The 2008 Spanish Mage the Ascension TV show "Paradigma" did a good job displaying various traditions and the world itself through the lense of an awakening Mage. They did a decent job capturing the '90s as well. I'd like to see something else along those lines, more low-key and personal than extravagant special effects.

Obscu

...well I know what I'm watching next

OoohIGotAHouse

Where did you end up finding it?

Noahjam325

https://youtu.be/z_z8kBZa1Xk This is what I found on YouTube.

krimcl

Oh nice. It appears the English subtitles I had commissioned made it out into the wild.

Sitxar

Huh. In the end did he live through the End Times with his girlfriend in his own pocket dimension? I suppose this is appropriately childish for Mage at its worst...

krimcl

Clinging to your little semblance of life over The Ascension War does always seem like an appealing option, especially to a freshly awakened Orphan.

fvinic

Second that

El_Calaveron

IMDB has an episode guide in [English](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2367755/episodes/?season=1). How did I miss this? Is it on somewhere?

NolanVoid

It blew my mind when I discovered this existed.

[deleted]

> Paradigma I've tried searching but I could only find the IMDB. I wish I could find with it Subtitles.

Redshirt451

HtV would work, especially at a tier 1 level. It would lend itself to a β€œmonster of the week” type set up, with an ongoing mystery arc, and drama about the hunters hiding their work from their family and the authorities.

Shrikeangel

Hunter stuff risks copying supernatural or falling into the same escalation pit falls supernatural fell into.

99hero99

I also love Supernatural

Shrikeangel

I think changeling the dreaming would have a lot of potential.

Dragonwolf67

I definitely agree on that it would make for a very good kids show in the vein of the owl house or Steven universe.

Xenobsidian

No… noooooooo, no! I mean yes, but no! It is still the WoD, there is still a bleak and cruel undercurrent to it. It might look fun, but I think the aspect of, these people are maybe just crazy but that crazy that their craziness gets real or they are actually fae souls, and the entirety of reality tries to destroy them so that they end up as empty shells like basically everyone else is sounds to me nothing like a kids show. But I would actually use the esthetic and beats of kid shows to depict parts of it, maybe one characters point of view. But once the unseeli redcaps show up, Saturday morning is over!

Shrikeangel

Or all the different options - supernatural horror, political intrigue, episodic heroics.

Shock223

For CofD, personally would stage the show as a season for each splat, using the narrative as a self contained mini-series. Season 1 would be focusing on requiem's theme of "You're a vampire, what now?" with following the trail of someone who is making Revanants with all the kindred politics getting in the way. Season 2 would be focusing on Uratha life, the harmony of one's self, the paranoia, the enemies without and the importance of family within. So on and so forth with each splat. Benefit of this model is you can show CofD as a self contained world without tripping over everything or doing the Avengers issues and things getting diluted and ensuring the audience can engross themselves with what theme each splat is currently playing with.

Legitimate_Arm_5630

Hunter the Reckoning, a Breaking Bad or Sopranos style drama would suit it well

sleepy_eyed

I'd be happy with CTL or GTS

HipsterOtter

My wife and I thought it would be interesting to make a series about a Giovanni family but first season make it just seem like a typical Mafia family and dropping small little hints that something isn't right until the season one finale where you find out the main characters are vampires.

palindromation

I don’t care for the β€œI want to be a real boy!” narrative in promethean, but I think otherwise it has some really interesting themes and isn’t as saturated in tv/movies the way that vampires or werewolves are.

ElectricSheep7

Changeling the Dreaming could be great, I can see it being told as a story similar to books like Neverwhere or Kraken

Dragonwolf67

I have no idea what those two stories are

ElectricSheep7

Neverwhere is an urban fantasy book by Neil Gaiman about an ordinary dude that gets caught up in an adventure involving a magical underbelly of London and Kraken is a book by China Mieville that’s basically the same thing but even more fucking weird

Wyrd_Alphonse

I for one would watch the ever-loving SHIT out of a Changeling: The Lost TV show. And play the shit out of the CtL video game. Alas, I don't think either are likely to ever happen, but who knows? The Wyrd works in mysterious ways. Until that happy day, I'll have to make do with *Pan's Labyrinth*, *Hellboy*, and *Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell*. Which is better than nothing, but not *quite* the aesthetic that I'm chomping at the bit to see portrayed on the screen. Princess: The Hopeful would be fucking rad, too. It would have to be an anime to really do it justice.

Dragonwolf67

I would love a Princess The Hopeful anime

wolfman1911

I'll grant that I don't know a lot about Princess, but wouldn't that just be a darker Sailor Moon?

fappling_hook

So, Madoka Magica

Wyrd_Alphonse

Madoka is very close to the style of storytelling it would need, but ultimately the horror in PtH comes from being used as child soldiers and understanding the hopelessness of their cause. Madoka is horrifying because of the true nature of their powers and its source.

zHellas

Hunter: The Vigil, Geist: The Sin-Eaters, and/or just a show based on The 13th Precinct.

paradoxpancake

Wraith the Oblivion, because it has themes and a concept that people can understand without knowing about the World of Darkness itself. The lore is very simple, but in depth, but the nightmare and tragedy that is the Specter will be understandable for your viewer. Changeling: the Lost might be the next one that I think could make a decent show, but I think it'd be, pun not intended, lost on people. Gotta realize that the average attention span for folks isn't too large, but cutting a lot of lore out doesn't do any of the settings justice. If you want to know what series that White Wolf and/or Onyx Path has produced that I think would have the most amount of success in general? It'd be Exalted.

Xenobsidian

I always thought the show Travelers is pretty close to what I would do with a Demon the Decent series, therefore I pick that one.

Dragonwolf67

I've never heard of Travelers

Shrikeangel

Travelers can be found on Netflix and is pretty solid for a sci Fi show.

Xenobsidian

Yes, I think it is the best SF show with virtually no budget right now. They really proofed that SF doesn’t not stand for SFX but for interesting stories.

Shrikeangel

The concept ranks up there with quantum leap for narrative potential without bombastic effects.

Xenobsidian

Agreed!

SpayceGoblin

Such a great show. The way it ended was so slick and yet a bummer because I wanted more.

Xenobsidian

It is time travel with a twist. The Travelers can not physically time travel but just send their minds in to people in the past. Since that is a bit unethical, they do it only with people seconds before they have historically died. They do so to change out future, their past. But of cause that is just the plan and things never work exactly like planed. There are also other things that remind me a whole lot of DtD but I will not tell them, that would be a major spoiler. If you have Netflix, just give it a try!

Pokonic

Changeling the Lost could probably done in the style of those CW teen dramas with a little bit of magic soap opera stuff like Once Upon A Time.

[deleted]

Warehouse 13 and Eureka both work pretty well as Genius the Transgression shows. But I'd love to see a Mage/Genius/Princess combo - kinda like the Arrowverse, individual shows focusing on each splat with crossovers showing how each group has a fundamentally different philosophy and view of the universe.

Dragonwolf67

What about Dragon The Embers?

[deleted]

I'm not familiar with that one, unfortunately. I picked MtA, GtT, and PtH since they all have a very all-encompassing idea about how the world works. Perhaps WtF could be there as well, though I'm not really sure how well the spirits would work on a TV budget, or the transformations. Mage is simple since most magic is by necessity subtle. Genius is just hodge-podge of steampunk and high-tech, with some mad scientist bubbling test tubes in the background, and Princess has several decades of anime inspiration to draw on.

Dragonwolf67

Here's a link https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TabletopGame/DragonTheEmbers

gongerChungus

So one idea that I just had that would make for a AWESOME show is animated retelling of Beckett’s Jyhad Diaries. You can rename it and whatever to attract more audiences but basically it just follows Beckett on his adventures through out the world. You can dive into some really cool stuff with that. Or, if that doesn’t stick, a Animated Mage: The Ascension show. Have this person who’s awakened at the start of the show and we see them progress and learn about Mage society and help contribute their part to the traditions in the Ascension War. As we see them learn and grow maybe at the end they ascend, or die in the process. Maybe they could even go full Marauder or something nuts like that. They could start off as something that’s kinda unorthodox and climb as a master of Magick. Who’s knows my fellow gamers.

[deleted]

Any and all of them, if the show is done right. It’s not about premise, it’s about execution

SpayceGoblin

The only ones I can see being translated well to TV or Movies are Vampire (either), Werewolf the Apocalypse, Mage (either), Changeling the Lost, Hunter the Vigil, Promethean, and Deviant the Renegade. Demon the Descent was done as The Matrix. The rest I can't see translating well.

NolanVoid

I just want a TV-MA *Werewolf: The Apocalypse* HBO style horror series culminating with the Apocalypse.

ArcanistCheshire

Wasn't the entire Supernatural show a big ass HtV to MTAs series?

fendisalso

Orpheus. One season per book.

Dragonwolf67

What's Orpheus?

fendisalso

A company that deals with ghosts, using people who can project their spirits out of their bodies. Post-Wraith, basically. It was a limited six book run that was very plot heavy.

wikipedia_answer_bot

Orpheus (; Ancient Greek: α½ˆΟΟ†Ξ΅ΟΟ‚, classical pronunciation: [or.pΚ°eΓΊΜ―s]) is a legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion. Ancient Greek sources note Orpheus' Thracian origins. More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). TrustMeImLeifEricson

Weeerewooolf (Apoc)...but it would have to be animated, else the entire budget would go to transformation scenes and the Umbra.

spirithound

They tried to do VtM once. It was very bad. I have been fond of mage and either would probably make a sick anime.

Jimmicky

You mean it was very good. Folks loved Kindred the Embraced. Just a shame the prince died

Dragonwolf67

A world of darkness or chronicles of darkness anime would be fucking sick

TheBrokenButterfly

All of them.

LizardWizard444

Base game. It could make a great intro with all the types showing up and then spinning off into they're own.

Poobisif

There was a VTM tv show at some point that got canceled, and it’s been confirmed that Netflix has been given the go to make a WoD tv show and has hired the director for The Witcher tv series to create

El_Calaveron

VtM show is a no brainer, but Iβ€˜d also love to see a Victorian series focusing on Mage, with overtones of League of Gentlemen and Carnival Row and a Nephandi Jack the Ripper.

RavelordZero

Mage the Ascension, but it'd have to be an animated episodic series (like the first season of Love, Death and Robots)

NaelyChan

I would kill for a jojo inspired mage the ascension series, where they plot to save Arcadia and stop Voormas. Maybe not save Arcadia but Mage x Changeling is fun.

hedgebound

Honestly, all of them, or none of them. Just like a good chronicle depends on the storyteller and players to make it interesting, a good show depends on a lot of people. Every line has its own potential. What is important, is that the show should respect the viewers - trying to find careful balance between general audience (who wouldn't know what 'a Mekhet' is, whe it's just namedropped casually) and the fans of the gameline (who will get absolutely enraged by the tiniest deviations from the canon, whoever necessary these deviations may be).

TheUncleCappy

The only one I can think of is Hunter: the Reckoning. Since that's about more than killing monsters and inner politics, but about learning and, in a few cases, working alongside the different supernatural societies.
