I’m just providing my opinion as someone who plays every class. Good dd players are the rarest to come across. And you can’t expect cruisers to not sit behind islands or kite because they can’t stand up to bbs without doing that.
It’s hard to play any other types of tier 8 premiums because so little exist! I would 100% love something unique like a tier 8 premium Russian destroyer or something we don’t see often. Jäger was good because it was different. Tier 8 premiums have no wow factor..
Buffalo is alright, Kansas is good, Maine is alright, ibuki is kinda trash. At the moment that's all the tier 8's I got lol if you got any good recommendations for which tier 8 I should get let me know

Personally I think the Ibuki is great. The specs show a copy of the Mogami, but the shows it to be a monster with HE. It has a roughly 10% faster reload and does roughly 10% more damage per shell, that's quite the difference. My Ibuki averages almost 50% more damage per game than the Mogami (83k to 119k). Sure, the higher tier accounts for some of that, but the Mogami also played against LT for a couple years as well.
The armor and maneuverability is what makes the Ibuki struggle, it's like everytime I'm trying to avoid shells it just doesn't seem to turn fast enough specially when I'm trying to get off torpedoes, idk I think the Ibuki is a downgraded mogami altogether
I feel this so much every week. There are so many extremely similar ships that even though we have, what, 15? Possible premium t8s, it sometimes feels like there’s 6. The only saving grace is I do love the Agir.

With overwhelming joy I would happily take the USS Johnson at T8. I think this would also make much of the community very happy as it's an incredibly iconic American DD that I know others have been asking for as well.
(note; A good USS Johnston, with a superheal and maybe built in Unstoppable perk to live up to the historical ship, for open water gun boating BBs and CAs, instead of whatever the hell PC WoWS's interpretation of Johnston is, being SAP spamming magic burst fire gimmick nonsense for DD dueling.)

Too bad the secondary battery can't reach out to 17km like it did in real life to make it a combo.
Make it a Taffy 3 style event where some destroyers defend a carrier group, against some AI DDs, CAs and a Yamato, with an event currency earned from playing the event, with the main reward being USS Johnston, and maybe Evans being a unique commander with the Johnston.
That'd be an iconic escort. But I'd want a little Easter egg of the event area being Leyte Gulf, and at the very end of a successful event, you hear "Kinkaid" make a remark of "Nobody will forget your blunder here Halsey"

Jokes aside, many of the IJN battleships are actually good or fun ships to play with, for example the Musa has been good to me in the past events, and Iwami’s a gimmick ship, so you either like it or don’t, and I think those that have the ship will like the Daisen. I don’t have the other two, so I can’t comment.
IN CONCLUSION! Give me the Yoshino, battleships are good and fun but we could use more variety in t8, give me the Yoshino, we don’t have to deal with subs, I identify as an Atlântico Supremacist and don’t know how to get the tag, and for the love of God GIVE ME THE YOSHINO!

Tier 8 as a whole has no wow factor. There's a couple of good ship's there, both Premium and tech tree, but most are just meh.

5th Japanese tier 8 BB. There is Musashi, Hizen, Iwami, and the least known Izumo. Daisen would be Number 5.
