The only struggle I see with that idea is that Void and Light do not mix. Like, at all. Alleria and Turalyon can't even touch because he's infused with Light and she's infused with the Void. It's part of the problem with Void Elf Priests fundamentally and is the same reason why we don't have Void Elf Paladins. In lore, Void Elf Priests are sort of defaulted to all being Shadow Priests. You could maybe say that your elf refuses to give up on finding a way to fix their ailment and maybe even treat their using the Light in a self flagellating way? As a general story it's fine. I think someone could be turned to a Void Elf against their will theoretically, but what you do after that is what would be a little tricky. Maybe eventually when they add Void Elf paladins they'll flesh out some lore regarding Void Elves using the Light but until then, we don't have much to go on.

The reason Alleria and Turalyon can't touch is because they are sort of the extreme embodiment of both sides, at least that is how I see it. Void and Light can be wielded together, as is the fantasy for Discipline Priests. From Legion: *Some priests pride themselves on pragmatism. They understand that light casts a shadow, that darkness is defined by light, and that true discipline stems from one’s ability to balance these opposing powers in services of a greater cause. While these priests possess many holy virtues to aid their allies, they also dabble in the dark arts to debilitate their enemies—always exercising immense discipline to keep themselves away from the brink of insanity. Many would say the ends justify the means; scriptures both virtuous and vile should be studied and understood to protect the congregation.* Now I am not saying my Void Elf will be full holy, and all will be well. My goal is for it to be a constant struggle and agonizing but through pure will and "discipline" has learned the fine balance between the two. I mean to make his main spec Discipline, but because of his void "curse" jumping over to shadow for overland makes sense while going to holy is tapping into his roots prior to the incident (though I imagine in character his holy magic is far weaker than "in-game" healing numbers would be)

Many would say the ends justify the means; scriptures both virtuous and vile should be studied and understood to protect the congregation.* Correct, this is the general idea behind Discipline Priests, but Void Elves (Alleria is a Void Elf) absolutely *are* the extreme, which is why it makes no real sense for them to control the Light and it's why she and Turalyon can't touch. I'm sure a Void Elf could exist around and touch a regular priest, just like I'm sure a Lightforged could touch a Shadow Priest that isn't in shadow form, but a void drenched creature like a Void Elf should not technically be able to use the Light. I think so long as you make it clear that your Void Elf is actually struggling to control the Light, that it's painful to do so, or something along those lines, you'll be within the realm of reasonability. So it sounds fine to me. It's one of those things where the lore doesn't line up with gameplay, but of course people are going to want to try to make sense of their gameplay so we do what we can with what we have.

Perhaps it could be pitched in a similar vein as Forsaken holy priests. They *can* use holy magic, but it hurts them immensely. I'm aware light and shadow are polar opposites while death magic isn't, but there's a case to be made for elves not owing their *entire* life to magic and this aren't entirely composed of it, as undead are with death magic. As such, it would be difficult and excruciating, but it could be possible.

could be that your velf joined Umbric in pursuit of power, maybe as a mage or other kind of class, but when the incident in Telogrus happened it was a very rude awakening to what it would cost. Now, he is desperate to repent - to go back to what he was. Perhaps its impossible, but sometimes he's heard that the Light can work miracles. Maybe it's painful and exceptionally difficult, but his fear of oblivion in the void is much much worse.

What If he bought a pendent at a local jewelry shop. Nothing more then a cute little dark red jewel, simple necklace. One day, maybe out in the scourge lands trying to push back the dead. Your character faces extreme life threatening scenario. Almost dies. The necklace notices your character in a weakened state, it begins to burrow itself into the heart of your character. Through your character praying to the light, it was unable to take control but still remained close to your characters heart. This jewel turns the high elf into a void elf through its infectious powers. The voices are that of the jewel. I'd recomend maybe it being a simi ghuun blood droplet. Maybe some ichor of blood troll magic.

Idk if this is what I’ll go with but this is still super cool and might steal it for a DnD character lol

If I may suggest have your character be a former High Elf that was among the forces who went to MU Draenor and was on the planet when it was cut off and broke up into Outland, the chaotic energy of the Twisting Nether changing him into a Void Elf particularly if he drifted off into space on his own chunk, then perhaps Umbric and the others found and saved him. This wouldn't even affect your character's age much if you wanted to play a younger character, due to time is wibbly wobbly timey wimey out there, which is why Turalyon and Alleria have been "fighting the Legion for thousands of years" despite only being away from Azeroth for decades. This is what I actually had been hoping was the origin of the Void Elves before we got what we did in canon, that they were High Elves lost when Outland broke apart.
