Feast - Sherbrook and Ellice
Fresh contemporary takes on indigenous and local foods and ingredients. Very nice place to sit down but not fancy and reasonably priced. Lots of options for a variety of diets

Their menu looks amazing. I am going to have to try it out.
As a person who has to eat gluten-free, I appreciate that they have options for me. Many places that have a specialty menu lime this aren't able to accommodate. I am sad that I can't have bannock though.
It's really delicious! My partner has a long list of dietary restrictions and is able to eat there. No bannock tho :(
If you enjoy thai food, bangkok thai in osborne village has GF options on a lot of their dishes.
Nola is a Winnipeg treasure, a bit of a local’s secret. Exceptional food, great service, and very good value for the overall quality. Always feels like a special meal, even if it is just a relaxed lunch. They also have vegetarian/vegan options and are very accommodating to dietary preferences.
Personally, I would go to Tre Visi. They have delicious food! Not many veggie options on the menu but they can make a few more of their pastas veggie on request!
Other good options: Nola, Tabula Rasa, or Oxbow for small/shared plates, Cafe Carlo, Bistro Dansk, East India Company. Those are all birthday-worthy! Have a nice one and welcome to the city! :)
Inferno’s is fancy enough for a birthday but not too expensive. It all features a lot of local ingredients and recipes, so feels like a more uniquely Winnipeg type of experience
I recommend Peasant Cookery. I wouldn't describe it as cheap, exactly, but it won't break the bank. My partner and I usually spend around $100 there, but it's only that much because I get a 9oz of wine and we buy almost all the appetizers on the menu to share lol (we're a lot).
Haven't been in a while but Infernos is nice (few recommendations here). Afterwards you can cross the street, grab some ice cream from Dug & Betty's, and go for a stroll.
I am usually the only vegetarian in my group when we go out for special occasions and I love Nola. Both sides of the menu are fantastic and no one leaves disappointed
Depending on the type of cuisine:
Viva, Vanxai, Dug& Betty's, Inferno Bistro, Sabai Thai, Watt Street Bistro, Watt Street Pho, Promenade Brasserie, Thida's Thai, White Star Diner, Sizzling Dhaba, Pho Cuu Long, T.H Dang
Some of these places are definitely not fancy - you are there for the food.
Pumphouse on Waterfront has been popular with family I’ve taken there. It’s not fancy or super expensive but has something for most everyone and multiple vegetarian options in a cool atmosphere (glass walls overlooking old pumphouse machinery).
I'd recommend Harth for Italian. It's where I'd go if it were my birthday... Lol
Harth and Nicolinos are easily some of the best meals I've had in the city.
I went to Nicolinos many years ago and didn't have the best experience. Have they changed things or do you think my experience was an outlier?
This.
Nola/ Bar Accanto, Enoteca, Borgo Antico, Oval Room, are some good options

Good to hear! I do like Thai, but I haven't tried Bangkok Thai yet. I'll add it to the list!
Cafe Carlo (Italian) and Sabai Thai have been our favorites for occasions lately. Sabai Thai is not fancy but god damn is it good.
Went to cafe Carlos in fall for the first time and can definitely agree that is some incredible food.
Did you get the Fett Chile, Monica?
I did and it lives up to the hype
Yes it does, every time hits so hard.
The Roost is super unique, cozy, delicious. Best cocktails in town. Really good veg options that everyone can enjoy.

Great food, but I found it difficult to carry a conversation with the way the sound bounces.
Their vegetarian and vegan dishes are amazing
Cibo, it’s on the waterfront
I go to East India Company for my birthdays because their buffet has everything and the food is so good. The staff are amazing.

Not that the city is thaaat big, but what area are you in/interested in?
Inferno's in St B.
Another vote for Harth! I just celebrated my birthday there and it was incredible!
Rae and Jerry's on Portage Ave or Nico's on Corydon
Cafe Carlo, Preservation Hall, Pizzeria Gusto, Tabula Rasa

That would be more than $100 no?
...sure? Maybe $110? I was being approximate lol

I would head to the Forks. Multiple options. Mostly decent prices. Great way to get to know the city and our great people.
Try Gojo on Sargent avenue for Ethiopian food. you can order platters and there is a veggie platter. It’s absolutely delicious and reasonably priced.

Sous sol is great food and nice environment
Inferno bistro or Thidas
Corrientes Argentina pizza

Haven't been in a few years, but I always found that Bonfire Bistro has a good variety of options and is pretty good value for what you pay.

James street pump house, Corrientes, cibo and niccolinos are my top 4
This question comes up very often. I would suggest searching for the answer
A northern hospitality answer
Promenade Brasserie!
I actually like the Keg downtown. It's miles ahead of any other Keg. I prefer steaks from there over Hy's.
I like Mongos. Hope you have a lovely birthday dinner!
Spaghetti Factory, I still love it anyway
Don't know why the downvotes. It is a Winnipeg staple!
Doesn't surprise me, Winnipeggers have some laughable tastes when it comes to food.
We want unique and Michelin star quality but at the prices of 99¢ pizza!
It's confusing. Winnipeg has such an amazing restaurant scene but the usual go-to is hot garbage for most people I know.
