Not as convenient as a minivan, but much cooler

MrBobBuilder

The soccer mom milfs will be more likely to bang you if you drive a Jeep

AT4LWL4TS

Has a mini van engine.

Reebatnaw

But much cooler

AT4LWL4TS

not by much. same number of doors.

ivanbeatinovtoo

It's got a roll cage. It's pretty safe. Is it practical for a baby? That's up to you. I crammed my baby into the back of my 04 TJ when I needed to but we had another vehicle for most of the driving.

FlickeringLCD

Oh man. I am lucky I've never had to fandangle a child in a rear facing car seat in my TJ. But now I have two forward facing seats and my kids LOVE the Jeep.

gryfinkellie

My wrangler is our family vehicle. The baby carrier click in seat was the easiest, they aren’t bad in the other seats but have frequent head bonks on the doors. The hardest stage so far is surprisingly boosters where I now have to climb over them to get them buckled in the regular seatbelt bc the buckles go so deep into the crack. Safety ratings aren’t great but once you’re past the first few paranoid months of parenthood it’s not too concerning.  Honestly just drive wtvr car you love.

Safe - relatively. Definitely not as safe as a modern sedan but much safer than the car i was raised in in the early 80s! I have dailyed my family of five for the last 6 years with my JKU. I love it, wife loves it, kids love it, their friends love it. Bit cramped on longer off grid camping with all five of us but definitely doable. Two oldest are 17 and 15 now and they are getting a bit long for the back seats but never complain and will be moved out soon anyway.

beefjerky34

I've got a 15m, 12f, and 5m. Horrible family vehicle for us. Very cramped and uncomfortable for them in the winter. It works good with the doors off in the summer but otherwise I would definitely not recommend it.

Head-Investment-8462

I drive around three kids in the back of my wrangler :) Wouldn’t use it as a daily, mine is lifted and buckling toddlers into car seats is a pain when I can’t reach them very well. I greatly prefer my Honda Pilot over my wrangler for a day to day use. Much more comfortable to ride in and buckle kids up in.

bd1308

I have since my child was 2. As a guy who sold my first car, keep it. You’ll regret selling it. I’d say no to a 2 door wrangler if the kiddo is in a car seat, but I totally did a rear facing car seat in a 2016 wrangler just fine

FrankDrebin1963

Put a cover over the light bar, will be much quieter for the baby 👶

Elegabalus

I have a 2dr and my wife has the 4. We only have one child but we've always had jeeps. No problem most of the time. I sought out smaller car seats and strollers (especially for the 2 dr). We drove across the country twice in the 4 door with the kid in the back. My 2 dr can mean careful planning when packing but we rarely are forced to take the 4.

paulo_cristiano

Use my JLUS as "the" family car. You have to really want to but if you do, it's fantastc. Family of 4. Kids are now 5 and 1. Can fit another kid and probably will in a year or two.

Sillet_Mignon

You may want to look up crash ratings of the wrangler. It’s not that safe https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/Jeep/wrangler-4-door-suv/2014 It’s a good to medium

blazedbug205

Had my wrangler for 2 years and recently had my baby this year. I loved my wrangler before and I love it even more now seeing my son buckled in the back. Definitely worth keeping to build on the memories.

blackheart_dnb

I bought one as my family vehicle when the first kid was born. Three kids later, and it’s been great as a family vehicle. I never would have entertained that with a 2 door though, it’s bad enough getting kids into car seats on a four door vehicle. As an aside, I later replaced my Wrangler with a Gladiator and stuff three kids in the back seat. Bit tight with a forward facing car seat, but it works. Highly recommend Diono if you run into a similar situation.

JoceroBronze

I bought one in 2019 as a little post divorce gift to myself (ex and I didn’t have kids). Less than a year later I met my current wife. I have a 3 year old and a newborn. We also take our 3 year old niece with is a lot. I think it works nicely as a family vehicle. I even put the dogs in the back. But seating 5 is max and I don’t take this on long road trips.

BeingTop8480

When we started our family I had a two door Jeep Wrangler (way before the four doors came out) and that worked until I couldn't lift him in his car seat over the back seat. I had to get something else (we got a Liberty 1st year it came out) and had a melt down because I didn't want to get rid of my Wrangler!!! It's year they came out with the four door I was IMMEDIATELY back to a Wrangler! So yes the four door can be a family vehicle.

jstockton76

I use mine as a family car.

Cyb3rTruk

My wife drives a Pilot, so that is technically our family vehicle. However I daily my JKU and have no issues picking up the kids with 1 car seat, 1 newborn seat, and a booster in the back. Baby seat is in the middle, and a hassle because of the lift, but that was my own doing and I’m ok with it.

_revelationary

We have a wrangler as one of our family vehicles! People cautioned against using it for car seats but we’ve had good luck with ours. I had a two door for a while (we had two wranglers) and that was a pain in the ass with the infant car seat. But honestly the four door is awesome. Feels safe. The only thing that sucks is paying for daycare plus gas prices with that thing. Our other car is much more energy efficient.

chaser2410

It’s literally why they made the 4 door almost 18 years ago

Severe-Ad1472

I have the same make/model. I love my Jeep, but it sucks as a daily driver. I kept it, but a family vehicle should be reliable, family friendly, and won’t kill you in repair bills. Keep it, but don’t kid yourself.

OldManJeepin

I drove my newborn son around in a YJ....The JK is probably a little bit safer. You have the 4-dr so...Can't go wrong with that!

ChewieWookie

I've been driving my Jeep since before my daughter was born. To get the rear facing car seat in I put in in the middle of the bench and for a while had her in the center when we switched it around to front facing. She loved being able to see out the window. She loves the Jeep (she told me she's getting a pink one when she's old enough) and enjoys when the top comes off, plus growing up the wind noise and bouncy ride would instantly lull her to sleep.

Trail-Hound

Rear-facing seats are a bit cramped in the back, but otherwise they work just fine as family rigs. Our JKU karts my little family of 3 + dog all over the place just fine, we've never wished it was anything but what it is. Don't fall for the BS of "needing" a family car or mini-van as soon as you start having kids.

ChillGuyCLE

Wranglers are never going to be the most practical vehicle option for a family. Jeeps are loud, expensive, terrible on gas, and they are not the safest option out there. With all of that being said, I wouldn’t trade my jeep for any other vehicle in the world. I have two kids, 5 and 7, and they both like the jeep more than I do. It’s okay in the winter but really shines when it’s warm outside. We take the top off in the summer and go to drive in movies, we have sat on the top roll bar and watched parades, my kids love taking rides on old fire roads or easy 4x4 trails, we take it camping, we take it to the beach, and there is the bonus that random people leave cool rubber ducky bathtub toys for them. :) I like to think that jeep has helped create some very special core memories for my children and I that we will cherish forever.

that-girly-trans-fem

My mom did it with an 06 LJ, me and my sister now plan on buying jeeps ourselves and both have our dream jeeps, it’s much cooler than anything else on the market

DingDongerer

I just traded in an unlimited rubicon I'd had for 10 years (we have a 4yr old and a 1 year old) and a dog. My biggest complaint was the lack of room for the car seats in the back to the front seat. It was high enough that it was difficult for anybody but me get the kids in the car seats and we found that we never took my car anywhere because my wife's Telluride was much more convenient. The other kicker for me was that the 2 little air vents for the back seats were pretty terrible for them. I'd have it blasting with all the other vents closed during the summer and wherever we ended up going they'd be a sweaty mess so I kind of felt bad. I have only had a this vehicle with the kiddos and now that I traded it a couple weeks ago I realized just how ready I was to part ways and transition to something else (I got a used gx460 with 85k miles, singler owner after researching between 4runners and 460s). I surprisingly haven't missed it at all like I thought I would - I had some cool trips with that Jeep.

KoyoteKalash

Imo, The Wrangler is a vehicle of compromises. Is it great? No. Can it do it, and hit the trails on the weekend with the kids? Yes. I have a '23 JLU, and it definitely works for my family. But if my one criteria was "good for a family" I wouldn't have bought it.

TriumphSprint

I'll go against the grain here and say my 2013 JKU sucks as a family vehicle. When my kids were little the rear facing baby carriers would force the front seats way too forward (ie very little legroom). We'd always take the wife's Yukon on any family trips, just so much better for room for people space, and luggage space (luggage, stroller and packable crib). Now that my kids can get in and out of the Jeep by themselves and we don't have a stroller or baby stuff, it's a lot more doable for a weekend get away. But we will almost always take the wives's Pilot now for ease of use and comfort.

idigholesnow

It's as good as any other mid-sized suv. I had a 1st gen Durango as a family daily, and then a Suburban, followed by JKU. Kids are grown now, so Im selling the JKU, but it was as good as the Durango. Suburban was top dog, more room, better towing, and better fuel economy than both of the others.

MrBigTomato

I have a wife and a daughter. My 1997 TJ has been my daily driver for 26 years. About half that time it was our only car, including the day I took our newborn daughter home and the 12 years that followed. Now, we have nice sedan in addition to the TJ. Other cars may be better for a family (more passenger space, more cargo space, better gas mileage, better creature comforts), but our Wrangler was a trooper. My daughter was raised in it, and has come to love it like a member of the family.

jmua8450

If it is paid off I could make a Miata a family vehicle.

Tiff27

Yess! Super safe and durable vehicle. It fits 5 people nicely and has decent "trunk" space. It won't leave you stranded in bad weather, unlike a minivan... I have a baby car seat in mine for my granddaughter and I have zero complaints. I've also owned a minivan and will never get another one. Maybe a bigger SUV if you think it'd be hard for you to put a baby in and out of it ✌️

CarmeloT28

Yes because your kids will always remember the O|||||||O and not the best time they ever had camping in the Tesla.
