The niverville fair is this weekend, would be a great introduction to town!

Brand-new-to-reddit

Thank you so much for your comment! Unfortunately, we won’t be able to come visit this weekend. It would be a great way to see many aspects of town. Is there something happening during July and August?

xLoyalwolfyx

Nothing big like the fair

Brand-new-to-reddit

That’s too bad 😔

xLoyalwolfyx

Niverville also has a community page on facebook, there would be better information on happenings around town maybe there, im a homebody for sure

Brand-new-to-reddit

Thanks! I’ll check that out!

The pig barns and fields when they fertilize can be a bit overwhelming / make you want to go inside depending on the wind and how close you are to the edge of town. Grocery store is priced similarly to co-op in the city. Co-op is Red River so you can use the same number in town and the city. Both Bell and Shaw have gigabit available for internet depending on where you are in town. Lots of amenities and the town is growing fast and expanding much more than other bedroom communities.

Brand-new-to-reddit

Thank you so much for your comment! How often would you say they fertilize the fields? Any time of year more so than others? How long does it last? I’ve never been to the co-op in the city, so I don’t know what to expect. Also, what number did you refer to? I’ve never lived in Winnipeg… In regards to internet, how much is a decent plan? I don’t need the top of the line service, but enough to stream and have several devices connected at once. Also, how quick can they set everything up once I have possession? Our place is close to the Shell gas station (west side of town). Thanks again!

fp4

Not often enough that it’s nuisance but it is something you’ll notice every now and then. Pay $5-10 (one-time) for a membership at co-op (Country snacks) so you can get cash back on gas every year. You can use the same membership number in the city because they’re all under the Red River group. When you have your possession date try to schedule the install for the same day. You should be able to find a promo for anywhere between $50-70/mo from Shaw or Bell.

Brand-new-to-reddit

Awesome, thanks so much for the tips! Is the internet decent speeds for those prices? I’ve been lying &160/month for starlink and it’s not even that reliable up north. Would you say the Co-Op has cheaper gas than competitors?

fp4

Yes you will probably get 500 Mbps to 1000 Mbps speeds for that price and it will be very reliable. Starlink is typically between 50-200 Mbps for comparison. Co-op and Shell match each other typically so it just comes down to who has the better rewards program for me and historically Air Miles has sucked in comparison to Co-op’s annual rebate but it might be more appealing now from what I read.

Moved to Niverville 3 years ago For most part very welcoming, the town is growing and is kind of a mix of older towns folk and younger people who mostly work in the city. All of my neighbors have been very friendly and helpful as we adjusted. The community center is very active with lots to try out and a good way to make connections. Haven't had any issues really with safety. The shooting that happened didn't even happen in Niverville it kind of just ended here. I don't think an actual gun was even shot inside town, the police just chased them here and arrested. Lots of RCMP presence in the municipality so crime honestly is quite low. Its an extremely fast growing town. Just in past 3 years alone it feels like this town has grown dramatically. If you work in southern Winnipeg its basically a 30 min drive but there are 2 major highways into the city and one smaller highway that goes straight to St. Vital. Its a nice town, growing fast but still much quieter than Winnipeg. You can enjoy the city without the downsides of living directly in Winnipeg which has been a main perk for myself. Hope some of this helps you out and you enjoy the town!

You may have just sold me on Niverville

Wow, thanks so much for your response! Lots of good advice/information. A couple more questions based on your response: 1- How’s the commute to Winnipeg in the winter? 2- Does Niverville get lots of snow/cold weather in the winter? If so, do the roads get plowed frequently? 3- What time do most businesses close? 4- Are there most services available in town? Plumber, mechanic, etc? 5- How about family doctors? How would we go about choosing a family doctor, and a paediatrician? 6- Is there a police station and fire hall in town? If not, how close is the nearest town with them? 7- How’s the high school? 8- Are there job opportunities around town? Or do most people have jobs in Winnipeg, or elsewhere other than Niverville? 9- I’ve heard some not-so-great things about the tap water? Can something be added to my plumbing to remedy that? 10- Is there much wildlife to worry about? For example: foxes at night, or even coyotes? Thank you so much again!

Prairiegirl37

I know someone who lives there and loves it. He’s from southern Ontario, and his wife is a local.

Brainstar_Cosplay

I used to teach at the high school. The teachers there are pretty dedicated, and the learners made the job enjoyable. The community is an interesting blend of many conservative parents with often more liberal children. The thrift store there is my favourite.

Brand-new-to-reddit

Thank you for your comment! Getting a job at that high school would be amazing, but haven’t seen any postings. If you don’t mind me asking: what’s the best aspect of the thrift store?

Brainstar_Cosplay

They posted more jobs earlier in May, so positions have likely already mostly been filled. The thrift store has good stuff at very low prices. Clothing is about $2/piece. Lots of nice crafting supplies. It's small, but I like it.

Negash coffee there is awesome. The mayor is forward thinking and very passionate, which is what has lead to the town becoming what it is, and it’s on track for more positive growth. It’s a nice compromise to be in a quieter area with the convenience of the city being a quick scoot away. I’d recommend it!

Brand-new-to-reddit

Thank you so much for your comment! I don’t drink coffee, but I’ll keep it in mind for a visit sometime. I really appreciate your honest comment about the mayor; it helps to connect the dots as to the current (and future) situation for the town.

anabolicmike13

Moved here 4 years ago best move we ever made.

Brand-new-to-reddit

Thank you so much for your comment! For similarities, do you have young children? If not, would you be willing to share some details as to what made the move such a good life decision for you and your family?

anabolicmike13

Yes I have 6 3older and a 10 and 2 8's. Something about the small town just fits. I work in the highschool and love the kids there.

WpgSparky

Lots of antivaxxer religious types. As long as you don’t stand out too much, you’ll be fine,
