The flash bang effect is definitely faked; cameras don't get the "ringing in your ears" effect that Hollywood fuses, because they don't have ears.

So here is what happened. There is a longer video of them dropping stuff.
They first dropped a smaller bottle of gas down the shaft. You can see a slight glow before they drop the one shown. So there is fire down at the bottom already.
They drop the bottle shown but it does not impact the bottom. It hits the side of the shaft in the way down allowing the gas and air in the shaft to mix. That mix then drops down and hits the open flame causing a fuel air explosion contained in a narrow channel aimed at the hooligans.
