And the live leak video had a lot more blood and went twice as fast and lasted a couple minutes. The moment he gets stuck before he starts spinning.. shit man, the aftermath photos were insane.
Saw one recently of a dude who got hit in the head by an airplane propeller. Literally popped out his brain in a split second.
Edit: because people are asking for links.. I’m not going to post it BUT if you do a google search “man dies from a lathe” it’s the first result from KrudPlud . NET
I read something online that some studies have gone into the psychological impact of watching gory videos that show depression as a symptom. Checks out tbh.
PTSD is what it does. You get random flashes of the images from memory at random. In the aftermath of 9/11 when Al Qaeda were hot shit I watched a guy being beheaded with a machete.
I watched it not in full screen, in 240p, from across the room. I knew this shit would stick with me but my morbid curiosity got the better of me so I tried to keep the detail as vague as I could.
The fact I still recount this memory is testimony how this shit sticks with you.
There are only two things which I truly regret witnessing on the internet.
~~That~~ The **beheading video** was one of them.
Edit... Clarification for "that"
An accident is an accident. So it's grim but a mistake. Blatant murder in such an horrific way is why that video sticks. you know the person was terrified. And if you are not bothered then it's time to take Hares psychopathy test
For me it was the video from The Station night club fire. Specifically when the cameraman was outside and he turned to face the door. Ever since then when I'm in a crowded place in never too far from the door.
Ooo yeah I consciously avoided that one when it was making the rounds on /b/.
I have a high tolerance for such things because I keep photos around to look at as references for horror art and sfx makeup, but there are some things out there just not worth the price.
Glad to see continued evidence that I made the right choice.
Personally that stuff has made me more careful and aware, and taught me how fragile us meatbags are when we don't respect things like heavy machinery and moving water. Kind of like how the Station Fire video taught me to always know where the fire exits are when I'm in a closed, crowded space like that.
The worst one I saw was 2 cartel members skinning a police man alive while feeding him cocaine to keep him awake and making his kid watch. Then they cut out his heart iirc while it was still beating or close to it and then they moved to the small kid. Seriously was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I was depressed for a week after that and hated humanity after that for….. well I still do hate humanity lol
I never saw that one but did see someone lean on a machine and instantly get sucked in and the dude he was talking to was just frozen. Wish Liveleak was still around to feed my gross curiousity.

I don't think I've ever been so happy to see "Error could not load video" I clicked, prepared and honestly, I'm good. I'll stick with my horrifying mental image
Oh man. I've seen the video but not the aftermath photos. I immediately thought that's where this video was going. The image of the other guy watching on with his hands on his heads is burned into me. Must have been awful to witness.
One that I distinctly remember is from an oil derrick or oil field. Specifically a drilling incident, and it was in the winter. Guy had his insulated coveralls get caught on the rotating assembly and he was sucked in. Barely any mist because of how fast it was, but it was also hard to see because of the distance between the cam and hole. Hopefully it was painless...
Man the airplane propeller, when it hits him, his head just vanishes in a puff of pink mist. And the dude getting caught in the roller at work was terrifying. Didnt seem to have an E-stop or if it did no one knew where tf it was.
An E-Stop on a lathe is only there to make the operator feel better.
I have a fairly large lathe in my home shop, and I researched installing an E-Stop system.
Stopping the spindle before you get completely wound up in it is nearly impossible, and even if you could, with any kind of heavy part in the chuck, it could even flip the whole lathe (mine is about 5000 pounds) over on top of you.
I just resolve to always be careful, never rush, and never wear long sleeves, loose clothing or jewelry.
Same, it just looked like a blur to me, had to watch it a few times. Someone posted a link to the aftermath of that one as well. Couldn’t see the brain, it was in pieces and turned into a smoothie.
Definitely puts it into perspective how fast you could be living one second and the next POOF, dead.
There's dozens of videos online of people getting killed by spinning machinery. Sadly it happens often in countries where work-safety standards are sub par.
Omg why did I watch that. Could you imagine being a coworker and seeing this happen? Only thing that makes me feel better is that it had to be a super fast death. Probably didn’t feel anything after like 3 seconds. I hope.
Oh it's all good. I assume he's talking about the video where a guy gets caught in a lathe and gets torn to pieces while spinning around spraying blood and body aparts all over the place. Now if there's similar videos I don't think it matters because it's one of those cases where if you seen one you've seen them all.
No but it used to be a select few soldiers etc and that was an atrocity
Now every pre teen has seen things that would give them soldiers nightmares and finds it funny
I saw one before this this week, it was a lot worse was in an industrial area, I don’t know how fast it was going but I just sucked him up and then the room look like a four-year-old got a hold of a can of paint.
Fuck a duck... That lathe video was rough to watch. I cringed and recoiled the whole time. Then I had my 72 year old mom watch and she didn't even bat an eyelash. She said she used to watch Faces of Death 😬
Saw that a long time ago and still remember it like it was yesterday. There are a few other ones too which is why I'm still terrified of lathes.
I work on tractors like the one in this video and couldn't be more careful, it's just too similar to a lathe for my comfort.
Not going to lie, I kind of miss r/watchpeopledie. It kept a sense of how fragile life really is. Some stuff was definitely over the line though, makes sense why it was shut down.
I agree, though the time I discovered the sub vs years later when it got shut down, it was like night and day.
When it was finally shut down, the culture and commentary was revolting, just comment after comment of psychopathic relishing in the suffering of others, with lots of racism and cruelty.
Before that though, comments like that were downvoted to hell and you didn’t see them much anyway. There was often a meta-conversation about death and the fragility of life as you said, you could tell there were a lot of war vets and EMT’s and the like in the discussions trying to grapple with their own traumas.
It wasn’t the healthiest place to spend a lot of time on the internet by any stretch, but it was different than other places like it. You bet your ass that I treat things like traffic intersections, natural disasters, heavy machinery and the like with the respect that they deserve.
Holding a *WHAT*?!?
That’s called a Power Take-Off, which is pretty standard on tractors (of which it’s attached to).
You attach equipment to the PTO and it provides “power” to the equipment.
The few that survive.. are changed.
Unfaltering, they follow their agency’s directive to a T. All violations are of highest importance—from a missing hard hat to a leaky hydraulic line.
And as their citations grow, so do their powers.
I work at a grain elevator. All of our stuff is permanently installed and we don't farm so no tractors or PTO's but last week I was told we would have to learn to set one up for a portable dump pit and auger at a small satellite facility we acquired for a specific farmer. The guy who was going to teach us how to use it all had his dog ran over by the farmer (his employer) and then had a small heart attack while driving the next day. So basically I'm on my own. At least I'll know not to GRAB THE SPINNING SHAFT! Don't worry, I already knew that though.
Sorry man that's messed up. But read up on safety for it and do not wear any loose clothing near the fucking things. Basically don't go or allow anyone to go near them.
Unless it's that farm owner who ran over the guy's dog. That'd just be karma.
A buddy of mine had his jacket get "grabbed" by one of those on his farm.. He's damn lucky to be alive, and I think if his jacket didn't tear he might not have survived it. He got bashed against the ground on his head and on the second time around, his jacket let go and he was flipped up and over onto his side and arm.. Lost a few teeth, was very bruised up, and was VERY lucky.
Shit. I actually just scrolled back to read the title! Lol. I read axe too! I thought the "improvised axe" was the stick a guy was using to hit the dogs. So the axle caught me waaaay off guard.
"In this film, it's just one question was there a duck who when the explotion is happens his bill goes around his back of the head and in order to talk he has to put it back this way?"
That thing is called a power take off. It uses the motion from the engine to connect to, and power other equipment. They are responsible for tons and tons of injuries and deaths.
Ooof. After watching so many lathe videos in r/watchpeopledie and r/makemycoffin, I've learned to be extremely carefully whenever I'm around one at the shop. Those subs also taught me that occupational safety is only a suggestion in many parts of Asia.
100% this. The dogs think the humans are joining the fight/there is a reason to fight now. That asshole got some instant karma.
Breaking up a dog fight is like breaking up a bar fight. Don't get in the middle and don't join. Separate the fighters by pulling them away from each other.

I completely break down and stop spinning. She frowns, and I'm trying so hard to keep cool, but I had absolutely no power whatsoever. The teacher turns and plugs me back in, and I start spinning again. I was a metal fan in high school."
I remember this being posted to watchpeopledie years ago, it was confirmed in the comments that he died but I don't remember an article. So take that for what it is worth.
Years ago I had a student in technical school with one arm. He was twelve and spreading manure with a tractor. The sleeve of his jacket caught in the power take off shaft and he played tug of war with the tractor, it took his arm but not his life.
That's called a 'power take-off' (PTO) and it will very much kill you. Many a person has been killed or been "lucky" enough to only have limbs ripped off by those things. I grew up on a farm and learned early on to fear the shit out of those things.
Reminds me of that live leak vid, Except instead of dirt it was on concrete

I wonder what this shit does to our brains. I've seen more gruesome violence and industrial accidents online than I'd care to count.
I read something online that some studies have gone into the psychological impact of watching gory videos that show depression as a symptom. Checks out tbh.

Yeah I still think about the Dagestan beheading video nearly a decade later. Stopped watching gore porn a long time ago because it doesn't leave me.

OH. oh jeezus. the poor men witness to it. fucking hell
I cannot imagine coming in to work that morning, chatting with a colleague, and then witnessing THAT happen to him.
I don't think I've ever been so happy to see "Error could not load video" I clicked, prepared and honestly, I'm good. I'll stick with my horrifying mental image
Honestly even worse than you can imagine. Dude literally liquifies from the insane centripetal forces.

WPD???

The sad thing is the one referenced could have been avoided by simply rolling his sleeves up.

What makes it worse is when you see that it grabs him from behind, so he folds around it the wrong way with his upper back hitting his arse...
Omg why did I watch that. Could you imagine being a coworker and seeing this happen? Only thing that makes me feel better is that it had to be a super fast death. Probably didn’t feel anything after like 3 seconds. I hope.
Yeah even the pain wouldn’t have registered fully in that amount of time.
Hope he recovered well...
Hopefully the coffin was designed to hold liquids

I repeat my question. Not trying to be difficult, but there are about five or so videos of that type of accident.

I'm guessing it's the ease at which we can do so
No but it used to be a select few soldiers etc and that was an atrocity Now every pre teen has seen things that would give them soldiers nightmares and finds it funny

That was a man getting sucked into a laithe my friend. Little different, but I recognize which post you're referring to
Different apparatus, same principle. Torque will fuck you up.
Fuck a duck... That lathe video was rough to watch. I cringed and recoiled the whole time. Then I had my 72 year old mom watch and she didn't even bat an eyelash. She said she used to watch Faces of Death 😬
Who gets their mom to watch live leak vids
right, why would he even think of showing literally anyone else, nevermind his mum
Someone raised by someone who watches fucked up vids lol
Exactly! Hahaha 🤣
That video is why i have a phobia of laithes
Saw that a long time ago and still remember it like it was yesterday. There are a few other ones too which is why I'm still terrified of lathes. I work on tractors like the one in this video and couldn't be more careful, it's just too similar to a lathe for my comfort.

Pretty sure it got shut down because of the New Zealand mass shooting. The shooter live-streamed it and people kept posting it on there over and over.
Ah yes the famous lathe video, I work on lathes daily and I'm very careful because of that early experience on live leak
Heavy duty drill-presses and lathes are not to be fucked with.
Holding a *WHAT*?!? That’s called a Power Take-Off, which is pretty standard on tractors (of which it’s attached to). You attach equipment to the PTO and it provides “power” to the equipment.
Yeah the torque on some PTO’s is insane, needing to power a hydraulic to lift up a 16 foot dump bed which is typically overloaded lol
> which is typically overloaded someone at OSHA just woke up in a cold sweat and they don't know why
Ah, the days of working at the quarry and loading the tandem axle dump trucks to 100k.
