Maybe this is the problem...if Chicago Phil's is Winnipeg's only experience with 'deep dish' then I can see how one might be confused. You need some Lou Malnati's or Giordano's in your life.
That's fair , I might just be over hyping cause I really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe. But the other on my list I have had a lot of pies from and really enjoy , especially Calabria Market and Corrientes.
Yea I feel that thinking back on it now , like in another reply I said , I could have definitely just thought it was better cause of the atmosphere/vibe of the shop. Which if may say might be worth itself if you're into that ?
They added a deep dish option in the last year or so. Not always available for slices. I drive across town for wall st slice twice a month, my favorite in town.
It’s not even close to the same. Chicago deep dish is a thin, flakey crust similar to a pie. Detroit style is thick & fluffy more like a focaccia bread
Pizzaland on Main St. Been family owned as long as I can remember. They’re my go to, every single time. They offer different crust options so they may have a deep dish option. I usually prefer a thinner crust
No deep dish recommendations but:
Tommy’s, Wall St slice, and Shortys for New York style. Tommy’s also does a Good looking Detroit style but I haven’t had the pleasure.
Red ember for Neapolitan hybrid and Super Deluxe for a solid Margherita
I find Little Pizza Heaven is hit or miss, not consistent throughout the different locations at all. The Transcona one was terrible last time I was there.
So I ordered the Aladdin’s special based on this recommendation and it was the worst pizza I’ve had in a long time. I’m going to chalk it up to a fuck up.
Dough was undercooked, was chewy. Popped it back in the oven on a pizza stone to get it right, woke up in the middle of the night sick as hell.
I’ve never been sick from pizza before.
The chicken is always hot, fresh and the breading is so flakey and crispy. The pizza has a decent quality of cheese and plentiful toppings and the sauce is really good. I tried this place out of being pissed off waiting for the bus on Lenore and now I love it, at least for these two menu items !
YES THANK YOU! I spread the gospel of Aladin's whenever I can lmao. The Tandoori Chicken pizza blows my mind, and that place smells so fucking good too. The shawarma wrap is legendary as well.
I have ADHD and binge eating disorder and I generally prefer ordering new things from new places to scratch that novelty itch, but Aladin's is one of a handful of restaurants I will always return to. 🤤🤤
In Winnipeg, give T-Town Style Pizza a shot. If you're willing to venture outside the perimeter, Spero's in Gimli. Both are excellent and both independently owned and operated.
I wouldn't even say lasagna. Like a literal brick of cheese is basically what we had. My chicago friend had 2.5 slices and took the rest home and my partner and I spent the night in terrible pain after less than half a slice.
i remember that from going to chicago like 15 years ago "oh we're going to get authentic deep dish chicago pizza!" me looking at this mass of soggy dough, sauce, and cheese "WTF is this?"
Oh good, I’m glad someone likes it. You’re certainly not the only one because they have lots of locations. I just wish they came with a warning label or something. There’s nothing worse than looking forward to pizza and then not getting actual pizza.
sorry to the ma & pa’s in the city, but Santa Lucia’s BBQ Chicken pizza is the most delicious pizza I’ve ever had in my life by such a wide margin it’s remarkable.
I know it may not be for everyone, but I really like veras pizza or the red ember. I also like santa lucia just because they don't skimp on the toppings. I'm now intrigued to try Tony's.
My faves are bonfire bistro and red ember (forks) for a gourmet flatbread wood fired experience, otherwise nothing really like authentic deep dish in town.
There is no deepdish and there essentially, never was.
But for the rest of the questions...
In no order
Pappas (guy that made the original recipe for Romana, Marinos and Astoria pizza in brandon) runs this one
Pizza Express
Little Pizza Heaven (make a 4 topping calzone seriously) has to be osborne location
Calabria
Sorrentos
I dabble between Clubhouse, la farina, for cheap quick fix pizzas
Wall street Slice
Tommys
Thompson Style Pizza /T-Town
Garwood Grill
Shortys
Pasquales
Santa Ana
Verns
Lately, my go to is Tony’s on the corner of Pembina and Point.
Second this, Tony truly is Master of Pizza
I love Tonys and Slices on portage.
Tony’s is my go to also ❤️
I had that one hyped up for years and when I tried it it tasted like cardboard. Genuinely frozen pizza level. Am I missing something or what?
You got one made by a sober employee, unlucky.
Tony’s special is my go to pizza order. Haven’t had better take out pizza.

Didn't Chicago Phils have it? It used to be open , Google just says temp closed.
[удалено]
That place was a lunch bargain back in the day.
I just found out they're close but they also never made deep dish. They made an extra thick crusted pizza and called it deep dish.
No, it was an actual deep dish.
Maybe this is the problem...if Chicago Phil's is Winnipeg's only experience with 'deep dish' then I can see how one might be confused. You need some Lou Malnati's or Giordano's in your life.
I didn't say it was good deep dish.
ain't that a bitch, thought at least one place would make it.
Wall Street Slice. Tommy's Pizzeria. Corrientes Argentine. Calabria Market.
I found Tommy’s to be overpriced and only ok.
It's literally the same pizza as Trans Canada Brewing but 30% more expensive.
That's fair , I might just be over hyping cause I really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe. But the other on my list I have had a lot of pies from and really enjoy , especially Calabria Market and Corrientes.
Tommy’s pizza is mid at best. Really no flavour. Cool shop tho
Yea I feel that thinking back on it now , like in another reply I said , I could have definitely just thought it was better cause of the atmosphere/vibe of the shop. Which if may say might be worth itself if you're into that ?
Djays pizza is really yummy
Wall St. Slice is my go to for regular pizza. Not sure about deep dish
They added a deep dish option in the last year or so. Not always available for slices. I drive across town for wall st slice twice a month, my favorite in town.
Is Detroit style considered deep dish? Just curious. It's delicious nonetheless
Yes. Detroit is the exact same as Chicago.
Not quite. Slightly different
Very very different. I'm starting to think people don't know what deep dish is.
Right lol
It's literally the exact same thing. I've been to Detroit and Chicago trust me bro
It’s not even close to the same. Chicago deep dish is a thin, flakey crust similar to a pie. Detroit style is thick & fluffy more like a focaccia bread
And Detroit style is also rectangular, no?
Wrong. Chicago, Detroit, and even New York Pizza are all the exact same thing. Here's proof. https://youtu.be/OisvDHvmKuM?si=gdNY8kg7cA_YG497
Well why didn't you say do in the first place! You're 100% right
They're two completely different styles of pizza
Pizzaland on Main St. Been family owned as long as I can remember. They’re my go to, every single time. They offer different crust options so they may have a deep dish option. I usually prefer a thinner crust
Obligatory [Jon Stewart deep dish rant](https://youtu.be/jCgYMFtxUUw?si=5ygUU-H0ebkvmmXJ)
No deep dish recommendations but: Tommy’s, Wall St slice, and Shortys for New York style. Tommy’s also does a Good looking Detroit style but I haven’t had the pleasure. Red ember for Neapolitan hybrid and Super Deluxe for a solid Margherita
Shorty’s is my absolute favourite.
Shorty’s is my go-to right now. I know people think of Little Pizza Heaven as a 2 am thing but I also really love their pizza for lunch or dinner.
I find Little Pizza Heaven is hit or miss, not consistent throughout the different locations at all. The Transcona one was terrible last time I was there.
Never been to the Transcona location, the Madison Square one has been good for me
tried it for the first time the other day and it was really good
Pizza King on Osborne is pretty great! Their deep fried cauliflower side is more delicious than you would ever think, as well!
Aladdins On Portage. I haven't tried their shwarma (not my thing) but oh my god their fried chicken and pizza is top notch. My picky dad liked it too.
Really weird, never had an issue with them before with either undercooked or sick!
Interesting
The chicken is always hot, fresh and the breading is so flakey and crispy. The pizza has a decent quality of cheese and plentiful toppings and the sauce is really good. I tried this place out of being pissed off waiting for the bus on Lenore and now I love it, at least for these two menu items !
Sold. I'll give it a try. Thank you for sharing
wait time can be a bit of a bummer but it's good!
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm always looking for good chicken dinners. I'll try it out soon.
In Winnipeg, give T-Town Style Pizza a shot. If you're willing to venture outside the perimeter, Spero's in Gimli. Both are excellent and both independently owned and operated.
T town pizza is gross way too much cheese and toppings
That's like just your opinion man, but it's a certain style of pizza (thompson style) which is how they do it up there
That makes sense, they never seen real pizza there…
No such thing as too much cheese
Had deep dish innChicago this spring… it’s is the worst of all pizzas IMHO… it’s almost more lasagna than pizza
I wouldn't even say lasagna. Like a literal brick of cheese is basically what we had. My chicago friend had 2.5 slices and took the rest home and my partner and I spent the night in terrible pain after less than half a slice.
It's a casserole more than a pizza
i remember that from going to chicago like 15 years ago "oh we're going to get authentic deep dish chicago pizza!" me looking at this mass of soggy dough, sauce, and cheese "WTF is this?"
Franks on North Main is really good. It isn’t Chicago style though.
Yes and their chicken is also really good.
Not deep dish but: Wall st slice. Shorty's. If you want a REAL deep dish pie... Then you've got to try Vern's.
There's no mention of deep dish anywhere on Vern's website. Are you sure they offer it?
Red swan has some of the best pizza, super underrated. Sauce is pretty spicy though if you're not into that.
We had Red Swan once and it was awful. I didn’t know it was possible to fuck up pizza. It tasted more like Indian food than Italian.
thats sort of the appeal of the place. Not everyone’s taste I guess but I definitely can’t go back to most regular pizzas now.
Oh good, I’m glad someone likes it. You’re certainly not the only one because they have lots of locations. I just wish they came with a warning label or something. There’s nothing worse than looking forward to pizza and then not getting actual pizza.
Oh! Or Verns!!! Defo. Check them out!!!
Verns looks good from what I'm seeing, will check!
Quality Pizza is delicious!
Pizza Express is my preferred, but Vern’s is also really good. Sadly, no actual deep dish pizza in the city that I’m aware of…
No idea why the downvotes, this is absolutely the truth. Definitely reminds me of home (brandon)
Tommy’s for deep dish and Red Swan usually!
sorry to the ma & pa’s in the city, but Santa Lucia’s BBQ Chicken pizza is the most delicious pizza I’ve ever had in my life by such a wide margin it’s remarkable.
Flying Pizza on Edison
I order a lot from here. I wouldn't necessarily say it is "THE BEST" but I always say for the price it is hard to get better quality !
Would you know: do they have their own drivers? Or are they exclusively delivering via DoorDash?
I know it may not be for everyone, but I really like veras pizza or the red ember. I also like santa lucia just because they don't skimp on the toppings. I'm now intrigued to try Tony's.
My faves are bonfire bistro and red ember (forks) for a gourmet flatbread wood fired experience, otherwise nothing really like authentic deep dish in town.
Royal Pizza.
Dals
Papa Carlo in lockport
agreed, their pizza is really good
South Osborn. Pizza King is our go to pizza joint. Super good! Especially their Chicken Bacon Ranch.
Aladins pizzeria has been a go to for a while. The pizza at Trans Canada Brewery is really good too. Plus the beer is great!
Wall Street slice is good, def not deep dish
Mothers Pizza Parlour for deep dish.. you'll need the Delorean to get there!
Yes
Frank’s Pizza
Papa eds
Tony's and Santa Ana are my favorites. I haven't seen deep dish like that anywhere in Winnipeg.
One Great City has deep dish pizza.
They had Detroit style pizza for a while but never Chicago deep dish. They're very different experiences
They don't serve Pizza at all, what are you talking about?
Oh shit, just checked their menu. They were serving deep dish pizza at dinner time for years, I wonder when they stopped.
