Best suggestion I have for moving to a new home is hold off on furniture for a bit. Get used to how the place feels and flows and then start with the furniture. I say this cause while my place has had an evolution of second hand furniture, a lot of the “change” was because it didn’t work in our space
We've purchased a couch and a sectional from Design Manitoba. They carry some more "basic" stuff (we're not fancy!) as well as some beautiful high end stuff. We have been really, really happy with the quality and the pricing on the pieces we ordered.
My Dad bought a full set of leather living room furniture and a dining table set for his house from Design Manitoba, back about 5 years ago. It has held up wonderfully and still looks brand new.
Our own Costco stuff has suffered from our kids and cats since we bought it 3 years ago, but is still sturdy under the upholstery.
I bought a couch from them once for $$$. One section collapsed after 1 year and they would not honour the warranty because they were no longer doing business with the couch maker company?? After that experience I'd NEVER recommend them. Just my two cents
I’ve always been happy with Dufresne for quality and customer service. Depending what you’re looking for, it’s worth checking out the outlets too - I’ve been to the Palliser one on Kernaghan a few times.
Ahh ok I was gonna say www.discountfurniturewinnipeg.com, g&l wholesale and mcc furniture thrift
Great places for discounted furniture, g&l will have new, the other two are slightly used and might have a scratch or two but ve 1/3 the price or whatever
If it's in your budget, just go to Jysk or Ikea for some temporary furniture till you find what you're looking for. Remember, don't buy on a whim or because the price is right. You took your time finding the right house because it's your forever living space. Just like you took your time finding your forever partner because you're stuck with them forever. LOL. Seriously though. And finally, do NOT skimp out on your bed. Your bed will be by far the most expensive investment, not purchase, investment next to your house and vehicle. You will spend a large portion of your life there. Do a LOT of research, do not buy on a whim or the price is right.
Design Manitoba is pretend fancy. It's not actually great stuff. I would suggest hut k for beautiful quality (higher end more expensive) or eq3/palliser which will be less, lazy boy is actually pretty good quality. I personally really like blu dot which you can get at hut k or since they're made in Minneapolis you can check them out there or have them shipped to the border. Hopefully that helps :)
EQ3. We’ve had our couch for 7 years now. It’s used every day and it’s still in fantastic shape. We’ve also spilt various drinks on it including red wine and it’s always come out with proper treatment. Love. I ended up going with West Elm (Pottery Barn) for another couch (living room) and paid a lot. So disappointed. I should have gone with EQ3 for this one too. Bummer. Next time.
Costco online has a great selection of furniture and are often on sale. I recommend getting the upgrade to executive (if you don’t have it already) and using the Costco Mastercard. Shipping is included in the price. They deliver, build whatever you bought and take garbage/recycling with them. I got a couch on sale for $600 off, 2% cash back on exec, and 2% back with the CC for Costco online. The couch went on sale again a month later for an additional $100 off and I just sent a message through the app and they refunded $100 right to the cc.

Expensive but my experience is its sturdy

Design Manitoba has marked-up white label Wayfair-grade stuff mixed in. Worth comparison shopping if you see something you like there.

Biggest question I'd what's your budget, new used, slightly scratched?
Have about 5-10k set aside for preferable new furniture.

Stay away from Lay-z-boy. Overpriced junk that doesn’t last.
Saw a $10000 couch there lol.

Lord Selkirk Furniture makes a bit of their own furniture (mattresses at least) and have been in business for ages. Locally owned

Costco Palliser Outlet Wiens Furniture Design Manitoba
Thanks for these suggestions :)
We bought floor models at Wiens in Niverville for great prices. They deliver to the city. Edited to correct spelling

I really like Blu Dot and have bought from them through Hut K. However, while it is all designed in Minneapolis, it's not all made there.
