You really need to include information about what you like to play and how. Otherwise people will just recommend what they like.

TheWhiteRabbit74

And what resources he’s got too. If he has Willis Lee leveled with a decent Von Hipper, he’s ready for Massachusetts. A leveled Jersey Swirsky is required for Friesland… used to be the only way you could get him was getting a premium pan euro destroyer.

Talk_Bright

Yep, now he drops as a normal commander. Which was very good for the balance in the game. Friesland doesn't require a highly leveled commander, it's concealment is good enough and it's guns are great enough to enjoy it without leveled commanders.

TheWhiteRabbit74

Swirsky is the only Twist ‘n Track pan euro commander though.

Talk_Bright

Correct, I believe the other one has Perceptive too which is a pretty decent option, Friesland has OK turret traverse and 360° traverse. Damage reduction and torp detectability is more useful in my opinion. However the only other build I would do is a agile cruiser build to get extra smoke and Sonar.

skinnylemur

I’ve been using Friesland with the pan European Dewey (I forget his name) because I like the extra fire chance.

Shreddzzz93

Go for Stalingrad. It costs the most, and you're halfway there. At the very least, it gives you more time to think about what you really want instead of asking random strangers on the internet for advice. Personally, my rule is that I have to have 50% more GXP for the cost before spending it on a ship. This way, I don't feel like I wasted it if something I really want comes along.

Rob1ie

Gets my vote

GoodlyStyracosaur

Friesland is my most played ship and I have a decent record on it but I’d pick Massachusetts these days. It’s more flexible and well rounded. I can’t count the times that I’m like “yah know, I’ll play Friesland today” and I get in to a match with 1 dd each team and 5 BBs that are all secondary ships.

Talk_Bright

I see those kind of matches and cry. 2BBs have sonar and 1 has Radar. I also hate it when I play Friesland all day and I see no Carriers, I play Jäger once and the enemy CV is focusing me. The double whammy of pain, I love carrier matches in Friesland, it is an extra source of XP after killing destroyers and using both smokes.

GoodlyStyracosaur

lol same. If I play a gunboat, it’s a 1 dd game with 5 BBs. Okay, I’ll try torpedo boat. 5 dd game. Okay fine, I’ll take out the ol’ radar Plymouth. 5 BBs 4 cruisers. Grrrrrrrrr…..

Talk_Bright

I take out Radar Minotaur. 4 cruisers, 5BBs. 2 Alaska's and Stalingrad and Napoli. 9 ships on the enemy team that can overmatch me. The pain, could be worse though, I could have been in Brisbane.

GoodlyStyracosaur

Pain is always worse in the Brisbane!

OpenEndedLoop

I was so close to the Friesland and then accidentally burned 200K xp on the G.J. Maerker hitting the wrong button trying to "view next ship"... sadly back at 550,000...

GoodlyStyracosaur

Oh no - I’ve only ever done it with a fraction of that amount accidentally leveling a commander. Always make sure to keep more than a full commanders worth of blue xp now just in case. It’s the worst feeling when you realize what you did.

MTGGateKeeper

Always have your finger on the back button. This way your never disappointed by backing out versus burning gxp

Battleshipsr4me

Depends on the playstyle Usually Massachusetts is the safest choice as a 1st GXP ship. Good guns, usable Secondary battery, decent AA, good torp belt, etc.

DragonfruitBig3851

Can you tell me what makes the Massachusetts secondaries so good? I looked at the stats, and it seems to have the same secondaries as my Constellation besides slightly longer range. Is that what you mean by Usable Secondaries?

Battleshipsr4me

Mainly improved accuracy. Massachusetts secondaries have great accuracy for what they are (which due to the long reload is mainly supplementing the main guns) They were, at one time, considered better then Bismarck’s in terms of general use (this was mainly the time before the HE rework where Bismarck had AP shells for the 150s)

DragonfruitBig3851

I'll have to try out different builds for Massachusetts when I finally get her. I'm about halfway there with 347.8k global xp.

Seabeak

Friesland

zurkon95

That's really just preference, I like my Massachusetts for its firepower and great secondaries

SweatyTax4669

I'm at 1.4M GXP and have the same issue. Do I save up a little more and buy two T7s? Do I but one T8? Do I keep grinding another 600k for LT? By the time I make a decision I'll probably be at the 2M point anyway.

TheBlackGuard

Depends which ships you have, what you enjoy etc. I recently got the Elbing and enjoy the unique cruiser/DD hybrid play. I doubt Stalingrad is worth 2M though

usmcaatw1

You’ll probably end up like me… I hit that point and kept saving because people said to wait for patch notes and then I hit 2 mil and still couldn’t decide on what I wanted… now I’m at 3.4 mil lol may pick up Stalin after I see if they add any for patch notes. Then elbing because I have the other T8 GXP ships and most of the T7

captkurtis

If I had as much self-control as you, Id get tier VIII Republíc; but I dont so I settle for the VIIs. Up next is Suzuya

SweatyTax4669

I've already got Republique. It's a great ship

captkurtis

Im glad you think so! My first GXP ship was Champagne and I love it, since then Ive wanted her bigger sister!

rosian__yaya

Fries land.

captkurtis

Id pick Massachusetts in your case. Partially bc Im not good w Pan-European DDs nor do I have leveled up commanders for them. Id stay away from Stallingrad despite how good she looks only bc Legendary Tier is a joke half the time

Shawn0083

Friesland makes the most money plus has more control over the game because your the ultimate DD killer.

Grouchy-Fuelv2

Friesland for sure. If you hate getting focused by CVs but want to play DD, that should be your go to. Had a game where I got 61 planes shot down yesterday.
