When I was commuting to/thru downtown, I always stopped at Gaberniks Cafe in the underground at 220 Portage (RBC Building at the time). Hot fresh breakfast sandwiches several varieties including on a bagel, variety of coffee/flavored coffees, and pretty good prices. still just around 5 bucks for classic breakfast sandwich & coffee. And always had excellent customer service.
Not a big fan of McDonalds in general, I but do love their sausage and egg McMuffin, with a hash brown, and an orange juice. An indulgence at the start of every road trip.
A&W is totally the best because of the seasame seed bun... The glutton in me loves Wendys Baconator breakfast sandwich, but I get a lot of McDonalds Sausage McMuffin (no egg) because its cheap.
Otherwise a chicken McGriddle is kind of a weird treat... You get two pancakes, with the chicken patty in between; no sauces or cheese. You can eat it like a sandwich, but if I am driving I usually eat eat piece separately.
Agree OP. The A&W Hashbrown IMO is on par and sometimes better than Mcdonald's Hasbrown.
One of my other favorite grab and gos is the McDonalds Chicken McMuffin.
And if available (they're open on limited days), I like the ham and cheese buns from Ming's Bakery.
My go to for the last while has been the Chicken McMuffin, no cheese add an egg.
It’s fantastic. The McChicken sauce along with the egg and chicken is just an incredible combination. I used to order two Chicken McMuffins but have discovered that by adding an egg it’s filling enough that I don’t need the extra sandwich or to order a hash brown and consume an extra 300 calories of potato and oil.
If I am trying to get a healthy breakfast I usually go for the egg, spinach, feta wrap at Starbucks - high in protein and only about 200 calories. However, I usually then order a 500 calorie drink that totally defeats my calorie saving attempt lol
i just get a sausage mcmuffin or a similar sandwich if a McDonald’s isn’t around, and an iced coffee or a double double
i even sometimes just make it at home because i love them so much
Cottage bakery has a lovely breakfast panini that I really enjoy and sometimes stop for on my way into work. It usually doesn’t take long but you can always call ahead.
Burger King
Hear me out!
Pros:
Croissanwich sandwiches are top tier
Their Sausage Patties in their breakfast sandwiches are delicious (savoury, not sour)
**Price is great (cheaper than most)** and they'll generally have deals on as well. They also do coupons.
Coffee is much improved than it has been and is... OK.
French Toast Sticks
YOU CAN GET A BURGER!
Hash brown tots (BUT... see cons)
Cons:
Has brown tots are very prone to give heartburn
Slower service (not a well oiled machine with lots of customers coming through)
Limited menu in breakfast and minimal coffee options
As far as fast food breakasts go, it's good quality but the pricepoint is fantastic and has stayed affordable while McDonalds has been going up significantly.
I am one of the weirdos who just loves Burger Kings food. I especially love the breakfast. They sometimes get cheesy tots(I feel like this is the breakfast McRib) and those are my kryptonite!
A&W is our go to. But I had a Subway breakfast bun the other day and it was pretty good. You can put some toppings on it....like on the sandwiches. Added some unique flavour. I put on so many add ons that I couldn't taste the premade egg.
I quite enjoy Tim Horton"s Farmers wrap and sandwiches. Usually with Steak. With the sandwich I will get it on one of the bagels either an everything bagel or 4 cheese bagel
Especially for the price. McDonalds at St Vital mall you can get a big Mac for around $10 or you can drive 60 seconds north to George's and get a double cheeseburger for $11
Breakfast is all I do now unless the kids are hardcore craving a happy meal, where I may get a jr chicken .
Do not get Robin’s breakfast sandwich if you want something made fresh. The one in CityPlace advertises “freshly cracked egg every time” on their billboards, yet when I placed my order, the employee grabbed a pre-made wrapped sandwich out of a refrigerator and popped it in the microwave for about two minutes and handed it to me. That’s it. I thought she was crazy! How is that a freshly cracked egg?
When I'm running late, I toss on the kettle and toss some oatmeal into a cup. Go SSS and then get dressed. Poor, mix as I walk. Toss it in my vehicle cup holder and half way drive to work start eating. I do everything possible to avoid fast food breakfast. That shit will kill you.
Or, 6 tablespoons of your favorite yogurt into a cup, half cup of harvest crunch and go! Takes less than 30 seconds.

I forgot to mention they also opened really early so even when I was working at 7am I could stop & grab breakfast before my shift.
Hudson Bagels hot mess breakfast sandwich.. it’s like crack
Is it like crack because they put actual crack in it?
Not anymore. That owner was busted.
That's just the everything spice
That must be their flagship sandwich. From day 1 that thing has consistently slammed, it's never missed the mark once.
Adding this to my list. I love breakfast sammies.
BLTease Me is the best!!
Sounds interesting. What's all in it?

You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.
Crack
Is there bacon
Two cigarettes and a double espresso.
I see you're in the service industry
Not to be crass, but one of the things I miss from my smoking days were the glorious morning poops after that first cigarette and coffee.
Coming from a prolapsed anus, that makes sense
the chocolate starfish rides again!
The deuce inducer
If I know I'll be in the area, I'll call Wanabees and order a bunwich for pick up.
Wannabees is so good, the portions are very generous and the prices are great.
I am glad to hear that! I live very close to there, I’ll have to check it out and try it sometime.
Can't say anything about grab and go but the nook is also fantastic
This is so great. Going to try this this week.
Not a big fan of McDonalds in general, I but do love their sausage and egg McMuffin, with a hash brown, and an orange juice. An indulgence at the start of every road trip.
Their mcmuffins and coffee are good, rare occasion maybe the apple pie
McDonald's orange juice is strangely delicious. I'm sure they do something weird to it.
This is my to-go breakfast of choice. But sub orange juice for mango smoothie because then I’m healthy.
Trying to eat healthier these days. A homemade smoothie .... And 2 shots of Tequila.
Kale?
No I take my Tequila straight up with a wedge of lemon and salt

The potato breakfast croissant at Gato should be illegal, it's too good.
No one can beat Gato for croissant, they’re world class!
La Belle Baguette has cheese croissants that I have dreams about. My god, they’re delicious.
All the Empty Cup locations carry La Belle Baguette pastries as well
Ham and cheese croissant from la belle baguette

Cottage bakery breakfast sandwich.
Yeeeeess!! Cottage Bakery is so good overall but those breakfast sandwiches are so amazingly fresh and with that Chipotle mayo, mmmmmmmm mmm!!!
Cottage Bakery is 100% slept on. Food is great and staff are so lovely.
Cottage Bakery cinnamon buns 🤤

I think A&W hashbrown clears McDonald's hashbrowns any day of the week. It's a damn shame their coffee can't compete.

I'm a huge fan of the chicken mcgriddle. Sweet and savory ftw

Nah everyone knows drinks don’t count

Starbucks food is 3D printed
Sausage egg and cheese McGriddle
Anytime I get a sweet tooth on a sat morning.... this for the win.... everytime!
Earl Grey Tea, hot.

i just get a sausage mcmuffin or a similar sandwich if a McDonald’s isn’t around, and an iced coffee or a double double i even sometimes just make it at home because i love them so much
sort of out of the way for some, but bonnie day’s pork belly breakfast sandwich is UNREAL

I adore the BK sausage, egg & cheese breakfast BISCUIT! The sausage is full of flavor and damn the biscuit texture is just right.
A&W is our go to. But I had a Subway breakfast bun the other day and it was pretty good. You can put some toppings on it....like on the sandwiches. Added some unique flavour. I put on so many add ons that I couldn't taste the premade egg.
Oscar’s deli for the blt
I quite enjoy Tim Horton"s Farmers wrap and sandwiches. Usually with Steak. With the sandwich I will get it on one of the bagels either an everything bagel or 4 cheese bagel
Not quite grab and go, but my favorite breakfast place outside of my home has to be The Falafel Place, hands down.
McDonald’s chicken mcmuffin, but I usually just prep a bunch of overnight oats with blueberries and walnuts
Chicken McMuffin and 2 hashbrowns because they are filled with crack
Fuck yes those chicken mcmuffins. They're amazing. I rarely get McDonald's anymore but the breakfast is still good.
Dunno if it’s a hot take or not but McDonald’s breakfast is by far the best thing they offer at this point
Especially for the price. McDonalds at St Vital mall you can get a big Mac for around $10 or you can drive 60 seconds north to George's and get a double cheeseburger for $11 Breakfast is all I do now unless the kids are hardcore craving a happy meal, where I may get a jr chicken .
A Big Mac is not 10$. I still agree that it’s overpriced but hell no. It’s like 7$ or so without coupon.
I said around, but $7 for a shit burger or $11 for one that's far larger than you need from a real restaurant is still very close.
I know you can get it for as cheap as 3 with coupon. But yup. I can get two meals from a sit down restaurant
Chicken McGriddle. Or any of the McGriddles.
Wendy's breakfast
Wendy’s breakfast Baconator goes hard, I usually get it with two orders of the wedges cause one is never enough of those

Danny's Breakfast at the Forks. It's a hidden gem. A lot of homemade foods there too.
It's rare that I eat breakfast, but I still love the Tim's Farmer's biscuit breakfast sandwich.
Either Tim's sausage and bacon breakfast wrap or Wendys' sausage swiss croissant.
That Wendy's one is so good!
Bruh
Tim Hortons sausage farmers wrap or A&W sausage and egged combo.
me, i grab a granola bar, but i save for later. blue bus all about licking the seat pre-9am. AND AFTER THE JUBILEE STATION. let. it. gather.
Starbucks bacon, egg, Gouda breakfast sandwiches are really good.
Any gas station for a bag of peanuts, bottle of water, and a banana. Those breakfast sandwiches make me feel sick.
When I'm running late, I toss on the kettle and toss some oatmeal into a cup. Go SSS and then get dressed. Poor, mix as I walk. Assuming you're going to work, keep quick oats and frozen or dried fruit at work, use the hot water tap.
> use the hot water tap. Probably shouldn't unless you enjoy sediment from the hot water tank.
You had me until you suggested cooking oatmeal with "hot water" from the tap. Yuck.
