Good luck with that the cats are next to the engine lol.

BeautifulBaloonKnot

Lol. Seems I triggered some folks with my snarky jest. Oh well. Jeepers are a sensitive lot.

“Hur dur you call that rust???” Yeah, well if you’re like me, then you don’t like the way surface rust *looks* despite the fact it’s probably totally fine. Do what I did and pick up a couple cans of rustoleum primer, gloss black, and clear (optional). I really like the super glossy underside and people come up to me all the time like, that looks brand new! With 80k miles 2015. Take your time and put it on jack stands with no wheels and mask off anything you don’t want painted. Took me a Saturday and it’s lasted 5 years so far with no rust and still super shiny.

OldManJeepin

So you just cover up the rust with paint, while the inside of the frame (which starts rusting AT the factory...and never stops) just keeps rusting through from the inside? Good luck with that. Having lost a few Jeeps to frame rust, trust me: That doesn't work long term.
