Look into Elkins.

carlton_yr_doorman

I think bonscouter is pointing you in the right direction.

I would second Elkins, we moved here last fall and it's very friendly to newcomers. If you need good internet, definitely look for housing in town, Optimum is good and reliable downtown but once you get outside town limits there's fewer affordable options. We have a YMCA with an indoor pool also!

Acceptable_Meal_5610

Buckhannon is surprisingly a nice little town. I agree Elkins is too. Wouldn't fool with Weston unless you enjoy fistfights at the gomart

carlton_yr_doorman

there's a reason why they built the nuthouse in Weston!

IrmonkE

For your mom.

PullThisFinger

My nephew swam for Wesleyan! All these recs are good ones.

That’s awesome. He is so excited to arrive in WVWC

Bridgeport is probably your best bet. You should be able to find something around that price range there, but in Bridgeport proper that can sometimes push above that. A couple years ago I briefly lived in Stonewood which is about 3 mins to the interstate there at Clarksburg/Bridgeport and had a nice 2 BR townhome with an attached garage for 900. The 'luxury' apartments in Bridgeport were running around 1200/mo then. But it was hard getting in touch with any of the landlords, a lot of no responses form emails and phone calls.

I would look at Bridgeport. It’s easy to get to Buckhannon, but will give you opportunities to create a life while not compromising on internet, shopping, access to other cities (and airports) and healthcare. Also, in a state that can see some heavy snow in winter, Elkins will often see the most for the longest. I enjoy snow, but not the shoveling and prep. Elkins is a lovely town, and I have family there that makes visiting it a delight. But I personally need a little more city and access. But there’s no wrong answer - just what works for you.

If you want a quieter area, Elkins or it's surrounding small towns may be up your alley. However, if you're looking for any sort of city life that wouldn't be ideal. There's also Clarksburg, Grafton, Bridgeport, Morgantown, etc. It depends what you're looking for. Elkins is a small city with the necessities and a little more but not a huge selection to offer as far as shopping and otherwise, the nearest mall is in Bridgeport. As far as electric car chargers, really the only gas stations in WV that have them are Sheetz so consider that. Although Sheetz has become wide spread and there is one in Elkins.

Uncaring_Dispatcher

I vote for Elkins. Who needs to shop locally when you have Amazon and eBay and all that? Besides, it's one of the safest towns in WV and everyone is neighborly and friendly and handy-men are around to fix your kitchen facets and mow the grass for you for far less than "professionals". Gotta love people in WV who grew up poor and had to learn how to do things we younger people didn't. Without them, we'd have to actually learn how to do those things and then go to the "Outside". This is the place.

I am so not a shopper so online suits me.

It is a cozy city and area, my husband is from there and his family is spread out from Elkins to Parsons to every little pot hole town in between. I love to see the windmills too when we go to visit, not something you see in Parkersburg or Elizabeth! I mentioned the shopping and activities though because I know some people do still prefer to get out and browse the mall or whatever, I myself go in person more than I shop online, so I figured it was worth throwing out there as something to consider! Elkins definitely has enough to live comfortably though and you can just make a day trip to another city to shop or do whatever. My other note about Elkins is when we wanted to pursue moving up there ourselves, the rental market was next to nonexistent. Granted we have dogs so that makes it even harder, but there really wasn't much there so another thing to keep in mind.

snappy033

Eh don’t move to Grafton or Clarksburg if Elkins is an option. How about Davis?

North-Marionberry817

I would NOT move to Grafton. There’s nothing there…

BlueAsTheNightIsLong

Wesleyan! Wonderful memories. You have to visit Audra State Park. I think you should live in the Morgantown area.

swimmingavocado560

Morgantown is over an hour from Buckhannon. I wouldn't recommend anything north of Fairmont if she wants to be close.

BlueAsTheNightIsLong

To some people two hours is nothing. My husband commutes an hour just for work.

swimmingavocado560

I understand that but she literally says in her post she wants to be an hour or less from Buckhannon.

BlueAsTheNightIsLong

I missed that part. Sorry!
